What do you think of Richard's latest find?!
cant see it in 360 🤣
Being a MOPAR guy, I'd say a 'Cuda, any 'Cuda, is awesome!
Nice score!👍😎
Worth whatever you paid for it. 71's are the holy grail in Cuda's.
Badass the 340 is the coolest small block dodge/chrysler made ever
I’m from Merced, California that car was bought at my family’s lot Marasti Motors
For how much
Nice
Too cool..
Gold star for u
Is it closed now? According to records, it's no longer active, it was dissolved in the mid 90's.
Great Buy! Just for the record, a lot of us like the build process it's not boring lol
How do you know it was a "Great Buy" Brent?, smh
@@jerryb1234 it’s Richard lmao, you think he’s not gonna get a good buy
*Richard* *CRACKS ME UP* *CATER*
"Well Phipps I'm proud of you and look at ya!" LOL!!
Richard loaded the trailer himself!!! Even got on the ground to hook up the winch hook!!! Never seen that before; he always has another monkey doit for him! Nice find though; original paint so no surprises underneath...
He’s been doing that a lot lately👌🏻
That's because the millennials are completely useless👎
He’s earned the right not to
He did it on F&L often.
I love the color. If I owned it I would leave the whole car the way it is and just drive it as is . 50 years old and has character.
Hell yeah, make it perfect you won't want to drive it. They're only original once. There's an older guy I know with a 71 chevelle in primer like it has been for many years dude drives it every day might not be the nicest but he gets talked to at every gas station and grocery store with ppl asking if it's for sale he always says no sorry I'm going to drive this sob til I die
As is, street cred unlimited.
@@youteo3596 Back in 1980 I bought a 70 442 convertible that was Matador Red with white interior. It had 110K miles and had been driven fairly hard but was overall decent paint original car. It smoked a little when driven hard but ran good. The first couple of years I drove it as it was. I drove it everywhere and had a great time with it. Then I had it apart for a 2 year restoration. It turned out great but I was afraid to drive it. I had a ton of cash in it for those times and sold it in the end and started another build. If I would not of restored the 442 I would of kept it and continued to have a good time. So I am with you on your assessment on this Cuda! The Mustang I now have is totally original down to the last thing and I will never restore it.
I was a U.S park service ranger in San Francisco and when Don Johnson was fliming Nash bridges the flim crew would keep all three 1971 cuda.rag tops all yellow with 383 motor 440 motor and hemi motor in our park during the day, these cars would go out at night to flim, there was a guard watching them but he had no problem with me sitting in the hemi, I think it was one of 11 71 cudas made thanks!
Nothing like buying a 1 owner, all paperwork, all original, Cuda!
Phipps is a cool dude.
His former landlord when his shop was in that old green place.
Love the color reminds me of the Cuda on Nash Bridges

I've been around 71 cuda's for quite a while. It's hard to find a car like that these days that hasn't changed hands a dozen times in the past decade with everyone trying to make a buck on it every step of the way. Looks like a decent car, price is just what someone is willing to pay.
That's because only idiots are looking for 'cars like that" and only fool "sellers" waited this long to "cash in" on a bottom of the "high performance" small-block smog-era slushbox rusted-out low-impact paint California-emissions "rare" 'Cudas with AC that are "valued" at double or triple what a "good" and "solid" small-block/six-cylinder BARRACUDA "economy model" can be bought for to "clone" a big-block - 'Hemi or 440 Magnum with the latter being the far more "attainable" and "affordable" and "profitable" project car to "clone" - 'Cuda only by the idiot "sellers" because.they're "already 'Cudas" and can be "parted out" so "profitably" by selling "online" all the unneeded and "rare" and "sought after" and "factory original" non-big block "parts" to help "finance" the "cloning" of the "body" into a "HemiCuda".
Of course no Hemi car ever had AC, everything forward of the "floorpans" on/in a small-block E-body has to be "swapped" to "clone" a big-block Hemi 'Cuda, nobody wants a "seven two seven" slushbox beind a 'Hemi and "factory original" automatic Hemi AND 440 Magnum 'Cudas are so "rare" on such expensive engine-option "high performance" cars for a reason and you can't "make money" or "break even" or anywhere near it "restoring" much less "cloning" any 'Cuda these days unless you're on the RECEIVING END of the restoration/cloning "investment" and there isn't a "high-end" restoration shop on the planet that isn't "5 years out" on restorations already and none need or want to "make money" working for idiots that "invest" in "rare" muscle cars nobody wanted and/or needed to "acquire" for damn near 25 years and were "parked" YEARS AFTER the first - and last - "million dollar Mopar" Hemi B-bodies sold "at auction".
Especially since no HARDTOP Mopar Hemi E-body has hit HALF that number even after 25+ years of "inflation".
@@deeremeyer1749 Wow, that's quite the rant.
Shit I love this car, And do any one on here talking 👄 😂 Shit have one,or ever had one. He didn't pay to much for the car. So put that in the pipe and smoke it.
@@stevecameron4266 Now a days at our current prices minium profit is 10,000k.

