    Dan, your videos have become my "bible". We have had our 2008 Senator Vermont for 3 weeks now and have learned everything from your vlogs. They are our lifeline. I cant thankyou enough for being there when we need you! Sue and Cate, Newcastle-upon-Tyne

    We too follow your adage “just in case” - my wife tows a spare caravan, the same name and model, just in case any part of the original one fails. Lol. Great video again Dan. A simple fix - but the untrained may be put off messing with electrics. So we’ll done in explaining step by step how to get out of a quandary. Dave.

    Top tip there Dan, could also put some Vaseline on the terminals as well to protect them, 👍👍👍👍👍👍

    Thank you for this video. It saved me a lot of time and expense. Had put the sterilising fluid through the system yesterday, ready for our first trip next weekend. let it sit overnight, and the pump is working fine. Went to flush it this afternoon pump would not work. Searched on CZcams and your video popped, followed your instructions andhey presto, a bit of wet and dry problem resolved. Pump working great🎉
    Thank you😊

    Dan, my Phoenix, same age as yours did the same last year. I also bought a whale replacement pump which incidentally is so much better to use and delivers better pressure than the supplied Truma. Just had four weeks away. Never missed a beat

    Had same problem last month's trip mate. Had to drive to the local caravan centre. 60 quid later, the new one worked perfectly, but I wasn't happy with the connections, quite corroded. In fact now, the new pump is operating way better. Shower pressure is brilliant. That said, I don't know how old the original one was as it came with the van. I used some emery cloth to do what you've done and fingers crossed all good. Nice one.

    We’re on a CL without facilities and we have had an issue exactly as you described. Solved with an emery board. Thanks again and keep posting the videos!

    Hi Dan, a little surprised that you didn't smear Vaseline on the terminals and secondly, why haven't you fitted an inboard pump? I had so much hassle with my Whale pump and it's manually adjusted pressure switch that I converted to an inboard pump with built-in pressure switch and self-priming and done away with the outside pump completely. The pump that bought was on Amazon at £99.00 and delivers 17ltrs per minute. Fantastic pump and 100% better than the old system.

    Thanks for that tip Dan. Following your original review of that Whale pump we bought one to replace our original Truma one, which was awful. Sadly the Whale one lasted just 2 years and 9 months before the motor failed, which was pretty very annoying as it had hardly any use during the pandemic and was carefully looked after. I hope our replacement Whale lasts longer than that?

      Hi Andrew, yes - i have a couple of fibre glass pens, i use them on PCBs, but i didnt want any fibreglass rubbings anywhere near the contacts here.

    Very interesting.
    I'll make sure we take an emery board with us.
    Quick question: would the condition of the terminal be looked at the annual service ?

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Martin, the only thing the service would pick up is if the pump worked or not, not the condition of the terminals so say. 👍

  • @stevezodiac491

    I am in my caravan now and my inboard pump stopped working as we were charging the system up, on arrival, after the caravan was idle for a fortnight in the storage yard. A few minutes later, the pump burst back into action. This is something the pump has never done before.
    Evidently the pump has an over temp motor cut out sensor on it. My belief is that the culprit is alge formation in the pump causing the pump to be harder to power because it is sticking.
    My plan is to put a couple of milton sterilizing tablets, all broken up, into the water hog and purge the water system, including the pump, with sterilized water, when we are leaving site ?

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Před 10 měsíci

      Hi, if possible - don’t use Milton - use Puriclean. Milton can and will damage any metal parts in your system, including hot water tank.
      Puriclean will dissolve any micro bio film and sterilise the system too. Do this about once a year. Have a look for my vid about sterilising fresh water. 👍

    I have a swift Charisma 2004 and I have an airlock that I can't get rid of. For 5 days I have been bleeding my boiler opening the 3 hot taps on the van and running water for up to 5 minutes as advised online then turning them off ans leaving them for varying lengths of time before turning the taps on again. The pump appears to work fine... Do you have any suggestions or advice?

  • @lukemee1471

    You could have sprayed electrical contact cleaner on the sand paper

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Před měsícem

      you are right, BUT.... i didnt want to introduce any cleaners or solvents in a housing so close to our drinking water supply. On other connections that are a bit further away from the water pipe, (like the Whale) i'd do exactly as you suggested.

    An idea to put a bung into the water intake to prevent contaminated pieces entering the hole. WD40 also make a contact cleaner that evaporates once used 👍good spare though 🔫

    Dan, thanks as always for your content. Could I be cheeky and ask do you know what the difference between the Truma pump with like a small puck on the end and the one everyone seems to have with a smaller barrel type pump on the end of the hose? They are drastically different in price but I haven't seen the cheaper one before? Mines had it so need to order a new one! Thanks as always

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Před rokem

      Hi Mat, yes indeed this is very easy to answer. The pump with a small puck on the end isn't a pump. It is literally a filter, with a pipe and a connecting handle. These rely on an internal pump in the caravan.
      The bigger "end" and the more expensive hose does have an impeller pump on the end, as there is usually no internal pump in the caravan.
      Hope that helps.

    Dan… another great vid… can I just ask which whale pump that is in particular? Mine is so hard to engage and remove and feels very brittle in my hands and regularly come apart. Yours clicked in with such ease my mouth hid the floor. Thanks

      I’ll try that. Never had a good experience with it on electrical contacts though, the introduction of dirt sticking to the contacts, and reduced continuity. but I’ll try.

    Open terminals in a moist environment? Crap design. Typical of most caravan engineering.
