Old School Bowling - AMF 82-30 Pinspotters & Above ground ball returns!

- Bowling with my friend at my family's Bowling Center after close using a variety of house balls, just killing some time and having fun... Can't spend 60 hours a week here without having a little fun sometimes! We have AMF 82/30 Pinspotters, above ground ball returns, and AMF "Magic Triangles".
One thing I always found interesting about that particular model of pin spotter was how you could sometimes catch a glimpse of pins being dropped into the rack when the table descended over any remaining pins from the first ball.

That's the reason why AMF82-30 is my favourite.
Nice. A house were pindication still works. I love those masking units. Class
Sal Testa 70’s classics!

Omg I am in LOVE with this old place!
I don't know why, but old bowling alleys will always hold a special place in my heart.
Thank you for this post. To tell you the truth, today's bowling alleys give me a headache. It seems to me that all consternation is lost to the flamboyant colors to attract a new generation of bowlers. Again , thanks for this post and be safe.

J Polar Bring back the AMF magic triangle and Brunswick Gold Crown masking units I say.
Alway loved AMF's masking units. BTW if you walked out on the ball return platform at my local center that would get you ejected from the lanes.
It would be here too! Owning the place has its perks :)
Remember the old Brunswick setup with the pin indicator on the ball return? Those lights never worked though.
Always liked the buck-tooth grin of the 82-30's. I was trying to determine which chassis they were by the strike cycle behavior but unfortunately the one strike I saw didn't have a full set ready... Real good machines as long as they get the necessary TLC.
Neat video, I love the above ground ball returns !!!!!
I used to bowl at a center very similar to this (in terms that it had an above ground ball return... everything else about the old place was Brunswick). I returned home to visit some friends and thought I would visit the old bowling alley... just to find out that it was destroyed in a fire, a few years previous. Now, the place is just an empty lot. Broke my heart.
Lockport?
@@industriastroll3177 The old place was Courtland Lanes in Hart, Michigan. It was a little 6-lane place. Miss that bowling alley!
Cool! First time I've ever seen AMF Pinspotter units whatsoever with above alley track returns... Most of them have been of the Subway type... Plenty of above returns I've seen with the Brunswicks, though...
Thanks Chris the reason I hold this model with high regard is bcuz it's the one I grew up with
Obviously, the masking units are not as "vintage" as the 82/30's. There was a center in Valley Stream, NY called "Valley Stream Recreation" which closed in the early 90's.. The equipment was vintage AMF 1950's in PRISTINE condition. The only place I ever Bowled with above ground returns. The owner would scream at you if you dared drop something on the floor or put your foot where it didn't belong.
I think the Sparemakers are actually still functional here, its just that the graphic over the triangle is covering the lights for the arrows.
Very nice old school bowling alley. One of our local alleys was a 40 lane house with wooden lanes and 82-30 pinsetters. It closed and was torn down. The other alleys are both Brunswick A2 houses. The engineering that went into developing both machines is just mind-boggling. There were no computer controls back then, just electro-mechanical controls.
Check out Oldbowling.com for interesting info on Automatic pinsetter development!
Hii! May anyone please tell me what happens when there’s a out of range on the 82-30s? As the pin cups are slanted I suppose it’ll knock the pin down?
Loves the old 82/30s with these masking units. Triangle ball count circle pin counts.
Those masking units are from the 70s.
I want to come see these. These are the pinsetters, complete with the visible cable that dropped down too, used at my home bowling alley in Owensville, Missouri. After sitting vacant for a number of years after the center moved to a different location in town, the building was torn down a month ago. I swear I was going urban exploring if they had not torn it down. I could have gotten away with it because of my age. ha
0:13 that pin light is not in modern bowling now!
@Swelly Man AMF Magic Triangle
Love the idea of the above ground ball return where is this center located and do u know if AMF still makes wide use of this pinsetter model?
Middleburg Heights, Ohio. The 82/30 pinspotter is from the 1950s, these were actually put in this center in 1953. You can still find parts for them, but it's getting harder and harder. These were built to last (they are going on 60+ years old!) and with proper care and maintenance they can run another 50+ I'm sure. I too love the above ground ball returns, don't see them much anymore but I think it's cool.
