    WELCOME BACK! I did a double take when I saw this in my notifications, for a second thought that CZcams broke and was notifying me of an old video. But it's great to see you back in the saddle...or the pilot seat, as it were.
    As far as Tuning Up to the second theme, I wouldn't even say as much work as cutting and flipping were done. The two are practically the SAME SONG. They changed the key a little, the tempo, but it's the same.
    Looking forward to your legit reviews (and awesome story segments) coming back!

    I'd love to see you do an episode on Concentration/Classic Concentration sometime. That show has a long history, the Classic version has one of my favorite themes and should really be considered for a revival.

    First off,love the new production set in this video, kudos.
    Second,while I agree that the 80's theme is terrific and all,I just loved the 1973-81 theme song, myself. That one was funky and exciting as well.
    The 2016 version (theme and show itself) is right on the money. Even Michael Strahan has become a very competent host in the two years he's done the show.
    And like you, the less talked about the 2002 Pyramid,the better!!!

      Ooo, not quite yet, these are simple reviews. I'm going to try everything within my power to get that episode done (and its accompanying storyline) this year though.

    I had only two pet peeves with the new $100,000 Pyramid (and I hope you mention them, if you review it):
    1) How ties in the front game were determined
    2) Sometimes the host would forget to reveal the subject of the Mystery 7 category after it was played (IIRC, Dick Clark didn't make that same mistake)

      DarkXaven I imagine reviews will still be spaced far apart since he is not only working for Linkara, but for Nostalgia Critic as well.

    Very nice vid! I didn't really notice much of a difference between this episode and some of your later vids from two years ago; fairly seamless, which is a very good thing in my book! And yes, the new hat looks great on you!
    The Pyramid theme and sets, in all of the show's incarnations barring Donny's tenure, all blend together in my mind to make a comforting, nostalgic blanket. It puts me in a good mood every time I tune in, and it's remained relatively samey over all this time, something most other game shows can't exactly say, with the possible exceptions of Price is Right and Jep (that last one might be a stretch, the more recent Jep themes have rankled me for various reasons). My fave Pyramid theme vote is split between the original 1973 "Tuning Up" and the 2012 Mike Richards version. I like the former for its funky vibes and the latter for its tropical, laid back mood (tuning in to GSN at 2 in the afternoon, I do feel like I need a vacation at that point in time).
    I find the 2002 Donnymid theme interesting because the first five seconds of it sound similar to parts of the theme to another Sony show, the 2003 "Astro Boy" anime. As for the show itself, just about the only good thing about it nearly two decades on is the gameplay is largely the same, except teams now have to answer six items instead of seven in the front game. Why? I'd assume fewer questions to fit in more commercials, but it's just bizarre in the long run (the Facebook version retains this odd quirk, by the way. Have you ever considered covering "home games," of either board or video variety, possibly both?).

    I HATED Pyramid '02. I wonder if Dick Clark was ever embarrassed being a celeb. contestant on the show that one time. Also, did anyone notice how when it was the winner circle time in the '02 version, they would tilt the pyramid screen face down and then do a very cheesy mood tone and zoom in on the monitors moving back up into viewing mood?

    WELCOME BACK GAME SHOW REVIEWER!! It has been a long time and I missed you so much. Quick question: Where did you find the GSN theme for Pyramid. I've looked high and low and no luck. I have the rest of the themes on my iPod (and yes I have the craptacular Donnymid theme).

      Thank you, happy to be back! The short answer is...I didn't. You'll notice that's the only segment that has the natural audio from the show playing under my review, and it's the only one that has the announcer at the beginning. Heck, clips from that show in general were extremely hard to come by.

    I do like the 2012 theme by Alan Ett. Aaron Solomon was a writer in 2002-04 and is now co-EP of both $100K and Idiotest. I recently attended a recording on his mom's birthday!

    Here's something you missed from the original review: On a few occasions on Clarkmid (Boy, that sounds odd!) A plasic sheet fell from the trilons during the winners circle segment.
    No one reacted.

  • @WarioBarker
    @WarioBarker Před 7 lety +1

    Thanks for the musical symphony (for the most part; not much you can do with the rave-y crap that was Donnymid's theme). :)
    Speaking of that revival, they *did* add score displays about halfway through Season 1, though it doesn't mitigate the other issues. IIRC, for Season 2 they moved Donny's podium to the other side of the main-game pyramid for...whatever reason.
    Still, if you thought Donnymid's set was bad, by all indication the ones used for several of the unsold pilots were substantially worse, with the Winner's Circle not even being the centerpiece in the 1996 and '97 attempts.

    • @Grid17Productions
      @Grid17Productions  Před 7 lety

      Oh yeah, I've seen clips from a couple of the "$1,000,000 Pyramid" pilots. One looked quite good...the other looked like 3 rear projection screens and some railings very roughly in a triangle shape...

  • @trainman666

    I think that turned out really well, and I wish you luck with future projects. Bout the only thing I saw that threw me for a loop was that the host sections where you were shown was a little bit blurry, even on 720p HD.

      The footage of the Reviewer, or just the news set? I made the news set background deliberately blurry to try and fake a depth-of-field effect.

    I love your videos. But I have to disagree with your rankings. #1 is the king, you nailed it. You don't best the 80s theme. However, 2 and 3 should be flipped--but NOT BY MUCH. Each of them both have the pyramid feel, but I just think that the current theme is a bit superior because of the modern feel to it. I though 2012's theme was nice..but it just wasn't...strong...i think I want to say strong...enough. Like, one of the things that made Pyramid's theme so iconic was that it commanded your attention when it came on.

      Theme music is a fundamental element of game shows and the history of them; the music is so much a part of game shows because the theme music engages the viewers, and the theme music sets the atmosphere/tone as to the show itself. To me, they are a huge part of game shows. The vast majority of the themes are part of the Instrumental Music genre, which I play in my music classroom to demonstrate the genre and fun of game shows.

      Grid17Productions The format of Pyramid is owned by Sony. All episodes that exist are owned by Sony. The only ones that are not would possibly be any syndicated Cullen episodes. Also the John Davidson version had some other cooks in the kitchen. I would bet Sony has the Davidson shows but rights to air them might be tricky. Sony owns all of the Bob Stewart library of games.
