    Id imagine with the cut at 1:20 even if it is a weaker cut it is still a cut to the face which would probably be very disorientating as you suddenly have a lot of pain in your face and blood getting in your eyes and stuff like that. Probably going to throw your opponent off enough that is is easy to finish them after.

      bob drenan In the aggression of the fight it isn’t the pain of the cut that would be disorienting- in my experience the greatest disorientation is always blindness.

    Cool plays as always. Always learn something new from your videos.
    Do you know very much about Montante or Spadone? I’ve been practicing on my own but don’t have any real place to study. Any advice is always appreciated.

    Love this - Can you guys please please please do a video on the "Flail" ive seen illustrations from manuals/treatise (the two handed kind not the 1 handed type) but there are hardly any Hema videos out there on this weapon.
    Thanks!

      Cellar Door glad you enjoyed it!
      As for the two handed flail, as far as we know there is only one or two sources that do talk about it, and what they actually say isn't very....informative. We may do something about it in the future though!

      i think working through the rules of montante using a three ball flail would count.

      rahadian panji oki Seems logical. However the dynamics of a weighted chain certainly differs from that of the blade.

      @arpioisme Před 6 lety +3

      Gray Blackhelm indeed it will be. however some iberian source tell us that mangual (flail) movements are no different from montante. and are interchangeable sans the thrusts of course

    This is a great thing you have going here. You describe what your doing better than most others. My friends and i are starting a sparring group aspiring to hema but a little looser ane more free for alls for 5 to 6 people at a time instead of just duelling. Is it possible you could do something on fighting groups insteaf of just one on one?

      Where do you practice? I’m looking for a group in South Dakota, United States.

    interesting... that sidesword technique you take more from manciolino right? because dall'agocchie would simply imbroccate his way from guardia di testa

      We get this more from Marozzo. It's a technique that Ilkka Hartikainen showed us, and we enjoy it quite a bit :)

    Would love to see some mixed weapon sparring (sidesword vs longsword, dagger vs rapier etc)

      We did do one on Messer vs Longsword, but we'll try and get some more soon :) Thanks for the suggesting

    2:46 he plants his toes in the middle of his step while contacting her blade. Is this intentional/purposeful?

    • @thefracturedbutwhole5475
      @thefracturedbutwhole5475 Před 4 lety

      He is throwing 2 strikes so 2 steps make sense, it seems like fully committing with a single step for both strikes could be dangerous if something goes wrong with the first strike, but I could be wrong.

    Sorry maybe this question is quiet silly but I pretty like the long sword technique but after I tried several times I feel more comfortable to turn the pommel into the right, not left, is it okay? Or is there any reason why?

    • @grayblackhelm6468
      @grayblackhelm6468 Před 6 lety

      Sebastian Upirlichy For context- are you turning the long edge out or in?

    • @sebastianupirlichy2890
      @sebastianupirlichy2890 Před 6 lety

      Gray Blackhelm I am also using false edge to cut

    • @grayblackhelm6468
      @grayblackhelm6468 Před 6 lety

      Sebastian Upirlichy Having watched it several times- it doesn’t appear to be a problem. As far as I’m concerned, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
      Cutting with the false edge may bring you some trouble, however. I’m not very familiar with this technique, so I’m not sure of any good advice I could give other than “practice”.

      Gray Blackhelm thank you for your answer, I will try it and maybe I can figure it out

    • @HEMASimian
      @HEMASimian Před 6 lety

      You could do this on both sides, but we'd be curious to hear how you turn the pommel to the right, yet stil slash from the left.
