Chopin on the Kawai is magical, Gadjiev explained why he picked it on tonebase. I imagine we will see more contestants opt for this wonderful instrument in future competitions. Alexander is fascinating as a musician, as a person, as a philosopher if you like...What a beautiful experience this is!

Wow...I'm definitely impressed with his Barcarolle performance!!! Beautiful touch and articulation with those really long fingers he has!! He nailed that double trill both times too, flawlessly. I mean you literally could not do it any better. He's incredibly good at shifting through all those different harmonies Chopin embeds in this piece!!! So much modulation from major to minor in this piece and it just pulls at your heart strings and he plays it beautifully!!!!! Chopin would be proud I am sure of it ♡!!!

Thank you for this comment. I loved his performance in all stages. And when he won 2nd prize people made him not worthy of it because of his technique. I don’t care about. He touched my soul like no other participant did. Nothing else matters.

I have NEVER heard anyone made as much mistake as he did and gotten to the top 2 spots.
He’s a great musician. But so are Sorito, Aimi, Nehring, and about a 1/2 dozen other pianists.
But they didn’t get nearly as far as he did.
I’ll like to see the scores.

Complete pianist. Totally developed technique and interpretation. I like the subtle--very subtle--dynamics. Initially one might think the dynamics "lacking," insufficiently varied. But on a careful listening you realize it's just fantastically nuanced. Perhaps that's why he chose to play on the Kawai, which is known for the precision of its touch.

Comment from my piano teacher who studied in Ukraine:
    (before the 2nd round started)
    (google translated)
The exquisite music is well balanced, and piano is especially clear, but it is a weightless method of weight play, the sound is slender but there is resonance, it is very interesting, I don’t know how far he can go

I keep coming back ! 2nd Barcarolle outclasses many of this year's pianists. What he knows and believes about Chopin is revelatory .Just when I decided only Schumann and Brahms from 19th century would continue to take my timeGadjiev makes his music say so much . Genius.I can't believe Liu won.I must hear him ! I can't believe this Gadjiev!!! Garcia was good, enjoyable but not complete. Gadjiev 's Barcarolle here is exquisite !The big Polonaise which I had grown tired of over the decades now seems purposeful and really speaks to me now . As interesting as Rubinstein,Zimmerman to me (obviously I don't know the finer longline details or have the perspective but his sound, tone weaving of voice lines, voicing and the gradations between his piano and pianisso and he does indeed have a true forte -the man is stupendous ! Armellini has disappeared for me now .His textures his ideas in phrasing so alive without (what I thought was correct and typical of the romantic era's blight and Industrial age burgeoning ) theneurosis normally portrayed in Chopin not sensed by me in Armellini or Gadjiev but he gets it right where she seemed to rosy, suave and smooth -lined .
