- Compost readiness is almost as important as having compost. In today's video I share 3 tips for how to know when your compost is ready. This batch has been cooking since last June and I am thrilled to share the results.

Thanks so much James I'm so grateful for your support
I need to start my compost pile again, now that we don’t have our pig I have too many kitchen and garden scraps… I’m trying to decide weather I want to do what I’ve done before which was inexpensive chicken wire, which took a lot more attention lol or buy a fancy one that requires minimal attention lol… or start an in garden worm bin
Girl call the city of Glendale waste dept and have them deliver you a free bin!
@@AllPurposeMom the bin is too big, my husband would have a fit lol

Hi Jeri, I have a composter on a stand. It's an oil barrel (never used😉). I turn it every 2 days or so. Starting in our "spring" I get volunteers of various squash, peppers and tomatoes that I rescue from it to start in my garden. That being said, does that mean that in those areas of the compost...it's "ready"?
Sounds like a cool setup and I would say seedlings popping up is a good sign it's ready!
Do you have drainage holes in the bottom of your compost bin? I dont even have a bottom to mine! I figure on letting the worms do the work😂
No bottom here either
So what all do you put in. Do you put in egg shells banana peel. What about cooked foods. 👍🏾❤❤❤
I don't do much egg shells you can but they take forever to break down. We freeze any veggie scraps from prepping food. Then when I clean out the fridge I put any veggie or rice, pasta etc. No meats or dairy, but like if I got some moldy refried beans that had some butter in it I don't care I still compost that or like corn that had some butter.. then any clippings from the garden that aren't sick or have bugs. So all those are my greens and I layer them with dried leaves we collect here or from my sons landscaping biz or neighbors.
@@AllPurposeMom Egg shells are good if you have worms in your compost otherwise they take FOREVER to break down
