- Confused around the turnaround? In this segment horseman Buck Brannaman explains the proper form and function of a cow horse turn. A typical cow horse turn is done on the outside hind leg. However, as a horse develops speed in the turn, centrifugal force will cause him to place the majority of his weight on the inside hind leg for optimal balance.
Here Buck demonstrates a few simple exercises he uses to develop balance and rhythm in the turn. He then shows how he begins to build speed in the maneuver, always in such a way that the horse understands and is motivated to do the job. Along the way, Buck discusses the posture and overall look of a traditional bridle horse in this exercise.
