XQ-58A Valkyrie Wingman flies with F-35 & F-22 Stealth Fighters

  • The XQ-58A Valkyrie highly autonomous, low-cost tactical unmanned air vehicle continues its flight test programme over the vast area of Eglin Air Force Base, situated in the western Florida Panhandle, USA. The XQ-58 Valkyrie incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) is designed to act as a loyal wingman, and as such on social media and military defence websites the name loyal wingman is now synonymous with this unmanned combat air vehicle, even though there are or have been other projects.
    Footage includes flight pre flight checks, transportation, launch, wing man flight and XQ-58A Valkyrie recovery.

    Does it not have landing gear? Will this type of landing typify the more expensive CCA?

      It will be launched by a trailer/launcher and land by parachute. It likely keeps development costs down for this first generation development. The 2nd development of this experimental aircraft is the XQ-67A it basically shares the same airframe/chasis again all part of keeping cost under control by not starting from scratch, but developed by a different company. The XQ-67A includes the ability to take off and land from a runway, using retractable takeoff/landing gear.

      @@OFFTRACKPLACES Thanks for the reply and detail. Do you have an official source on that? I want to cite it for a paper i'm writing for a class. I'm guessing this is one of the reasons why the valkyrie was moved to the PAACK program rather than CCA but maybe the XQ-67A can compete to get involved with CCA
