Well you had to deliver the apples to the basket person before timeout to get participation in the event. Also you have to select stats for gear from boxes in your equipement menu. Welcome in GW2 hope you like it!
I also play an elementalist and love the staff. It will be even better, bigger and more powerful in terms of skills. Especially in the elite specialization weaver.)) The main thing is to get used to the combat and the constant change of elements during it. Have you taken piano lessons? Then they will be useful to you.))) @@tarcaneum In general, enjoy the game slowly.)) Exploration of the world in GW2 is done very well: the game literally rewards you for it. Actually, this is how I leveled up to the maximum level: I traveled around the world, participated in events, killed world bosses, and somehow quietly reached the maximum level without even going through story missions. Moreover, I recently came across jumping puzzles (they are hidden in almost every location), then hidden events for which you need to fulfill some condition to start... In short, in GW2 the game starts from the beginning of the game, and not from lvl cap.))) Enjoy.))

1:00:23 you can play GW in 1st person view; but you only moved your camera a bit weird. press F11 and change your camera views. you will get a target pointer too.
