What an artist. What a voice. What a spectacular musician. What a consummate professional. What a lovely person. When I heard that Ms. Deutekom was singing Abigail in our Edmonton Opera production of Nabucco in 1981, I signed up immediately to be a supernumerary soldier in the production. Rehearsals and her performances were thrilling, and now at age 70, my experience of working with this legendary singer remains an emotional and musical highlight of my life. Thank you.
Fantastic, another gem from one of my favorite 😍 she was an absolute pleasure to work and listen too, I did quite a few productions with her in my youth @ the Dutch Opera, down to earth, kind & humble. Even during early morning rehearsals she would almost always sing full throttle 😝 who else can sing Turandot at 10:00AM
Generally, I'm not a fan of soprani voices. There are a few stellar exceptions. Deutekom is one....Moffo, and Obratsova are the others. More inclined toward mezzos, but then similarly inclined to cellos and French horns....:)

I have followed Ms Deutecom for many years. She is the finest soprano of her generation that I know.

I was at her grave last saterday and let her sing again, my phone putting on the grave and some recordings of her playing there, it'was fantastic!

Obratsova was a dark mezzo-soprano.
