The irony is that The Stepford Wives at least in its original form was a story calling out misogyny and the book and original movie have been very misrepresented for years by those who can't see what the story was trying to say.

The remakes BIGGEST mistake was to turn it into a...Hanna Barbara FLINT STONES type cartoon.
This story as sci fi/horror doesnt work as some whacky over the top offering, it was the subtlety of the original, that was it's strength, with much a quiter black comedy aspect, the political social comment about the Californian obsession with staying young & the real life Women's lib movement worked well capturing the issues of the day.
