Beorn was the SINGLE deciding factor between victory or defeat in the book. Man was damn near unstoppable. He's described as smashing through the bodyguard of Bolg and pulling down the great orc himself and crushing him.

The swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt is the host Beorn in this scene. Mikael was promised to have a bigger part in the next movie as this character. And after the last Hobbit-movie was done, the people in behind the camera cut out every scene he appeared. So it was on the news in Sweden for a big huge disappointing for the director Peter Jackson and a big hug of love for Mikael Persbrandt. He deserved to be in more scenes! Peter Jackson gjorde ett stort misstag att inte ha med dig i fler scener, Mikael!
@sweetblackblood1 peter jackson did a huge mistake by not letting you in more scenes (translated as a norwegian). also can confirm, im 6'1 at age 13 and im expected to grow much taller in the later years

These bloodlines are in some ways responsible for the legends of giant viking berserkers and norther european knights and for these reasons they receive a lot of media attention. Also, pretty much every aspect of the fictional middle earth is based on something real and it is likely that Beorn and all the skinchangers were intended to recall renowned berserkers that were said to morph into bears during combat.

Born in 1960 .Read The Hobbit when I was 12 years old and the Lord of the Rings at 14 years old . Watched these films when they came out . Have no recollection of Beorn the bear . Absolutely no recollection . That is a little bit worrying .

The scene of Beorn fighting as the bear is fantastically well done, the sense of weight, of mass moving is brilliant.
The way Gandalf worryingly says "He will help us or...he will kill us." Makes me laugh every time.
Gives me chills when he jumps from the eagle's back, his ferocity is unmatched as he goes berserker mode. All hail the titan bear!

In the book, Beorn was the one who turned the tide of the battle, as he was the one to slay the orc army's real general Bolg.
Ashame the film couldnt squeeze this in...
Instead Bolg was beaten by Legolas , who was never in the book. I would of loved to see Beorn ravage the orcs and Bolg with his kin.

Gandalf would later kill a Balrog... It is hard to believe he was afraid of Beorn.
I am sure Gandalf is afraid of the Balrog, too. But his need to protect the fellowship overshadows his fear of a terrible demon.
And he died in the process too.
