- WOW. Every single time I ride this loop it blows my mind just a little bit more. Yeah, there are several trails that are better trails than this one, but the experience of climbing into the alpine from the valley is like no other. Truly a bucket list ride that I can't get enough of. Also a good test of your body when trying for a top to bottom run like in this video haha. Enjoy!

I had the privilege of riding this trail in august and the memory will stay with me for a long time. Perfect day, perfect bike, perfect weather, 2100m vertical climb. Pure joy all the way down!

Hoping to get to Whistler some day but never heard of this one and for good reason I guess. Trail Forks says 5000 ft climb just to drop in. I'd probably have to camp on the way up. Lol. Looks way worth the suffering though!

i worked in whistler for a season in the winter i loved it im currently working to get back to the town full time and cant wait to explore more, hopyfully ill be back in whistler for a vacation in july ive never been there in the summer time cant wait to ride bikes in the mountains
Such a beautiful trail. I live in VT and we've got some fantastic singletrack but nothing that compares to that. Your quads must be toast, as well as your brakes, by the time you get to the bottom! Thanks Dale.
Ring fingers were absolutely toast and the brakes had failed significantly. Surprisingly not much else to report!

Definitely once the world returns to a little bit of a more "normal". This gives me a good reason to want to join the Whistler trip next time, guys were seriously bummed this year got cancelled, but gives me the chance to further continue rehab on my broken knee to get ready for next time. Any chance you can give stats for this entire loop; climbing distance and feet, descending? Have looked at the WORCA PDF and some other resources and it looks like a lot of climbing over not too far a distance, so would be a big one it seems.

I keep coming back and watching this ride. Its such a gorgeous place. I really wish the national park here would open some of the trails up and let us ride areas like this.

Everything on the yellow bike has been filmed with a Hero 8 Black. Seems to work pretty well! And yes that list always gets longer...even living here...

I think you could make it work for most places out here. Definitely wouldn't want to take it to any lift access bike parks or send any massive hucks, but anything pedally should be just fine!
It's stupid, but at the same time there are signs and general etiquette in the alpine is not to wander around off trail because you could damage sensitive plants (dunno how relevant that is in Sproatt, I think the only concern is the water supply for Whistler up there).

Will have to ride this next year. Was still closed when I was in Whistler at the end of July. You must be pushing it hard on the downhills as your heart rate is up there. Don't think my heart rate reaches anywhere close to what it would be on the uphills. Great video as always
I can pretty comfortably sit around 190 on the climbs, so this is relatively taking it easy on the descents haha. Cheers!

Way better than TOTW. Honestly only the first section of TOTW is interesting/fun (I know they are working on rebuilding stuff after it).
THAT is the kind of trail I was fantasizing about before taking up mountain biking this year. Glad I found your channel... you are opening up a new world to me. Not sure my skills are quite there yet, but maybe by September 2021 I’ll be ready to give this epic route a go. Keep up the great riding!
BTW, in one of your replies I saw you reference bike types for parks. I’m still learning, but am eager to hit Whistler Park next Spring. I’ve got a Giant Trance X 2. If you’re familiar with the bike, yay or nay for the park? I wouldn’t be doing anything too big... heck, drops and jumps on the blues still tend to be ride arounds a for me.

I personally wouldn't take a Trance level bike to the bike park. I suspect the bigger issue won't be features, but the relentless of the braking bumps that persist throughout the year. You'd be able to get by for sure, but it'll wear you down quicker!

About suitability for bike parks, just a clarification - I have the newly reintroduced for 2021 “X” variant of the Trance. It’s got more front and rear travel (150mm/f and 135mm/r) than the regular Trance, but not as much as the Reign. You may have known this, or if not, these specs may not be enough to change your answer, but I thought I’d point it out. If still nay, I have no problem renting.
Of course there is a spectrum from "absolutely do not attempt" and "too much bike". I would say that FOR ME, 150mm is the threshold for having an enjoyable time, and 180mm would be for frequent use. The worst case is your day is a little shorter than expected, so try it and see what you think! A familiar bike is also the best bike.
Good to know you like 180. When researching bikes before buying I wasn’t really sure what was appropriate and how much downhill I’d be doing. Well, I’m doing (and loving it) more than I expected. Will file your thoughts away and see where the next 6 months of progression bring me and maybe whether a new bike might is a consideration. Now to watch that drop of yours!
For what it's worth here, when I moved to BC I got a 170mm bike as "it'll handle everything!" I've gone down to a 150mm and had more fun overall, as I'm not a bike park guy and the overwhelming majority of my rides are better off because of it.

Awesome video dude. Question about helmet choice...How do you feel about climbing with your full face on? Do you climb with it off and put it on at the top or just leave it on?
Great question! All of my friends think I'm super weird because I always climb with it on. Hot helmets (or clothing in general) just don't really bother me?
Dale Stone good to know, considering getting a full face, ideally lightest one I can find but I run HOT! So I’m worried I’ll be sweat through by the first pedal stroke...maybe the new “mainline”? If it really does breathe as well as they say.
I've been more than happy with my weight of my IXS Trigger FF , even with the GoPro on it. If you can find a good deal and climb with it off it's probably worth some research!
@@jk2302 If it helps, i have the same helmet as Dale does and I do try to climb in it as much as i can. Its surprising not that far off in terms of a half shell but I do take it off on hotter days (27 degrees+). It does get sweaty but not that much more than other helmets. Otherwise no problems at all! It does help that the helmet is super light at around 600g.

@@DaleStone The hike up wasn't too bad actually. Once your into the meadows its quite nice. Went up from ricks roost then flank and up the other day and a couple other riders. 3-4hrs up from parking lot.

What a trail. As someone who’s brand new to biking, what’s the best way/path to get to the start of this trail?
If you're talking physical path, park at Function Junction, climb the roads to Sirloin and Darwin's, then head up Into the Mystic into the alpine.
If you're talking skills progression, if you're comfortable on most North Shore blacks and can put out a 1500m day when necessary, you're ready!

I rode my Norco Sight, but anything full suspension will be more than enough to have fun on LotS. The real fun begins after LotS on the way to where you parked... Bigger bike territory depending on your selection.

Looks as if you use one of the few dropper posts with virtually zero play.....I just recently got a fuel ex 8 lx and there was play in the saddle which was driving me crazy until I realized it was in the post and a mm or two is standard tolerance.
Zero play in any of my 9point8 posts! Some other brands on the other hand...

Another thought: you mentionned in another vid that you werimplicated in the design-process of the sight but had to size down and add a longer stem due to your personal body dimensions.
I guess you would have preferred to add a centimeter or two of reach or lower the top-tube, but the decision has been made to stick to a more .... conventional ... geometry and not go as low or as long as you would have liked.

Good question Definitely not a "drawback" or "conventional". We can't make an infinite number of sizes, despite that being the dream, so some end up having to pick between two and fine tune to perfection. Sizes are carefully selected to minimize the number of people who need to do that, but I am one. Agreed on +15mm reach. 👌
