omg, I was looking to make just a s, m, l size of my pattern, but I cant even find my own right fit yet. Sounds like tremendous amount of work just to put one pattern out there. This was very helpful and no one talks about it. Thank you!

Josefine, I loved when you said ‘my time is better used than grading’. That's exactly how I feel about grading! đŸ€Ł Interesting that you didn't get on with Illustrator. It's the software I used to learn digital patternmaking while back at fashion school, and when I've tried to use other tools, I find that I just became very slow.
I also commend you on creating two size ranges. Creating so many sizes for each pattern is one aspect of selling sewing patterns that puts me off; I know that it is essential to be size inclusive, but I really do struggle with (what I perceive to be) an expectation that if I release a pattern in just a handful of sizes, I will become a pariah for not catering to many sizes, whether larger or smaller. 😬
Anyhow, fab video! Love that we both this week posted 'what it takes to...' type of videos! 😍

Yes I do get on with illustrator for everything else but for drafting and grading there are options to at are so much better and more efficient in my opinion. I find when using a new program the process is very slow but after a while when you have learned, it speeds the workflow up a lot. Yes I think having a large size range is almost a must. And I think it’s great that so many designers choose to do it this way to be more inclusive.
Yeah I also thought it was a neat coincidence that we had the same theme for our videos this week!

Hello. I'm LetĂcia, from Brazil, a fashion designer and pattern maker and I started recentilly to make and sell digital patterns. Thank you for sharing your process, it was really helpfull. I'm strugling to launch my firts collection, it takes so much time to make video tutorials and I noticed that you dont do it, only photo right? Can you tell how much time it takes to make a simple pattern considering the entire process? And how do you calculate the price of it? I'm strugling with that too, since I only make a one test and one piece for photos. How to spread the cost of making the patterns?
Happy sewing for you too. And thank you again.

Hi, congratulations on starting your business! For my patterns I make instructions with illustrations and I also do video tutorials for all my patterns. For some of them I also do a blog post with photos. I haven’t calculated how much time each pattern takes. It really depends. I just pick a price that seems reasonable, considering other patterns on the market and how complicated the design is. For my printed paper patterns I calculate the cost and make sure there’s enough margin for wholesale and then profit.
      Hope that helps!

Dear, I have paper patterns of mine, which I want to digitalize. Do you recommend to PAD System to do so or better do the Pattern Workshop online. Will PAD System be integrated in the workshop? Thank you very much, I feel very helpless at the moment, with not being able to digitalize my patterns. Kindly, Tatiana

@@tatianaacademy7007 Hi, pattern workshop only focuses on adobe illustrator which you can use for digitising! I prefer pad system but as a beginner with a small budget adobe illustrator is great. 😊 even if you use pad system you will still need adobe illustrator if you plan to make sewing patterns (for layout, layers etc). In pattern workshop there’s even a chapter about how to digitise your paper patterns!

@@tatianaacademy7007 yes that’s what I did and I would recommend that way. You don’t need everything right from the beginning. Pad system costs $45/month I think and it’s quite easy to learn. Especially if you are familiar with adobe programs. I learned without a course or anything. Just their tutorials and a lot of time. I’ve been thinking about creating a training course all about Pad system. Maybe I will have it available by the time you want to learn 😇
      Good luck! 👏

Pattern Making and Grading in Illustrator is the wrong way to go!1 - way to long, not accurate, you do not have Seam Allowance Tools, Do not do!! Invest in an industry Pattern Making Software! otherwise you are wasting too much time!!
