Someone at 7/11 corporate that remotely monitors the tanks noticed something was wrong and called the police. The motorcycle cop caught up to the car they took off in. so many people wondering how they found out they were stealing gas.
1) the perps drove off in the car on the left as the cops arrived, the car was blocking the view from the one side. So that is why the driver wasn't there.
2) There is a siphon device that is sucking the gas out
3) The store employee saw a large amount of gas being drawn from the tank without being charged.
4) with these facts the cops could search that truck for probable cause.
Where did you get this info from? As I am having a hard time figuring out how they could be siphoning fuel, through the pump.
With that large hose in the bed, they could use that to drop down into the main tank access point, then siphon out the fuel.
This was a big problem, back in the 70's, during the dreaded fuel crisis and rationing. Back then, you even had organized crime using actual fuel tankers, who'd pull into a gas station, like they were making a delivery, but were actually siphoning out thousands of gallons of fuel, in about 20 minutes or so.
Regardless i think charges should be dropped because the cops search their vehicle which im opinion could be seem as potential theft and breaking and entering

I think you should post a credit card and allow everyone to charge 15 gallons in your name.😉

That's true...its been done a lot.i believe they have locks and alarms now
I remember going to Huntington Beach years ago and we parked in the underground parking garage. Pretty much so. Even if they wanted to get it back, the impound fees would be greater than what the truck is worth. But maybe that’s why they had an older truck but wasn’t really that valuable.
What I wanna know is how they were intending to siphon it from the underground tank which is what the description shows, the pump on the tank in the bed only pushes fuel out it doesn’t suck it up more than one or 2 feet not the 10 or 15 feet you would need it to siphon from underground.
With such a device and tactic, there must be a bigger ring afoot. My guess is this is happening in several places. If the women confessed with an initial questioning, they are not pros. I'm guessing at least 2 tiers above them.
