All along Japan's coast are large, ancient stone tablets inscribed with warnings not to build houses below that mark because of the risks of tsunamis. This is what happens when people ignore ancient warnings.

Thats a good bit of interesting local knowledge. City Councils wanting land rates taxes I pressume bypasses all safety.

Are there a warnings about building Nuclear Power Plants where a tsunami could damage them and lead to extreme contamination from radiation? Seems the bigger danger to me. 😊

This is a belief in an against-all-odds problem being overcome by the human spirit. Good luck to these people. I hope they win.

One of the worst radiation accident? Have we forgotten Chernobyl? That was way worse than this. But these people shouldn't be able to go back. Even a small amount of radition can make you sick.

Leaving behind a life that you've built for yourself is heartbreaking and understandably extremely difficult to let go of. But if the studies and reports about how long the damage done will last are to be believed, then for their and their future generations' sake, the residents should stay away until their government can conclusively declare the areas inhabitable. I doubt that'll happen though because that'll take a lot of time and money, things which few organisations are prepared to invest. However, I hope I'm wrong, and I wish there'll be enough dedicated decision makers who'll see to it that Fukushima will eventually be restored.

One of the first thing Japan did after the meltdowns was to raise the nuclear danger limit tenfold. In japan 20 millisieverts pr year, 5 times the limit for a british nuclear worker, is considered safe for the public.

Regardless what any Govt official or medical ppl say noone really knows how much radiation ppl can tolerate, if affects the DNA, differently for eveyone. So unless they can crawl inside your DNA to tell , there will always be a certain risk level....

J Baek No, they want someone, anyone to save them and take responsibility, so a corrupt government will do. It's sad, the government already proved themselves untrustworthy, what more proof do they need?
