- Viva la Barbie cats! or should I say Cat Barbie’s? I LOVE these dolls and they’re even more beautiful in person… the two gorgeous dolls definitely became instant favorites for me… maybe someday I’ll complete my collection but if not I’m very happy with the two I managed to find already!

They're very interesting! The black panther one has an Eartha Kitt feel to her. I feel like if Mattel used all the new body types with made to move articulation they would do so well...
To be Eartha Kitt she'll need an eye goggle. However, Halle Berry's Catwoman solo movie is more like this one. I have 1997's Batman and Poison Ivy 12 inch doll two pack and 2017's Batgirl and a bought separate Batgirl cycle from the DC Superherogirls exaggerated more cartoonish dolls. I would like the Black one and her lip chair for my small mini 12 inch dolls Batman collection. The other one could be 1960s Batman related but not as a Catwoman but the Russian villain themed type doll if added to my Batman collection.

I always thought the actual Catwoman doll from 2004 and this line were sister sets lol, they belong together ❤ I remember my mom buying the Halle Barry Catwoman, she was so premium too for playline.

As an archivist rubber bands are my ultimate enemy lol. I wonder if part of the inspiration for these dolls were the costumes used in Cats? I'm not super into musical theatre, but the bodysuits and the hair of the tiger doll reminded me of the costumes of the 80s productions immediately. The show ran for a long time on Broadway and in London, so it probably could've been an influence even into the early 2000s.
Hi, yes, they were based on the musical Cats. I have all three. The third one looks Hiapanic. She is leopard print on a tiger print seat that has pink fur on top. Beautiful dolls.
The lip couch is so cool ! And nice quality for Mattel. Yes, i could make my own easy, but...its nice to just have one that goes with the theme of a doll.
From what i remember, they were $50 each online from the Mattel site when they came out. I had the Panther and she was the most I'd spent on a doll at the time.
I don't remember what the actual MSRP was for these back in the day, but I do recall thinking they were overpriced (definitely over $50, probably closer to $80), which is why I never ended up buying them, despite having an extensive collection of Catwoman dolls and figurines. As far as the cracking pleather goes it wasn't much of a topic of conversation back then, at least from what I encountered, since in the 90s and early 2000s NRFB was still the standard for most collectors, so most people never handled their dolls out of box enough to see the damage if there was any. This also accounts for these dolls being sewn into their outfits--at the time Mattel designers pretty much assumed people would leave their dolls in-box, so there was no need for their clothing to be removable. I know this sounds insane now, but the early days of the Barbie Collector label were a weird time 😅 The whole reason why the Silkstone/BFMC line was launched was because there was a swing in the opposite direction from adult collectors clamoring for dolls they could actually PLAY with.
If you want to see some great examples of pre-Rainbow High fabric shoes I'd encourage you to seek out the 12" Lollipop Girls dolls that were released around 2003. They had amazing clothing and shoes (the boots in particular) that fortuitously fit Pullips, so they were a welcome addition to my collection at the time.

I LOVE my Bratz swing chair.
The vinyl-coated fabrics of the past must have been of a more durable quality, because I have a swimsuit from Malibu Sun Gold Skipper from 1983, and it has a shiny vinyl checkerboard pattern, which has not peeled or cracked at all in 40 years. And when I investigated the original suits on the other dolls in that line, it does not seem to be a problem that they have. Even after all those decades. Things that make you go hmmm.......
My Barbie winter vacation fashion pack from the 60’s is also not cracking at all and I believe the cost is made out of a vinyl coated material as well… interesting! I wonder why they changed it (it’s just a cost cutting thing I’m sure lol)

I remember these dolls! I was around 10 when they were released.😍 I remember seeing them in the barbie collector catalog. I wanted to one in the black suit so bad but 10 year olds be broke broke😂

They were based on the play "Cats". I have all three. Wish I kept the boxes. The third doll is a lepord print she looks Hispanic. She came with a Tiger print seat with pink fur. I don't have any granddaughter t give them to. 😮💨

I bough the black and leopard versions when they first came out. Like you I had to have them because they were cats. The heel on my black cat has the same bend. I guess it's the way they were packaged. I have yet to totally unbox them but you have inspired me somewhat😊 and it is unfortunate that the pleather will deteriorate over time. And the more humid it is the quicker it will happen. It's more of a matter when than if.

I've wanted these for ever always. But I'm not able to afford them. Not even for $50 now. I'm going threw treatment so the last doll I was able to by was Victoria from rainbow high. But they are amazing.

I’ve seen some people use mod podge to seal in the pleather material and stop it cracking further. I haven’t tried it myself yet and I don’t know how it would age but maybe it’s worth trying for such a beautiful garment! Have you had any experience with it?

Hi honey, do you know of a way to make wings for the Mattel Winx dolls? The wings on these dolls are hooked on with a magnet, I hope you know a way to make wings for them, because they are my favorite dolls and some of them are incomplete without their wings :(

Is that a permanent solution? I find that mod podge for other projects doesn’t have the finish I’d want for doll clothes
@@xCanadensis I have used it and it does make the cloths shiny, but the alternative is all of the pleather flaking off and getting everywhere. Ultimately it's up to you 🤷♀️😉 but I would before the outfits completely desentagrated. As to permanent? Who knows what the future holds 😆 I have also seen Thousand Splendid Dolls repainting that type of clothing with fabric paint...so??
There is a matte mod podge. I wonder if that would work? Or if they're chemically similar enough that you could mix a bit of the regular with the matte to get the right finish? 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️

To get these dolls to Norway do I have to pay ebay price, plus around $40 shipping, and 25% import tax. $35 for these are insane to me.

I only have the Batman and Robin 1997 movie 2-pack dolls of Poison Ivy v Batman. I wouldn't mind to have that "Black Cat" one (more for solo movie Halle Berry). Those chairs look great for a Catwoman lair diaramas scene I envy a little. The tiger pale one is less Batman themed and less interesting to me. So far Batman hasn't made dolls of more characters. The Superherogirls dolls did make a Bat girl and separate a Bat girl cycle I bought totalling about $38 USD in 2017 to expand Batman and Poison Ivy but because DC Batman is more 12 inch action dolls and up to 7 inch action figures savvy there is no real Batman collection except showcasing the "Halle Berry Catwoman" for your Black doll, Poison Ivy and a Superherogirls exaggerated Bat Girl and Bat Girl Cycle more of a female DC Batman very mini set in characters (almost putting Batman out of place).

Wow, what a great find! Honestly, I would open her! There's nothing wrong with admiring the doll in box, it's just that after a while, the doll will start to degrade and "eat itself" sitting in the box(rubber bands dry rotting/melting, pieces getting loose etc.). But I hope that you enjoy your doll either way! ✨💖✨
Take it from someone who's been in this hobby a long time--go ahead and free her! You'll enjoy her more and honestly it will be easier to maintain her condition out of the box.

i never knew thats why the pleather broke, i have one doll with a pleather rainjacket and its fallen off in so many places 😭 now i think i could iust get some red paint and sealant?? maybe??
People have used acrylic paint since that’s basically a layer of plastic … I think leather paint works? I’ve never tried because I just try my best to avoid the issue 😭
