  • Hi, It’s Ben.
Very proud to introduce our new tutorial: the dos rapporté binding.
If you have been following us for a longer period of time, you will be familiar with the tue-mouche binding, which we published two years ago.
The dos rapporté binding is essentially the hardcover version of the tue-mouche binging.
If you open them, you will see that both bindings share the same spine shape and the same great opening qualities.
Dos rapporté is French for spine made of the book and attached to the book at a later stage.
The spine is the foundation of the structure.
There are different ways that the binding could be made, but it always has this spine shape.
For this particular tutorial we went for signatures sewn on tapes, tapes laced into boards, and spine on top.
The tutorial is a 52-paged booklet, with step by step instructions. In three languages: English, French and Spanish.
I think the level is challenging, but you will learn a lot.
I think it will appeal to both amateur and professionals, to both beginners and more advanced people.
    Good luck!

Interesting. Reminds me of sewn board binding but with tapes.
I think I’ll look into it! Thanks for sharing!

Isn't this similar to Gary Frost's 'Sewn Board Binding'? See example at:

Dear Philip, Yes, it is indeed similar to the 'Sewn Board Binding' from Gary Frost. You can find more information and explanation about the Dos rapporté in my article, where I also mention the Sewn Board Binding, here: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0162/1942/files/Benjamin_Elbel.pdf?18321078510853524131