@@Wontreplyeverdontbother until buyers all dry up or die. I wouldnt count on it.
Rallye package, nice! In the sea of 440's and hemi's, the 340 is often overlooked.
340 much better than the 360 that replaced it.
@@dietersmythe9649 totally agree
@@dietersmythe9649 340 is by far the best small block engine Chrysler ever made.
@@BigSlick40
i had a 70 cuda 340 and i had it up too 150 mph, lots of fun,too bad it's long gone, and if i did that today i would lose my licence with the law changes for speeding, lol
@BigSlick40 I agree just let them warm up a little while, and they'll boogie with any big block Chevy.
i remember my buddys dad having a purple RT that JUST SAT IN THE GARAGE for all 4 years of highschool
Go over it all properly,, new pans ,dents removed, proper detail it ,, how many unrestored ones are about with 1 owner ?? You can restore a car 10 times but it’s only original once!!!
Richard never thinks twice
Can't wait to see some new Gas Monkey cars and trucks I love this show 💪😁👍
Love it. Cudas are one of my favs. Smokey and the bandit t/a is my number one
340 = super sweet goes quicker and handles better than the huge hemi with all that weight ! 727 auto = tough as and 340 v8 yummie yummie !
I used to watch this show on tv. 6 years ago ;)
Nice to see again.
Bit of a Mopar fan. '69 Charger for $750 in '77. I miss it all the time.
Can't get used to not seeing Mike Coy, Sleeves, Jason, Jeremy etc coming out into the yard to check out the new build. It's like going back to your old school, but the people you knew have all been replaced by kids. And Phipps
Yeah, maybe there at the other shop working on other cars?
@@fernandoayuso2672 Dont think so. All seemed to leave once TV show finished.

Richard Rawlings rock's we can neva eva get enough of Richard and gas monkey garage who cares how much the 71 Cuda cost it's Richard frickin Rawlings Man even if Richard bought a lemon rotten to the core that lemon would famous and priceless
Looks like " Lemon Twist " yellow . Racing color, I dig it ! 😊
Great video! Love it. In my opinion 71 Plymouth Cuda is the best muscle car ever built! Can’t wait to see the journey of this one!
70 Chevelle in my opinion
Call Nash Bridges he would love to have this one to go with his convertible Cuda.
nash,s convertable, never existed. they never made any that yr.. it was a 71. they were too scard to tell him,so thay had 2 made.
sorry,70..
There were like 5 or 6 cars for that show. Various drivetrains.. None were Real Hemis
I like that Phipps is way more camera friendly. You guys have opportunity for so much content. People want to know more content about Richard, Phipps. I like just listening to Richard talk.
Mine was a 70 AAR 340 6pack, love to have it back
You have done great job continuing your brand via Facebook and social media...wish you and your crew the best.
Guess thats what they call an honest car..
Personally I'd get it running and driving, fix the floor pans make the interior nice and everything working, and leave it like it is, guarantee people would remember a beat up butterscotch Cuda over a pristine restored say, black one...
Nobody is going to change the color on such a rare car.
I am one that will walk right by the pampered show queens. I like a car that tells its own story. Driven , dented and enjoyed. It can only be origional once. Lots of history erased at the hands of restorers.
Matter of taste i suppose. I would do nut and bolt restoration on this one , change the color but keep the rest as close to 100% original as possible, this would fetch good money.
There's a purple superbird 426 sitting in a garage about 2 miles from me right now. The old man bought it new and just pulls it out washes it and backs it back in. Wouldn't sell it for love or money but it looks brand new.
My nan had a purple hemi cuda back in 71 and according to my pop she used to drag race. I wish i knew my nan like this before she got sick
Richard can't stand still for a second, always fiddling with something, usually his hair :))

If he bought it in Merced he probably lived in Merced or Atwater. There used to be an Air Force Base out there called Castle Air Force Base that has been sold to the county about 15 years ago or so. They got a killer air museum including an SR- 71 Blackbird! Great car!
That’s funny seeing this comment. I live in Merced

I own a 1972 barracuda. I am the second owner. It has a 318 motor. Automatic. Ive taken great car of it. I bought this car in 1978 in vallejo, ca..
Love this new Gas Monkey media! So more interesting watching the head monkey do the important work and show what really makes the Dollars or quids
Phipps Automotive, may we never forget!. Richard is lucky to have such an oldschool wrench turner as Phipps and I'm sure Richard knows but still!.. Anyways I think this will be a good purchase when it's polished up and Phipps and the monkey's get it running right again.

