- The Quick and the Dead is a 1995 western film directed by Sam Raimi and starring Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio. The story focuses on "The Lady" (Stone), a gunfighter who rides into the 1878 Wild West town of Redemption, controlled by the ruthless John Herod (Hackman). The Lady joins a deadly dueling competition in an attempt to exact revenge for her father's death.
Writer Simon Moore's script for The Quick and the Dead was purchased by Sony Pictures Entertainment in May 1993, and actress Sharon Stone signed on as both star and co-producer. Development was fast tracked after director Sam Raimi's hiring, and principal photography began in Old Tucson Studios in Arizona on November 21, 1993. Distribution duties were covered by Sony-owned TriStar Pictures and Columbia Pictures. The Quick and the Dead was released in the United States on February 10, 1995 to a dismal box office performance, and received mixed but generally favorable reviews from critics.
This was Woody Strode's final performance (the film is dedicated to him), as well as the last theatrical release of Roberts Blossom. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
"How do you feel? I'm nervous. It takes a lot to scare me. I love the sensation". One of the most convincing bad ass things you could say to your opponent. It's so genuine that they'd instantly believe everything else you ever said about yourself.
The irony of the moment? When she showed back up and let him know who she really was, *he was scared shitless*. And she knew it.
It needs to be said yet again. Gene Hackman really is a class act.

"Today, I am..."
Since you're wounded and discombobulated from not one but 2 explosions, now I'm faster than you
That was a good movie, but I would have liked it better if it hadn't used all the corny over-the-top special effects. The story was plenty strong enough to stand on its own.
Nothing special about it.
Very much in line with the line from Miracle:
"If we played them 10 games, they might win 9. But not THIS game. Not tonight. "
A female Inyigo Montoya.
God bless Gene Hackman- One of the greatest actors of all time. He was so good - He is convincing - " I have always wanted to fight you Cord, ever since I met you"
He had a boat at the marina I worked at in Florida. It broke loose one day so there I am standing next to him holding a rope and I told him to just lean back and wait. Once the boat started coming back he looked at me and smiled and said "amazing what two humans can accomplish together". I saw him often after that but we never spoke again.
WHO? 😝😁
The acting in this film is 1st rate all around!

Thats actually a really horrifying scene, it bothers me even more as an adult than as a teenager when I saw this movie that she had to live with the fact that she shot her own father trying to save him.
I agree. You can tell that it was an enormous part of what made her the person she is as an adult. How do you outlive something like that?
You mean the story they stole from Once Upon a Time in The West?
@@nicomeier8098 Eh, not quite stole--the trope of living with losing a loved one because of an event the protagonist had control over, is an old one. "Once Upon a Time.." and "The Quick..." just told it differently.
It's the flashback with the father/brother hanging at the end of a rope and the souvenir that the villain left to the child that really feel "déjà vu". They could had a bit of imagination to reveal the connection between the characters.

Thank you for posting..."love the sensation"...Feel the fear and do it anyway!
Nice touch, showing just how insanely good a gunfighter Cort is even after his long abstention - no effort at all for him to dispose of the remaining henchman. It's the one thing the movie doesn't give us, the answer to whether or not Cort would have outdrawn Herod. I suspect he would have, Herod was nearly as scared of him as he was of Ellen, once he realized.
Not to mention that Herod's hand is trembling when he's about to draw, shows that Herod knows that Cort is GOOD.

A man who takes a gunshot, stands like a big tree,a bulet so slow he can scream at it while its flying right to his skull...what a bullshit.
When Cort gives that little half smile, just for a fraction of a second Herod looks genuinely terrified. Like he's scene that look before, but it was so long ago he'd forgotten what it felt like to be there, one little expression and it hits Herod that this time he might lose. Herod can't match Cort's gaze, he looks down and blinks, feeling genuine fear for the first time in years, possibly ever. I love it, it such a subtle little moment in a very unsubtle film.

And others mistake bad acting for campiness.
@@gbluetoo The subjectivity of it makes for lots of varying opinions, but you couldn't have that much hokeyness in a single big budget film unless it was put there deliberately. So you can try to be Siskel and Ebert, or you can crack a cold one and be entertained. Your choice.

Did you notice, early in this clip, that they showed the face of the town clock? Go back and check it out. The clock face is in Roman Numerals. This is an authentic depiction of the German influence on clock and watch construction. View the number four on the clock face. One would expect the Roman Numeral IV. What do you actually see? You see, instead, something different; a “made up” “Roman Numeral” IIII. Yes: IIII. Why? Because those very precise German watchmakers were disturbed about the watch face being “out of balance.” They saw the watch face as divided into thirds. This way, the first third of the numbers now have all i’s (I, II, III,IIII). The second third of the watchface now contains v’s (V, VI, VII, VIII). The remaining third contains x’s (IX, X, XI, XII). Life is so much better when things are aesthetic. 😆
