That was a good industrial engine. It had more than just an oil leak. It was taking on water and being run before it gave up. I would pay the premium to put another Kohler back in.

Kholers of 40+ years ago were great(k series). Anything newer is trash and not worth the hassle. They fail all the time and parts are 4x the cost of anything else; that's if you can find parts. A Honda GX series is the way to go or a Briggs Vanguard. They are almost always swapped out as they're not worth fixing. The Dingo, as an end of it's life machine will be outlived by that Chinese clone engine. That was the best choice in this scenario.

On that Knick on the bucket cylinder shaft, I have seen many youtubers get that JB Weld steel stuff, and apply that to the Knick, and then when its good and hard, sand it smooth. Just stops the seal getting caught on it. Its by no means the right way to do it, but to get you started and prevent you having to tear it down immediately, worth a shot.

Because you still have to cap off the end of the muffler. And by the time you finish the end of the muffler you are still going to be in the same situation? I probably would have gotten a different style of muffler? Or maybe make more modifications to the one that you have

With kohlers I always find the quick release oil drain is lose. Just today on a nearly brand new cub cadet with 42 hours on it. There was a small oil leak that trickled and collected on the double pulley (instead of making a puddle on the ground). Its now a knocking 25 hp twin.