I'm usually not a fan of yellow cars, but if you're going to do yellow, that shade of yellow, I think is beautiful. Sort of a butterscotch yellow. Reminds me a bit of Bahama yellow Porsche used.
If I was a guy who won the sweepstakes I would take that car all day long before any of the other cars

Right? There was this 90's TV show with Don Johnson called "Nash Bridges". His character drove a '71 Cuda convertible in yellow, and that car was absolutely bitchin'.
He said winner "Adam" bought 1 shirt a sticker and donated..that doesn't even make sense. Why donate for same points but get 1 shirt?
@@americafirstmaga5073 I think it doubled your points if you made a donation and you only had to spend a couple more bucks.

Richard seems like a cool dude... sure knows his stuff! The episode that floored me was the Raven Black Boss 429. Went to auction and he made like 30k.... should have went for a lot more.
you can do PDR and remove most dents, and then retouch the scratches with a fine brush.
I’m sure we’ve seen this episode before
Hey Richard I ordered shirts three-plus weeks ago have not seen them was trying to get in and win one of your cars, help a brother out
I have never seen bucket seats that two- tone tan & brown colors. Very interesting .
Cudascotch?
When Buttercuda was right there! 😂
Cool Car! I would bring it back to original and drive the wheels off it! :)
same here. Would only change the color but clean, derust and polish the engine. Probs has another 100k miles in it if the engine is solid.
Beautiful car. Very rare condition! Everyman has his dream Resto-Mod for this Gem. Richard scores again!
He only scores when he sales for more lol
why resto-mod its worth more as a numbers correct original not some hacked up modified pos
paid $9500 for my 72 in 2005, non matching; dropped 50K total; but it's rotisserie as it left the factory hemi orange, 30 over, whiplash cam, long tube headers, air gap intake, eldelbrock 500, turbo mufflers, new upholstery interior, windows, badges, rubber, seals the whole car gone through
Nash Bridges loved this color!
I can’t wait to see what you do with that Gem!
Richard usually under-values MOPARS..
fix dents & rust on original panels, polish it,sell it..
Would be a nasty built car!
Outstanding!
I’ve got a 72” 340 Barracuda with 26,000 original miles that I’m restoring , it’s rare like the cuda scotch but worth every Penny because he can set his own price tag on it . But have no doubt they are stupid expensive to restore !
This better than ever....... it seems raw with Big Monkey doing the work. Plus I love the car even in that colour .
it upset me when the bleeped the price , richard has always been transparent and doing so has gotten him so far in his work... lets stay that way
It was 40
Nothing wrong with a 340, I have seen that motor take down a number of Chev 396's both Chevelle and El Camino.
LOL.........maybe over a cliff . A LT-1 in a camaro or Chevelle woul;d eat a 340's LUNCH.
This is just so fun - learning all the details by example.
For me The Stinky Window Tint he wants Richard to Smell is the best Part
I can't find any information on whether E-body interiors could be had in two tone tan/brown. I have never seen one like that. Legendary does offer this color combo but I don't know if that is OEM. Where is Mark Worman or Tony D'Agostino when you need them (Dennis may know...).
According to my source, which is a Cars & Parts ID number book, these are the following interior colors for all 1971 Plymouth models. Light blue, medium blue, dark blue, russet, green, tan, light gold, medium gold, black, black & orange, black & white and black & white again. There is no two tone color combination like that listed.
I've seen quite a few 71 Barracuda/Cuda's with this brown with 2 tone brown with tan seat inserts. Not my favorite interior option, but when it's nice, it's ok.
Why is the owner making such a big deal about it still having the original radiator? The original drivetrain is what matters. The 340 is a great engine. Made about 50 more horsepower than what Chrysler advertised. It is a high reving engine and with a little tweeking it is a giant killer.
"The radiator is the 50 year old factory part and will absolutely need to be swapped out for a new one. Ain't that great?"
What would a one owner sell it car like that
@@schmuhf why would it need to be swapped out??
because MOPAR stamped matching numbers on radiators. You can keep the radiator shell for the matching numbers part and re-core it.
@@schmuhf Ahhhh, not necessarily. And if it is bad internally, it would get recored to keep the factory numbers intact on the shell.
