Toni And the fact that they did this 30 years ago where safety wasn't as important, because we all know to drive a Group B car like that when they have 450-550whp and weigh as less as 890kg, you need serious balls and skill.
I started to get tears in my eyes watching this video. Memories from Group B day came back. I really miss these days when rally was for men, not -like now - for sissies.
Seen these beasts many times in the RAC during the 1980’s , you cannot put into words what they were like when seen and heard in the flesh. The things were alive , they almost had individual characters and they all seemed to put out different unbelievable noises . RIP group B gone but never forgotten.
Watching videos of the S1 on CZcams and my dad walks past, " yeah the S1, the sound is something you never forget ", what you saw these i replied ? He simply lifted his jacket up and all the hairs on his arm was standing on end, thats how terrifying they was lol !
nah man that the BOV(blow-off valve). when the throttle body closes from high rpm/high boost situation the pressure that builds between the turbo and throttle body to the point where it'll burst intercooler hose or even worse bend the throttle blade... and then the engine just runs away. this just release's the pressure in that situation. the audi BOV does sound like reversion(what you are reffering to) but i assure you it is a BOV. reversion is something common to here on diesel as a BOV is not necessary to prevent engine damage, and unlike gas engine diesel do not care how lean they are, rich is what kills em, opposite of gas engine.
I don't get. Do you claim that the flutter sound is BOV? Because everywhere else I've heard this sound people say it's when there's no BOV and the pressure comes back to the turbine and the turbine blades fight it. When there IS BOV, the sound is like a sneeze.
First time i saw one is still engraved in my mind ... standing beside it as it started a tarmac stage was unbelievable, it looked like it was popping a wheelie !! And scary ... it DEMANDED respect;)

This kind of excitement is lacking in today's rallying and Formula 1. More power and more speed, please FIA !!
Yes, that's true. WorldRallyCross series is very exciting and they visited Finland this summer but unfortunately I wasn't able to go and see it...
***** But the cars today are BORING....the speed isn't important here, the sounds, the cars etc. is what is important.
Toni
There should be both. Drivers as well as Factory Competition. And factory Competition should be completely deregulated and crazy.
Toni And the fact that they did this 30 years ago where safety wasn't as important, because we all know to drive a Group B car like that when they have 450-550whp and weigh as less as 890kg, you need serious balls and skill.
They made it in 2017. Maybe they read your comment
I started to get tears in my eyes watching this video. Memories from Group B day came back. I really miss these days when rally was for men, not -like now - for sissies.
The must badass rally car ever built! Period.
Fantastic era …..on the edge of your seat stuff and balls of steel 👏👏👏
STAND ASIDE! INSANE YELLOW WEDGE FROM GERMANY COMING THROUGH!!!
Audi Quattro THE LEGEND!
Seen these beasts many times in the RAC during the 1980’s , you cannot put into words what they were like when seen and heard in the flesh.
The things were alive , they almost had individual characters and they all seemed to put out different unbelievable noises .
RIP group B gone but never forgotten.
I am nearly 40 years old. This sound get never old! Audi Quattro was a insane car, in a insane time! FUCK YEAH!
Watching videos of the S1 on CZcams and my dad walks past, " yeah the S1, the sound is something you never forget ", what you saw these i replied ? He simply lifted his jacket up and all the hairs on his arm was standing on end, thats how terrifying they was lol !
This is why i love Audi Quattro. It's so fast and so beautiful. And that sound-the best turbo sound ever.
Flagged for pornographic content
:D :D :D
apedap :D :D :D
:)
Wow , 30 plus years since I seen these monsters and it still makes my hairs stand on end . They got some big balls .
When Motorsports along side the driving skills required massive titanium balls !!!
This makes me cry it’s perfection
Satan's favorite rally car
Haha I'll agree with that.
He's got a black one.
Only YHWH could have come up with this.
And god's favourite. He got his in bright red
Завидуют тем, кто смотрел это живьем на трассе, Эпическое зрелище!!!!!!
Any driver who survived Group B. You have my personal respect. Each and everyone of them.
And this is why the Quattro is the best car of all time
I love that Quattro's turbo spool noises!
Thats actually the boost blow off valve you can hear. It prevents excess boost pressure destroying the engine.
+Dellacondan in the case of what your hearing that flutter is the air bouncing off of the closed throttle and getting chopped up by the turbo
nah man that the BOV(blow-off valve). when the throttle body closes from high rpm/high boost situation the pressure that builds between the turbo and throttle body to the point where it'll burst intercooler hose or even worse bend the throttle blade... and then the engine just runs away. this just release's the pressure in that situation.
the audi BOV does sound like reversion(what you are reffering to) but i assure you it is a BOV. reversion is something common to here on diesel as a BOV is not necessary to prevent engine damage, and unlike gas engine diesel do not care how lean they are, rich is what kills em, opposite of gas engine.
+Bryen Goheen - Couldnt have said it better myself, you know your shit.
I don't get. Do you claim that the flutter sound is BOV? Because everywhere else I've heard this sound people say it's when there's no BOV and the pressure comes back to the turbine and the turbine blades fight it. When there IS BOV, the sound is like a sneeze.
After all of these years, still as glorious as ever. Thank you!
This brought tears to my eyes. Bless group b and pray it never leaves us
The MONSTER of all rally cars even to this day!! Group B still the GREATEST!!!!
simply the best car 4 every time
It just shows how much technology in cars has come on over the years ! 👍
First time I've seem this after being an Audi q s1 fan for years. Amazing.
God is driving that Audi Quattro!
No, it was Stig Blomqvist.
But you are close..
No, it was Hannu Mikkola
Jukka Prusti
Mikkola drove nr 4 Blomqvist nr 6
*****
You are right, my mistake
ShootingSam #6 was Mikkola and you can clearly see he was pushing more to the limits as should because he's the king of Rally of The Thousand Lakes.
Man I really wish I were alive when group B was alive and thriving, seeing them live must've been something else.
This baby is going so fast the camera man can't even keep up with it! LEGEND! what a thing to behold.....Awesome piece of machinery.
1980’s …. Group B…. Hannu Mikola ….. thanks for the insane memories. Only part of motorsports I cannot forget .
0:31 I just came..
1:56 min. goosebumps when it screams his way through the forrest ...
Always on the edge........amazing.
This footage is breathtaking. Absolutely amazing engineering and skilled driving.
What a car the orginal quattros (ur, s1 s2) are by far and wide one of the best cars ever built (affordable)
The feeling when standing right next to these monsters and hearing that aggressive sound must've been AMAZING!! God, if only I lived in the 80s...
First time i saw one is still engraved in my mind ... standing beside it as it started a tarmac stage was unbelievable, it looked like it was popping a wheelie !! And scary ... it DEMANDED respect;)
1:49 - Holy Moly - I remember seeing this on TV - that s when I got hooked on Rally - That Quattro was just a BEAST
This makes “Tokyo Drifters” look like little kids on a tricycle!!
The most ultimate rallycar ever made and because of the 5 cylinder engine also with the best sound by far.
you mean racecar
