Orlkin the Fool, jester to the Hanoverian court of the Elector Falbius, played two metal chords on the mandolin at court in Heisburg on 23 December 1523. Unfortunately, he was subsequently burned at the stake as a witch, so full records are understandably lacking. It is said that he went out with two fingers upraised.
Ha ha ........ and apparently the Jester leant forward and with 1 slim finger he managed to pluck the Queens G String before he died!

They don't deliver a bad track because there's any. All tracks from Nightwish are from good to brilliant.
I told them every one is a banger and got a lecture on banger magnitudes, if only there was a banger 0dB reference level we could easily understand the ratings in dB up or down and being a logarithmic ratio, a huge range is possible in simple numbers.

Emppu is very underrated and a lot of that is because in a metal band you usually would have a rhythm guitar and a lead whereas for all Nightwish's layers and wall of sound there is essentially only 1 guitarist who is playing both lead and rhythm hence he can't mess around as much :D

Emppu often seems like he's willing to just play for the song, a role player if you will, which causes him to get overlooked easily. In truth, he's got loads of skill and plays a large part in the wall of sound. All members are insanely talented but he just doesn't get the opportunities to shine on a casual viewing.
@@Krimako I don’t think they are a band that needs huge solos. They are building soundscapes and complex pieces of music and a big screaming guitar solo may seem out of place
I would suggest the Wembley opener “shudder before the beautiful”, which is also a great intro to “the greatest show on earth”

I do like the Wembley version better. Tampere has the fireworks and uillean pipes, but oddly enough I think Troy's guitar with the eBow from Wembley fits the song even better. I do enjoy Wembley's mix better as well - seems fuller to me. But you can't go wrong with either, and of course nothing prevents one from watching and enjoying both. ;)

I'll offer my recommendations, although there many many more you will like.
Shudder Before The Beautiful - Wembley (show opener)
Dark Chest of Wonders - Wacken (show opener)
Sahara - Tampa (different to anything else)
Greatest Show on Earth - Tampere (avoid the 17 minute video which omits the ending, let it run to the end of the credits)
Some prefer the Wembley version of GSOE. There is no right or wrong, they are just different.

This song has a special place in my heart !!! Not just because wolf is Estonian national animal but the windmill battle between Tuomas and Floor ....holy mother of Odin !!!
The title is taken from a King's novel called “Wolves of the Calla”. But the conception of the book has nothing to do with the text behind the song, it is far more inspired by the film "Dead Poets' Society". The main idea is - one must live his life the best he can, to strive for his aims, because the wolves are always 7 days behind you and they will catch you if your life is not of full value... and then you will be only dead meat.
That's what Tuomas said in one interview.

The instrument Troy is playing is called a Bazuki, an Irish Folk instrument, similar to a Mandolin.
is basicaly adapted from the Greek Bouzouki though because Greek one is used mostly for lead melody and is mostly played ina siting position and takes some geting used to for being played while standing because of the pear shaped soundbox so the Irish version which is mostly used for arpegio style acompaniaments and played mostly standing was adapted by shaping the soundbox more flat on the back therefore had to enlarge it to maintain the air bulk equivalense

That performance of Sahara always flies under the radar. Absolutely stunning! Small venue and up close and personal camera shots throughout! Saw a personal side of the band. Relaxed and on fire with that middle eastern vibe!

I'm not a real Nightwish fan, love all quality music as you do. But I have to say they are an unbelievable stunning band. In a way they inspired me to revive my interest in all kinds of rock/popmusic again. And.........honestly...... I'am just a 'jealous guy'.........cause you still have to do at least 10 or more songs with the same and even more surprising energie and musicality. The greatest show on earth, Tampere....I say it is nuts. Because even if you don't like it, you'll have to admire it.

I was at Floor's show on 2nd September and due to technical difficulties Floor had some stories and anecdotes. One of them about her Wolf and Dog tattoo's.
Dog is the Floor that wants to be home at the farm and loves the home life, Wolf is Floor touring with Nightwish e.a. and singing/performing.
At that moment she had a fat Dog and an skinny Wolf happy to go on the road again.

Your British humor makes me remember how I used to watch shows from the TV of the Nightwishland (a.k.a Finland 🇫🇮). (we Finns just loved Kenny Everett, Benny Hill, Not the Nine o'clock News, Absolutely Fabulous, Keeping Up Appearances, etc. etc.)
I think we come from the same generation that’s what we’re trying to make low budget TV
When you do The Greatest Show On Earth and The Poet and the Pendulum both songs (epics) require some research first as to what they are about as they are each in five parts. I would definitely advise the lyrics on screen. And Greatest Show from Tampere and The Poet from Wembley. Both have the lyrics. Many get utterly lost without knowing the background stories. Oh, and many stop The Greatest Show thinking it’s finished but there is still about five minutes left. My other suggestions both from the Wembley concert are Shudder Before the Beautiful and While Your Lips are Still Red (Marko with Floor backing). Also from Tampere, Marko’s The Islander. Oh, and if you ever decide to do all of one of their many concerts, I’M IN! Great channel guys. You two are my favourites. From Canada.

Want to hear more from Floor? She did Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort on a Dutch show called Beste Zangers (Best Singers) in 2019. Henk Poort Played the Phantom on the Dutch production of the show. Also, she is over 6" tall and she really has earned the nickname "The Valkyrie" ( in a very complementary way, of course). Hello from Florida!
And in November 2022 Henk performed on stage with Nightwish at the Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam.

excellent reaction again gents! i will echo several other comments i have seen and recommend the greatest show on earth! but it HAS to be the tampere version. there's just no comparison, the wembley version is good of course, but tampere is simply stellar. stay safe guys :)
