Black Magic, you are one special box, as well as the dress maker pins and ribbon labels! Notion boxes are always like digging through treasure chests and time capsules!
I have a collection of old sewing notions as well. I’m a life long sewer and was raised by a life long sewer. They all bring back great memories of clothing that we made and the occasions that they were worn at. Especially the excitement of picking out fabrics for our Easter outfits. What really brought me back was the Black Magic box. That was my mums favourite chocolates and she shared them with us sparingly. I can still taste the strawberry cream.❤️🇨🇦
@@TarnishedTreasures1 Maybe half an hour. We live in Cumming near Lake Lanier. We're in a horse community of 50 homes, all homes with acreage. We have 6 acres and a barn but we are horseless (ha) presently.😊🐎🐎🐎 Just 2 dogs, a cat and a parakeet.
I get excited too when l find sewing notions old or new. I especially love finding the previous owners pin cushions at estate sales. I can almost feel their love of sewing and wondered what they made. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing. I have all my great grandmothers buttons and sewing things. I will go through them today with renewed vision and interest thanks to you.
I started collecting vintage buttons after watching your videos. A few months ago I found vintage Christmas button covers. I was so excited. I love the Black Magic box. I learn so much from you. Thank you.🙂
I love sewing notions and have a collection myself. Just want to say that your tape measure has a secret. The tiny hole in a winding handle should have a micro picture in it. Have a look you might find a Victorian image inside. As for Black Magic chocolate it is still in production though the box is less glamorous now days.
I think of all your great finds, I enjoyed this the most. I’m a lifelong sewer and vintage supply collector. The time and artistry used for the paper wrappings is exquisite.
I’ve sewn and collected vintage/antique supplies & notions all my life. But they are ferreted away with regular sewing supplies & in the attic. You inspire me to organize it together and use some in display. Fun! ☘️🥰🥳
Very good video a lot of nice items love the graphics. I don’t see as much as I used to but still like to collect sewing notions when I’m out thrifting🙂
Absolute treasure! In England we have charity shops and if you're patient and prepared to rummage, sometimes you find sewing notions. Thank you for such an absorbing watch.
So many beautiful treasures! To me a sewing basket is so personal, filled with things a person created or repaired or hoped to make someday. I love finding sewing kits at estate sales and being able to keep that energy alive. I found that skirt marker at a sale a few years back. I get so much use out of it!
Your Sewing Notions collection is so cute. The square and horseshoe buttons are fun. My mom taught me how to sew in 1967 when I was 10 and I still have & use our 1955 Singer Rocketeer. My incredible son-in-law cleaned it so it’s as good as new.
I have watched this video 8-10 times now. I am always intrigued at the things that you find at thrift stores etc. We just don’t have the quality of things that you find at our thrift stores. Just love watching your videos. Thank you for bringing this to us.
Amazing!!! Love vintage sewing notions ad those boxes and the ribbons, wow!!! All I could do to not scream and wake everybody up !!! You always find the most beautiful items!!!! Thank you so much for sharing! And also thank you for the cooking videos! Really helps to show how to make different meals!!!
I would love to see the rest of your collection! I started going to estate sales in 2021 and have started collecting antiques and since my grandmother is a seamstress and i do embroidery the sewing notions are one of my favorite finds!
Your measuring tape is an Antique Victorian Coquilla Nut. They were very popular in the 1880s to 1990s. Also the tiny clear dot in the top twister is called a Stanhope. If you look very closely you’ll see a picture of something. An area or building.
I have used large mother of pearl coat buttons to make piin cushions similar to the one from the book. Just make a little velvet cushion to sandwich between the buttons. Add a long ribbon to wear around your neck.
Wow,you have so many neat things! I only have a couple old pin cushions, and 3 jars of old white buttons, but.Your video just made me decide I want to start collecting old sewing notions. It will be a fun thing to look for and doesn't take up a lot of room.T hank you for sharing.
That’s wonderful. I was just thinking today that I have never regretted any sewing notion or sewing boxes full of stuff that I have bought. I’ve always used or treasured it all.
Love it all! I actually sold one of those German cubes with the glass pins on eBay a while back and the man wrote me and said he was purchasing for his wife’s sculptures! It seriously made me think of you! How funny.

Hi. I’m about as far as far can get from California. There were many Victorian to mid century family owned dept. stores around here. I believe I find a lot of items because of the plethora of those stores.
So lovely ☺️ I just love antique sewing notions and always look for them . I found some 1920s belt buckles and buttons at goodwill outlet a while back and forgot all about them ! Thanks for the reminder . How do you display or store them ? Just curious . Also I loooove Victoria magazine and I can’t find them online . All big book stores are practically out of business around here so I can’t just pick one up like I used to from like Barnes and nobles etc. I think I should just get subscription .
To have lived when utilitarian items were also beautiful!

Time capsule is the best way to describe it. I think the white box was for alcohol.
Black Magic chocolates were popular in the U.K. in the 70’s & 80’s.

Do you sharpen or use your vintage scissors as is or are they just for display? Would love to find some for my budding fashion designer! Thanks!
I use them but some are pretty dull so I reach for the sharper ones.
Is the magazine still publishing? I really like to subscribed.
I just looked online. It appears That they publish seven magazines a year. I do follow them on Instagram
