Carthage Infantry | Hail Caesar Epic Battles | Punic Wars - Warlord Games - Part 2

- How EPIC are these?! Warlord Games kindly sent me some samples sprues for their new range of Hail Caesar Epic Battles range focusing on the 2nd Punic War. This war was fought between the armies of Rome and Carthage with their associated Allies. These are full of amazing details as well as the feel of the truly epic size that Warlord are trying to achieve. If you haven't heard about Hannibal Barca, he was one of the worlds greatest tacticians and came extremely close to bringing Rome to it's knees. The 2nd Punic war is going to be amazing to battle in this Epic Battles scale!
We start this mammoth painting journey by showing you how to paint Hannibal's Libyan Heavy Infantry. Carthage had a huge mix of different types of soldiers but these were some of his better infantry. Painting Epic 12mm Infantry for the second Punic War is certainly a challenge but hopefully this painting tutorial will give you a little more confidence when painting these amazing miniatures from Warlord Games.

Painting figures so close together must be tricky, but you make it look easy. They have turned out very well, I look forward to the next one... with the elephants!

Excellent work mate yes I'm doing a few acw warlord epics at moment and done some french old gaurd epic scale may have a go at these at some stage great tutorial

These are looking great. I'm wondering how to approach these minis when they arrive. Whether to go down the contrast route, or use my trusty Vallejo paints.

Thank you very much buddy 😁 contrast definitely gives you the impression it's quicker but I think if you come up with a smart strategy (unlike me) and use Vallejo they'll be no real time difference to notice between the two methods Imo 😊

No shield designs? I don't know if little big man Studios has transfers for this range or not. Send him an email and see what he's got.
I prefer the Cromarty Forge range as the shields are embossed with the symbols
They do have shield decals, just nine in the samples sent. I'll apply them at another time no doubt 🎉
Looks great! Only 12mm? That’s small, I thought the other “Epic Battles” ranges from warlord were more like 14mm. Curious, how big are the bases? I was estimating 60mm wide based on pictures, but if the models are only 12mm I might be off.
Thanks a lot! Yeah, they're very small ... the bases are 60mm long by 20mm wide. So your estimation was right 😉
Do you paint on the primer, or is it through an airbrush? What brushes are you using?

Yes buddy, hand paint the shade colour (primer). I use a really beat up old brush for this and then for the rest I use a size 0 Kolinsky Sabre brush. I do have a video on the brush I use which you might find interesting 😁
