Great video. Like you, I’ve been using my Garmin ecosystem (1030, Radar and 800 for some time now. I did had the extended battery to the mix as fail safe to any potential battery issues and it’s been a perfect setup here in North Texas where the open roads can be dark on anything but near full moon lite night. Keep the great videos coming!!!
I hope garmin will release an updated version of this lamp. It would be perfect, using it in auto-mode, if it wouldnt drain the battery so quickly. I also heard that it is not possible to recharge the lamp with a powerbank while using it. That's a huge bummer and excludes it for many rider types that go beyond 3-4 hours and wouldnt mind to carry a powerbank. Battery life and charging behaviour are the only reasons why i didnt buy this light. Hope garmin listens and does an update so i can complete my setup with 1030+, varia and UT900?
Since you mentioned “Varia”, do you mean the Varia Vision heads-up display? If so, you should be aware that the Varia Vision does NOT work with the Edge 1040 (or any Garmin with the new operating system). I was very disappointed by Garmin’s decision to not support the Vision anymore. So, stick with the 1030 as long as you plan to use the Varia Vision.
@@ChrisOwenHalper haha yes alot of time indeed. Would love to hear your views on most of the products that you've mentioned you use. I am hoping to do London2Paris in under 24hrs after Covid19. What is real world battery life like for the 1030 with sensors paired etc?
Great review, thanks ever so much. Out of curiosity, have you seen any improvement in the battery life with firmware updates or is it still poor when communicating with the bike computer? I noticed that Garmin did not update the front bike light model last year when they released the new Varia rear light, so I thought they might be addressing some of the negatives you mentioned through software releases rather than a new model.
Thanks for the comment and the insight. I haven't done any extended night rides in a while and don't have an answer do your question. However, I will try to find some time and test out your theory.
Just as a follow up, I haven't seen any firmware updates since your comment, and perhaps event since my review. So, the light's performance has not changed.
Hello and thanks for watching the video. These aerobars are made by Specialized and specifically for the Venge bike. Here is a link for the Venge VIAS version. There is also a version for the 2019/2020 Venge too. Just search on Google and you should find it. www.specialized.com/IS/en_GB/vias-clip-on-aero-bars---tri-tt/p/130782?color=220816-130782&searchText=21017-2010
Hello and thanks for watching. The bike is a 2017 Specialized Venge VIAS. I love the bike and it fits like a glove for me. I'm already worrying about what I will do if I need to replace it. LOL
Hello Janos. Specialized offers aerobars made specifically for the Venge Vias. There are two models. I recommend the one in this video, which is long enough to rest your entire forearms. Specialized also makes a short one to comply with some specific bike race rules. I accidentally bought those and they are terribly uncomfortable. Be careful and make sure what you buy is for the VIAS. They are discontinued now but I am sure you can find stock somewhere. Search for the Specialized model number #21017-2010. Specialized now makes ones for the non-Vias Venge bikes (2019 and later) but those will NOT fit the VIAS. The As you've discovered, nothing else will fit the Venge Vias handle bars but these. "can it be used while charging? on longer tours?" That is a good question. I have never tried that. Powering from a USB powerbank would be a good idea. I will test that and let you know.

Very informative thanks.

Thanks for the comment.
I haven’t worked on a 1030 review yet, but given the Covid19 situation, I have some time. We all have time... lol.
