Hey Drew and Corey, thanks for another great story! I must admit, I had to have a little giggle at 16:50 - that 'genuine English accent' sounded kind of Australian, with a bit of South African thrown in 😁 but if it's any consolation; I was once in a musical which was set in Hollywood, and our bass player was from LA. During a break, the (English) drummer commented to him: "I bet all these American accents make you feel right at home", to which the bass player replied; "Well... not really.... some of 'em sound kinda Swedish!" 🤣 Looking forward to the next one already, and in the meantime; GFY xx

Amazing story. Wish it was more historical accurate, as far as the Indians are concerned. But yeah, pretty good.
As intriguing as this story is, I feel it makes the all too common, mostly modern, mistake (for the sake of political correctness) of pushing the historically inaccurate narrative that over-emphasizes native American pacificity and victimhood, and also over-emphasizes colonial aggression and victimizer-hood.
The Shawnee at this time and place were capable of kindness, just as the colonials were, yes. However, the Shawnee were more than capable and in fact did perpetrate extreme acts of horrific torture and crimes against humanity to a level of brutality that far outstripped what colonial sensibilities were capable of.
Not to say this is the worst instance of this phenomenon but it could be better. We would do well to write more stories that included this darker side of American Indian culture that was so common among the myriad tribes. To not do so would be misleading and disrespectful to who these people actually were and how they lived at best, and at worst a downright malicious attempt to rewrite history to suite some contemporary political narrative.
We're so keen to show the good but mostly bad aspects of colonial expansion; and well we should. Doing so allows the history to speak for itself. We ought to grant the same historical equality to American Indians. Not doing so dehumanizes them.
I agree! The whole “noble savage” bullshit has been debunked long ago. Not to mention in the past thirty years, archeologists have discovered evidence that white people came to North America first. It’s called the Solutrean theory.
