    My John Lewis Washer Dryer did this, I'm currently getting it sorted out.

    Hi Ben, I’ve seen a few like this recently, all on high power convector heaters. I recently bought a 3KW convector myself, i noticed that on the box it warned that it should not be used for extended periods on high power. I tried it on full power and within 10mins i could feel the molded plug warming 😳! There are a lot of these out there, worth giving folks a heads up, they’re a death trap of left on over night etc. The sale of these appliances seems odd and outright wrong that the only warning was on the packaging, nothing on the appliance itself!!

    that is a very strange fault, granted the live pin does tend to get slightly hotter than the neutral pin, but the heat build up normally is normally contiguous from the plug pin to the wire, this looks like as if it has been used in reverse. with power going out of the pins, and not in to them.
    looking at the plus, that isn't a 13A plug, the cable is the wrong size, nor does the plug housing look to be to UK standards, the plug walls look very thin. this looks to be at best 5A rated, and what new UK / EU appliances come new with a wired plug? aren't they all moulded plug these days? this looks like it is from a cheap non EU/UK product.

    Getting quite a lot of these atm with heaters. Think the issue is ventilation for COVID reasons so in winter months room gets cold with windows open. Customer pops heaters on and they never get a chance to hit the thermostat level, so just keeps churning away.

    Surprised the fuse didn’t blow! Was the fuse legitimate e.g. BS1361?

      Yes was definitely a good fuse. I was surprised too! Good thing I caught it!

    The plug is also not wired in the correct manor. The neutral line is too long.

      @caterhampattesting  Před rokem

      whilst it is slightly longer than it could be I wouldn't fail or see the need to alter it on this occasion. Importantly it is still shorter than the earth core.

      @alunroberts1439 Před rokem

      @@caterhampattesting the earth should be longest. As if cord is pulled the live comes out then the neutral comes and the earth last. That is how it should be.

      @@alunroberts1439 Yes, that is what I said above? The neutral is shorter than the earth so all good.
