  • Chips Ahoy Cookies - Cookie Man vs. the Moonster - 1960's Nabisco Commercial
1960's TV commercial for Nabisco Chips Ahoy cookies. Produced and co-written by my dad Frank Broadhurst - 1925-2005, for McCann Erickson in NYC. He did all five(?) of the Cookieman commercials featuring Bob Kaliban - 1933-2020. Very silly situations with bad puns and obscure sight gags, they had a lot of fun. (The announcer says "out in the moon day sun", and an Englishman is standing there for a moment with his dog)
Dad actually asked me where I wanted to see Cookie Man next - I said "the moon". He then asked and with what monster..? I replied a "Moonster". Done and done. So at 8 years old, I "wrote" a TV spot. :-) And I was at the shoot outside of Las Vegas in a park with that crazy stalagmite looking terrain.
I pulled the video off of my Dad's personal 16mm films I recently acquired. I will post more as I review and transfer them.
