That's why my son helps me. He's 22 and can run all my equipment. I've been hard on him but it's paid off. Be sees how easy it is to make a dollar or more per minute! 40 yards a week after gas etc pit just over 2k in our pocket. Never worked 40 hours! I'm 52 and will work circles around today's young people. I plan on passing my knowledge and business on to my son!

I walked off a job once. having 30+ combined years as a lawn maintenance foreman, horticulture foreman and a certified lawn and tree tech for some of the biggest companies in SE Michigan.
left a job a month or 2 into the season started with this new company who put me in a truck with 2 guys that didn't have a quarter of the experience and much younger they thought I was going to be doing all the hard labor work while they sat their ass on a rider all day so after 5 jobs I said cya later bye.
now I wouldn't even take a job cutting grass unless I am the foreman. as a certified lawn and tree tech I would never make close to the money otherwise.
not to mention a certified lawn and tree tech is the foreman of all foremans in landscaping.
so a good piece of advice for all lawn care companies if you are going to hire someone to just do all the hard labor work weed-whipping, edging and blowing you need to put that in the add. because guys like me who have been doing it longer than most won't play.
As a foreman, I never once sat or stood on a rider all day because I knew it wasn't fair to my guys knowing they would burn a lot more energy and be way more tired by the end of the day than I was.
not to mention wouldn't give or show me the respect knowing I'm not working as hard as they are.
I would never work for some of these lawn care companies on youtube the fair and right way is to alternate every job.
Agreed brother. As a guy that has put in the time you earned your place in the industry. I always start them on weedeating and when they master that we move in to edging and then mowing. I’m a guy when I finish what I am doing I move to helping them complete there task.
@@PlemonsLawnCare Thank you! I appreciate that And for your employees and future employees I appreciate that you do what is fair and right and I guarantee your employees will too.
I started out at 15 the last few months in the season where I and another guy had to ride with a foreman who sat in the truck pretending to be on the phone and would tell me and the other guy what to do.
had 0 respect for the guy and didn't want to work hard for him. winter came and I worked 27 hours straight shoveling snow one day. the next day I was asked to be a Lawn maintenance foreman.
although I had no respect for that foreman he taught me a lot in that I knew if I didn't work as hard if not harder than my laborers I wouldn't get any respect and my guys wouldn't work hard for me it worked! never had a problem and for the next 15 years, I was only ever a foreman except for the one job I mentioned.
Agree 100% that kids nowadays really don't want to work and lawn maintenance is by no means the easiest job they can find.
I think if you pay someone fairly and show you will work as hard as they do you will come across some good guys. I'd suggest hiring older guys with responsibilities,
maybe even offer a monthly bonus for attendance. wouldn't have to be much but I bet it will make a difference.
I worked a whole season getting a $150.00 bonus every month for not being late or missing a day.
anyway, I respect you as a business owner and thank you for the content you share. best of luck and continued success!!
RP, Ferris still not have a mulch kit for the 32? That machine with the caster and mulch would rock on my yards I use the TM 30
Ive got one enroute as I type this brother
Good video. Lawn care employees are getting hard to find these days hopefully he works out for you. Happy memorial day and thanks for your service it's greatly appreciated.
Thank you. He is a hard worker
Now that you have some time on the fw 15 how do you like it? Can you make another video on it?
I love it and will get another out soon
Nice job! We keep going back and forth on hiring.. I can get the work it’s just the time that’s the problem. I’d like to wait till we get caught up so I can take the time to properly teach them ho how use the equipment.
Man it’s tough once you start hiring. It’s just finding that right guy
Get out of the field as soon as possible -- So you can work on your biz
Good problem to have. I am having a tough time getting enough work for just me, let alone hire someone.
Just be patient brother. I promise you keep up the quality the work will follow
@@PlemonsLawnCare I'm really struggling to grow this year. About ten new companies popped up this year!
@@PlemonsLawnCare I'm not giving up though, my standards should get me through it in time. It's just hard to be patient when I really do need more work
everybody and their uncle bob wants to jump into the lawncare. all that matters is who does quality work and stays in for the long haul through the years.
@@colestaples2010 What marketing strategies are you implementing?
Happy Memorial Day Richey, thank you for your service. Glad to see you have found some help, it is hard. Hope all works out this time around. Nice stripes!!
Thank you. I appreciate he is a good worker for sure
@@PlemonsLawnCare Very welcome and glad to hear it!
Amen! I actually left a lot of money on the table this year because I can not find anyone reliable, much less competent enough to actually get a chance at running a $7k mower. If I could find 3 solid guys who show up every day, and who are willing to work, listen, and learn I could have made 4x-5x what I have earned this season. I thought it was just me paying too little so I offered a guy who applied who had no education, no references, and no skills that I could see (Other than playing on his phone and complaining) $15/hour and a guaranteed $5/hour raise if he made it 30-days. He quit within 3 days because "the work was too hard," but I know his sister, and she told me he quit because his girlfriend got approved for a welfare check. Heck, I even posted at the local high schools looking for summer labor at $15/hour and not a single call or email resulted.
