And before the race is won everyone can have fun imagining what they will do with $3000 pesos. Alas only a few will fulfill their dream. You did a good job of filming this contest, and showing how exhausting it is. Probably easier at sea level. I suspect that the Tarahumara, who traditionally run everywhere since they didn't have any roads, would run away with this contest. People rarely have a reason to run very much anymore. I certainly don't, although at one time I liked to run, and after high school I ran a 4:50 mile. The rest of the runners bunch up and get in each others way, allowing the first runner to gain a 50 meter lead, maybe more, assuming they are at least as fast as the other runners. In the preliminary trials if you don't start out in the lead you are running for exercise, not a place in the final run where there is some money. If everyone arrives at the first barrier at the same time then it can be a race, and arriving at the second barrier first may seal a win.
