Use macros to increase your chances to succeed in using those hidden moves. For you to use a combination attack, you need to use the right moves, with no interruption from any teammate not any enemy, and sometimes there is also an imposed order. With a macro you are sure to avoid interruptions from teammates and you are sure to do the moves in the right order. And if not everybody in the combination attack is fast enough, be sure to have a slow teammate act before, this way you have chances all players of the combo delaying to act the moment after him/her. Also, if order is not imposed, put the slower character first.
I give for each combo an example of macro to use it, the move you can use to trigger it and in which order if it is imposed.

@@JoeyLamontagne for the Destruction combo? I think the idea is that the rest of the attack is so powerful that she has to shield the party from its effects.

I always loved seeing a new combo when I played the game for the first times. I really wish they'd make upgraded versions of the Triblaster with the Gi and Na techniques. A possibility to save the combos somehow would also have been nice as well, but as they are I think they are cool and without them Chrono Trigger wouldn't have been as great as it is.
Conduct Thunder is probably my favorite animation.
Anyone else feel bad for Gryz(Pike) having 0 combo potential with the other members of the party?
Chelsea Valkenburger Gryz is my favorite character but sadly, no combos... His tech is basically a weak kill-all that usually doesn't work. But Crash on the other hand is quite useful. Also I love axes and his innate resistance to fire (he's a Motavian after all!)
Does he have fire resist? I always thought it was due to the ceramic helm he still wears during the Zio fight.
Pretty cool if they did have elemental innates though.
I'm not sure to be honest. He seems to be weak to water/ice based attacks and resistant to fire. Also I think Raja had resistance to ice/water and weakness to fire since he's a Dezolisian. I'm gonna test it now actually and report back with the results!
Just remember that Raja has a much higher magic defense overall like Rune due to his MTL stats.
Yes, of course. Although i plan on just doing a world-tour to find enemies that do fire and water based attacks, and just write down the numbers. Also I'll be sure not to equip any gear that has resistance to fire/water/techs in general. I think an FAQ on gamefaqs mentiones something like that as well, about innate resistances. I'll check that out as well.
I personally didn't use them much. I didn't even check the tips online on how to combo them.
But I gotta say it was one of the most satisfying games I ever completed legitimately without cheats, plus it was all on emulated Genesis!
Okay, I admit it, I was tired of the enemy spawn frequency in the final dungeons before Dark Force so I used the open-close menu trick a lot.
It's tragic the true PS games finished at just the 4th one.
In the same vein as BOF VI went to crap, or at least from what I heard.

I remember playing it for the first time, to find out one. And there was no internet then. I wanted to recreat it, but couldn't. And of course I found more through trial and error.
I completed this game 5 times, but did not know that there are so many combinations of joint attacks! You so cool! Like!
I remember back in the day you had to get the strategy guide (before online) and I'd only mastered 7 of the 15 combos. I always wanted to see the others, but at least you gave a few more.

@@kkbaby30 there was a 15th one, but it was scrapped. Apparently it was going to use a technique called "Feeve", which was also scrapped.
i literally just beat PS IV on my Switch an hour ago. i was curious about combo attacks, so i came across your video.
fantastic job! i only discovered GRANDCROSS in the whole playthrough, and it was completely by accident at the end of the game. LETHALIMG is probably my favorite combo you showed in the vid. i would've never discovered that in a million years.

I "accidentally" used Triblaster a few times just because I would commonly use different spells to change things up. I had heard rumors about combos but had not seen them or knew how they were set up yet.

Destruct is essentially useless but most of the others are at least fun. Had my son playing this gem last week and I had him set Rune to Tandle and Wren to Hijammer. Managed to organically combo on that one and end the 3xDominator battle early.

Destruct really needed something special to justify its existence, Given that it's the only 4 person combo attack, AND needs a secret spell to pull off. Should have been the only attack that breaks the damage cap, since the main team doing all their best attacks out damage Destruct because of the cap.

You can skip Megid and Posibolt.
Heh, I suppose that's true. Posibolt doesn't get nearly as a dramatic buildup as Megid does though.
@@Ironman1o1 all we hear about Posibolt is that it's supposed to be used for attacking space stations and that a 10 second burst can completely annihilate Zelan. Other than that, and the fact that it's one of Wren's best attacking moves, there's no incentive to get it.
It's kind of annoying Chrono Trigger gets attributed to combination moves, when this game did it 2 years earlier.

