Of all of the Drag Artists, I never saw Lily Savage or Dame Edna as anything other than their characters. I saw Dame Edna’s retirement tour and Paul O’Grady’s final performance as Miss Hannigan the week before he died. I didn’t once stop to think about the men behind the characters. I don’t know if it’s from growing up in the 90’s and seeing them on television constantly but they each had consistent backstories with family that were as well known (Veera, Madge…). Drag Queen just doesn’t cover it when you see that there is more than shade involved. Lily and Enda were also exceptional comedians and artists who’s backgrounds were very different but who reached artistic perfection in their characters. The fact that they were the only two Drag Artists, again each wildly different, to be invited more than once on Parkinson is testament to that. It’s just a shame that Paul wasn’t as fond of Lily the more he matured. She would have continued pushing and defining the meaning of Drag for all to follow. With Paul sadly gone, we can at least enjoy the thought of Lily out there still trying to find the light! Thank you for a life time of laughs as your wonderful self, Paul, and for releasing Miss Savage into our domain. I hope you understood just how appreciated you were.
That's the voice that calmed the dogs... I saw from Norway when he did his thing in Battersea... Lovely human!
Thanks so much for uploading this. Paul's wit was razor-sharp and none could match it! We won't see his like again. RIP
Just wonderful, Paul’s razor sharp wit and Michael being the perfect foil. Saw this years ago so glad it’s been uploaded again.
Paul's timing was perfect.