I really don't get it. Maybe I was just cut from a different type of cloth, or maybe living a good life and having nice things means more to me than it does others. I started working for my grandfather's masonry company when I was 12 during summers, weekends, and days off from school. The first paycheck I got hooked me for life. I have not gone more than 2-days (summers when I was in school) without a job ever since. Nothing has ever been given to me, and I have earned everything I have, down to each glass of water I drink. For some people, it's easier to mooch off of family, live off the government, or depend on the kindness of others to survive. For me, I have to earn it to respect and appreciate it. That's just how I am.
Thanks for the videos my friend!
Is that a Ferris or a wii walk behind?
Ferris FW15
Good stuff
Thanks brother
The ole walk off lol. Ridiculous
Looks like short weather Richey. I definitely know the struggle of finding good help. Thankfully my boys are out of school, so they are able to help me keep up with the workload. Awesome video as always brother. Keep em coming.
Thanks brother
I'm really liking that new ferris fw15...how does it work 4 ya?
Working great. I love it
That's why I quit lawn care n 2008 no 1 wanted to work or they was lazy plus too many clowns doing lawn care under bidding jobs it's a cut throat business
Thats the biggest complaint I hear from everyone about employees. Doesn't matter where you are in the world its the same problem. I have to guys who are both over 50 and they run circle around the new guy I hired this year who's 24. Great video
Great vid! Curious about the push mower.
It’s the Ferris FW15 it’s a beast of a small mower
I’m doing really really good for it to be my first year man like for real but I have done this for others for a long time and I can’t wait till I get the time and things to start a channel on here for you guys to see
Man no better time then now
Hey man I’m gonna go threw the same thing done hired one he worked one day n ain’t answered the phone yet ! I don’t get it but this is my first year mowing on my own and I’m growing like crazy and work at a factory as well I messaged you a couple of times on here and I’m afraid I’m gonna have to start turning yards away because I’m getting to big for me to take care of it all by myself ugh n I had all intentions of growing and leaving the factory for good
Just be patient brother and just take on what you can complete. Eventually you will find the right guy
Hey Richey, Hope all is Well, Great Mowing Footage & Just Out of Curiosity, What Height did you Cut that Bermuda Grass at ? Looks like 2.25 inches 🤔 or Maybe Even 2 Inches. Thanks for Sharing Brother, Take Care and Be Safe Out Their 🇺🇸
We cut it at 2 but will move higher with no rain
Hey Richey, Thanks for the Response Brother 👍🏻🇺🇸
What thoughts go through your head when mowing with your back turned along a busy street like that?
Hope they ain’t texting😂
Oh and all us Kentucky people ain’t crazy bare footed people lol 😂
😂 I know I married into alot of Kentuckians lol
he seems to run a nice edge, but why is he tickling the throttle trigger?😂 or is he tapping out the rhythm to a song?
and i kind of like that silent mowing 🤣
He still learning to run it full throttle he was a little afraid to run it wide that he may gouge into the lawn. Yea the silent mowing had music but for some reason they tried hitting me with a copyright claim so I just removed it lol
@@PlemonsLawnCare yeah, i thought it was a music glitch or something 😄
Same story for factory work. You go by and see a job is not running. They will just fn leave. Not even enough guts to come tell you they are leaving.
Does that Ferris fw15 have a bagging system?
Its not available yet but it is coming
The best workers are not able to be kept, because the best workers, like you and I, start our own businesses, because best workers cannot stand working for morons. Yes, I said it, and you all know it's true! LOL
Ok, on a more dignified note, there is a time to be an employee. The E Quadrant (from Robert Kiyosaki's book The Cashflow Quadrant), or employee quadrant, is what I call Sophomore Year in the school of hard knocks. (Growing up was Freshman Year!) The lessons you learn working for someone are very important, and you get paid to learn them.
Ever notice that some people pay to learn, and others get paid to learn? Simple services are better than Harvard for business education!
Well, if you set things up right, your best workers will work for you a few years, and then start their own business, which will be a great business friend of your business. You don't want your best workers working for you forever. And, you want the jobs you create to be able to be easily done by the mediocre/average workers, because that is mostly what is out there. And, because they need to live, eat, and learn, too.
All in all, my greatest joy is hearing my workers talk about their dreams of starting their own businesses. And, as they do, we ramp them down day by day, so they can schedule their new customers day by day. To make it easier. Also, we can "angel invest" in their new ventures.
All in all, you seem to be operating a great business. Integrity is what matters most!
Solid advice for sure and thank you.
@@PlemonsLawnCare You are most welcome. Far more to come if I can get the stuff in my head to make more sense to me so I can communicate it.
Hey man, the employee situation is getting wort.
I agree brother. Offer more money doesnt work either. Pretty much they want to be paid to stand around mostly
big tube wayland
😂👍🏻
Richey I am in the market for some Bluetooth earplugs. What king are those and rare them please thanks. Keep after it. And make that money. God country family
They are iso tune pros. I love them
Skull Candy method wireless also work well
I was about to say da same thing, why you be makin that poor young feller say he likes you while on camera!! Hope all is well bud, stripes be lookin Stupid, Dope, Fresh!! Dirty Jersey out!!!
A college student should work out better. They have goals, and should have a little respect . Who knows this day, and time🤔 If not, try to find a horticulture student that’s planning on doing this type of work. Good luck✌️
Man they do work hard just sucks they have to go back to school lol
That’s the only bad thing. I know we all want that full timer that will stay with us. Good luck✌️