Some combos are only good near the end when you can change the 5th member unless you farm with them a ton. Destruct i only discovered by accident about a couple of years ago. Holocaust, conduct thunder, black hole...i never knew about

Hey Rune and Hahn, these two giant robotic centaurs look pretty strong. I know, let's unleash a Holocaust on them
It's too bad most of these combos are useless as they are both too specific on what skills you need to use and that they have to be setup up in a macro before a battle starts. There's also the issue that an enemy can interrupt the macro and the characters can do better damage by themselves added up instead of combining abilities. There's also the issue that some of these combos are more useful during random encounters but they use skills that are useful during boss fights (e.g. Purify Evil using a charge of Efess) The only macros that are really useful are Grand Cross which is used in almost every Dark Force fight due to Crosscut being Chaz's staple damage skill for the entire game and Efess being super effective against Dark Force, and Circuit Break is useful enough as it can instantly end the "boss" battle in Vahal Fort. Triblaster is useful but it runs out of its usefulness by the end of Bio-plant and can't even be used after Zio's fort. A Fire Storm/Blizzard with Kyra and Rune allows you to squeeze a little extra damage during Dark Force 2, but isn't useful anywhere after that. Deadly Image is also useful as it allows you to freely skip one battle in Zio's fort using skills that aren't useful during boss fights, but then Alys dies and she's the only one that learns Death so its usefulness and ability to be used is short lived. In fact, that's ANOTHER ISSUE that combos have in this game. Some combos would be useful if the party members that you can combo with actually stick around to use it in areas where it would be useful. Hahn leaves after Zio's fort locking you out of Triblaster, Raja leaves before the Air Castle and Garuberk Tower and is only in your party during a mech dungeon so both Holyword and Purify Evil don't get any use in the time that he's in your party, and Kyra, well I guess Black Hole would be useful if she didn't need her MP to heal your party during the Air Castle and the Garuberk tower. Honestly, it feels like the combo system was thrown in as an afterthought rather than being a fleshed out mechanic, but the animations are cool at least.

I got quite a bit of use out of the automation that the macros offered. I remember that these made the game very simple to complete!
One major point is that the interruption problem is easily solved by the order of the macro. The order of battle participants acting in a turn is determined by their agility; if you have a macro set up, your party will have a specific order to play, but the _monsters_ will be inserted into that according to their agility scores. To ensure that your combos don't get interrupted, just make sure you put the character with the lowest agility first in the combo sequence, which will delay the actual combo until after the faster monsters have attacked.

Thanks for showing these, as I've only seen half myself, and I just beat the game last month. The video could have been shorter by just showing the macro in battle instead of showing each macro being created in the menu, along with cutting out the rest of the battle (healing with items and defending). Definitely the best game of the first 4!

@@breadystonks1286 Anyways u shouldnt go for lvl 99 all,. get lvl 98 instead.
in lvl 99 there is a bug that u will lose some tech and skills from that character, if u get 2 99s or more even other characters might be affected.
I heard that there is a fix for this bug, but dont know too much about this.
Anyways, not a difference from 98 to 99.
And for the 5th character i found that Raja its the best one: With ST Fire u ensure 320 or more damage per round, and u can heal all your characters with Miracle, not like Rika with Nasar that cant heal Wren and Demi.
Rune's and Raja's defense can be increased significantly by equipping shields to both hands. They don't need to use basic weapon attacks anyway.
I always preferred to do my end game leveling at the Vahal fort personally
@fireklay607 I believe the Wii Virtual Console release came with a patch that fixed it at least.
Applying it manually is doable.
Do you know how Circuit Breaker is cast? I only did it once before and 1 shot these 3 boss mechs
You can use a macro like the one I set at 4'15.
Request Rune using Tandle and Wren using Hijammer next. Request anything else to the three other teammates but do not insert any one between Rune and Wren because if you do the combo will never be triggered. Setting Wren acting before Rune also weakens the chances to trigger the combo because Wren is usually quicker than Rune, and setting him acting second will enforce him to delay its move rigtht after Rune's move, avoiding than any monster acts between Rune and Wren.

It's a very rare drop from "tech user" enemies you can find in the desert around Zio's fort and inside Zio's fort.

You get one free wood cane when you recruit Rune for the first time because he has one equipped. The rest are rare drops from tech users

where i can find wood cane?
Rune is wearing one first time he joins the team. You need to remove it before he leaves team because when he joins again he has a totally new equipment.
Some monsters can drop it but it is very rare. This monster is named "tech user". You can find him in the desert around Kadary, or in Zio's Fort.

Audio Fella the wood cane can heal u or an ally. It's really important for you to get it from rune before he leaves.

Destruction is pretty useless because u waste 4 characters to use it. Most damage on Bosses is done by, Crosscut + Double Slash (Use silver tusk) + Efess + Posibolt + (5th character, Raja is by far the best so St.Fire)

Just look my levels: 35, 38, 33, 33, 32 and I was very low on TPs with Rika at end of fight (so healing was about to start being a problem). Also check the description of video I give some hints for each boss (such as fire vulnerability of this one).
One of my favourite games ever. The series outdid itself with PS4,a shame they never created another in this style.