IAM in Ohio but on Eastside we had similar machine s at shoregate lanes boy miss those old alleys
That's the pindicator, right? The magic triangle that shows lights for the remaining pins in a frame? Love it!!
Yep - long before the pins showed on the automatic scoring!
I've seen the old 82/30 spotters when I went to bowl in a county tournament in NJ at the old Parkway Lanes, built in '59. The ball return is underground, but the spotters are definitely the 82/30.
+ChaosGXProductions They may be a bit slow, but I'll take them over the Brunswick ones any day of the week.
That's always been one of the things that bugged me about the 82-70 spotters. The rake movement isn't nearly as smooth as the old 82-30's. Watching the 30's run at my local alley when they were open was a thing of beauty. Such smooth operation.
I went bowling at a closeby 82-70 house after the 30 house closed. Talk about bad maintenance. Rakes bob when raising (as does nearly every 82-70 video I've seen on CZcams), the tables squeaked when moving, and one lane had rake coast so bad the return stroke would raise the rake almost halfway up to the mask and slam back down. And then there was the table knocking pins over. Although, watching the Boss animations were fun vs. the plain jane Accuscore that was on the 82-30 units.
Please keep these golden oldies running.
82-30s run great if they are taken care of. A good running 30 is so cool to watch, everything working in sync. Sweeps can be a pain sometimes because of people not paying attention and hitting them *ugh*. I plan on keeping mine for a long long time. No reason to fix what's not broken :) - I agree that the BOSS animations are fun. We are using Boss scoring and just converted to flat screens this month so they look even cooler. The animations are great on that system, some of them are very funny - especially the gutter ball or split ones..
I live in satelite city in mexico and there's a local bowling center that opened in 61, it has beautiful 82 30s and the other day i went to a bowling center in DF that had 82 70s and they sucked, as you said, bad maintanance, jamming parts, etc, and even though 82 30s are now primitive they still outshine the 8270s in many ways GO RETRO!
Chris Weber cranking the table and putting the sweep back on the rails is a gold plated pain in the ass, but other than that, I always preferred the 82-30's.
@@bluemonkey519 a good source of spare parts for these machines is when a bowling alley closes or replaces its machines with new ones.
Thanks for the posting. Where is this center located?
Where is this located? Do you still have the old amf scoring projector tables?
I would like to see the Brunswick A2 machines with the AMF Magic Triangles.
did these ever have a sparemaker on the pindicator lights?
Try waiting for the rake to retract before you throw the ball down.
2:12 cheater😂😂😂😂
2:42 Ball: Get out of the way Sweep !
pause at 1:49 lol you can see the lane's rake just sitting in the corner :)
2:04 dude? You would get kicked out of my bowling alley for shit like that.
Re-spot cells in these machines took some looking after.
Your'e telling me, as a kid at my local centre they used to give me free games for helping the tech straighten up the 'boomerangs' on the things !
Synthetic lanes? That's a shame. Surprising to see the Spare-Maker system still works! Much better than the later on-screen inception.
What scoring system is that?
Whats going on in lane 16? One bowler seems totally unable to get the ball from one end to the other without addressing the gutter first...
Debbiebabe69 he's an idiot who'd rather have a big hook than actually knock down pins.
Anyway you can show a video of you bowling and cartoons?
Do you guys own the alley? How are you allowed to walk up the lane?
Yes we do, if a customer did that, they would be out the door :)
Wow it is so cool that you preserved the old bowling experience! Do the 8230s break often?
CyberBlastStudios
Bowling how it is meant to be! They run really good with minimal issues. When we took over the center last Spring (the center was closed 3 years) there were 6 machines or so not working, but we have them all working great now :) Coming from a Brunswick house, I'd say we have a lot less calls here than over there.
Wow! That's great? What scorers? I hope I'm not asking too many questions I'm just curious because I saw the back of a 52 lane a2 house!
I'm sure the gs or 90xli would break much morw
5:30 Cheater 😂😂😂😂
That old polecat 🤣🤣
There playing Three days grace
Never too Late
Brunswick forever!
2:06 CHEATER!
They ruined the classic blue AMF triangle pin indicator with that cheesy pin splash graphic.
Why are you cheating? That's not fair!
you can get hurt
Love the bowling manufacturer self identifying machines and masking units! All bowling alleys now are stale and boring! All look alike! NONE NICE, no matter the technology!
If they serve Leagues, I’ll be fine with those type of Bowling Alleys.
Try waiting for the rake to retract before you throw the ball down.
