I teach my college students here in the U.S. about the Golden Age of Islam, in particular the history of psychology at the time. They learn about Ibn Sina and many others, along with the development of hospital care, including psychiatric wards in Baghdad. The students are amazed at the knowledge developed and practiced at the time and express frustration that they’ve never learned it before. I also teach about psychology in ancient Mesoamérica, China, and India, among others. The more we know, the more we appreciate and respect.

I'm an ex Muslim Atheist from 🇦🇫
What I don't like about this "Islamic Golden age contribution" is:
      it being Islamic
Islam spread from Arabia to Europe in the west, to Chinese boarders, through persian empire in Central Asia in the east, with brutal bloodshed and military force, conquering/ plundering and subjugating it way, where already there were marvelous civilisations, such as the persian or Egyptian civilisations, the indian civilisations or the Roman, and then renaming them as Islamic civilisation.
When u taken in consideration the birthplace of all the heros of Islamic Golden age , none is born or raised in Arabia, but in Persia Syria Egypt Tunisia, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan ect ....all of them being conquered lands.
All these countries/ civilisations existed long before Islamic hords butchered their way in to these countries and regions .
So what is islamic about Al Razi, avicina , albiruni, ibn khaldun, ibn rusht or AL Hazem 🤔
Other than being all declared as heretics by Islamic scholars.

For a time he was vizier to the emir of Hamad an. Here he got into a religious argument with strict believers of the army, and they soon called for his execution. Soldiers came to his house ,but, not finding him, plundered it and then called on the emir to behead him. Ibn Sina was warned in time and hid at the house of his friend Abu Said Dafdaq, where he worked on his masterpiece AI-Qanun. Ibn Sina fled persecution and the wrath of rulers several times. With his books banned, and powerful enemies plotting against him, his friends counselled moderation. To this he replied: 'I prefer a short life with width to a narrow one with length,' and continued his work undaunted."_

This also exposes the lies of liars. Who plagiarise and copy the great work done by Arab scientists and then claim it is original. W. Harvey storey appears so funny, he found the horses blood was showing pressure. When Ibn Nafees showed all that and more the systemic circulation as well as the presence of pulmonary circulation.
And when the lies are discovered still in the books credit is not given to ibn Nafees. Crime upon Crime.
I mean just like what happened in this century.
WMD in IRAQ, attacked and killed our own cream of crop young Men and women in thousands and then Iraqi 's hundreds of thousands. Then even after finding out there are no weapons of mass destruction ( WMD)
in Iraq , WE continue to have our presence their only to cheat the local inhabitants of their natural resources. Greed upon Greed that is in the fabric. The ten commandments teaches us NO LIES NO KILLING. but we lie and we kill.

He was not only talented physician , but also writer, musician, geographer, naturalist and so on. His books are still used as main course book in Europian universities.

@@ytru6989 Your knowledge is very limited, no wonder you and other Uzbeks here are so desperate to steal scientists and culture from others. Not sure what is your government is teaching you in your schools (other than "Cultural Theft"!). Ibn Sina was not only a scientist but also a poet and has many poems in Persian (not Turkish or Mongoli or Uzbeki!). In his poems, he has expressed his true feelings in his own language (Persian or Farsi). If you like, you may learn Persian and then read his poems. That would give you a clue of what you are talking about. Of course, his scientific books are in Arabic since Arabic was spoken in many countries at that time (very similar to English which is considered a scientific language today, but it doesn't mean all who are writing papers in English are from England!). At that time the area was populated and ruled by Persians (Samanid Empire). But that was BEFORE the Mongol invasion. After Mongol Invasions, many people fled to Iran's mainland to avoid getting killed by Mongols. Today Uzbeks are mostly Mongol descendants and their language is not Persian anymore. Never heard of any scientists amongst them. More think of Gengis Khan and Atila and some other uncivilized nomad invaders. Your ancestors were stealing and plundering and now you and your government are doing the same thing. If you really want to be helpful for humanity, I suggest you get yourself more educated and try to do something more helpful for humanity instead of coming here and putting stupid comments. This is what scientists do! Good luck...
Wikipedia: "Avicenna was a PERSIAN polymath who is regarded as one of the most significant physicians, astronomers, thinkers, and writers of the Islamic Golden Age. He was born in c. 980 in the village of Afshana in Transoxiana to a family of Persian stock. The village was near the Samanid capital of Bukhara".

    IBN SINA (ABU ALI AL-HUSAYN)
Abu ‘Ali al-Husayn ibn Sina is better known in Europe by the Latinized name “Avicenna.” He is probably the most significant philosopher in the Islamic tradition and arguably the most influential philosopher of the pre-modern era.
Born in Afshana near Bukhara in Central Asia in about 980, he is best known as a polymath, as a physician whose major work the Canon (al-Qanun fi’l-Tibb) continued to be taught as a medical textbook in Europe and in the Islamic world until the early modern period, and as a philosopher whose major summa the Cure (al-Shifa’) had a decisive impact upon European scholasticism and especially upon Thomas Aquinas (d. 1274).
Primarily a metaphysical philosopher of being who was concerned with understanding the self’s existence in this world in relation to its contingency, Ibn Sina’s philosophy is an attempt to construct a coherent and comprehensive system that accords with the religious exigencies of Muslim culture. As such, he may be considered to be the first major Islamic philosopher.
The philosophical space that he articulates for God as the Necessary Existence lays the foundation for his theories of the soul, intellect and cosmos. Furthermore, he articulated a development in the philosophical enterprise in classical Islam away from the apologetic concerns for establishing the relationship between religion and philosophy towards an attempt to make philosophical sense of key religious doctrines and even analyse and interpret the Qur’an. Late 20th century studies have attempted to locate him within the Aristotelian and Neoplatonic traditions.
His relationship with the latter is ambivalent: although accepting some keys aspects such as an emanationist cosmology, he rejected Neoplatonic epistemology and the theory of the pre-existent soul. However, his metaphysics owes much to the "Amonnian" synthesis of the later commentators on Aristotle and discussions in legal theory and kalam on meaning, signification and being.
Apart from philosophy, Avicenna’s other contributions lie in the fields of medicine, the natural sciences, musical theory, and mathematics. In the Islamic sciences ('ulum), he wrote a series of short commentaries on selected Qur’anic verses and chapters that reveal a trained philosopher’s hermeneutical method and attempt to come to terms with revelation. He also wrote some literary allegories about whose philosophical value 20th and 21st century scholarship is vehemently at odds.
His influence in medieval Europe spread through the translations of his works first undertaken in Spain. In the Islamic world, his impact was immediate and led to what Michot has called "la pandémie avicennienne." When al-Ghazali led the theological attack upon the heresies of the philosophers, he singled out Avicenna, and a generation later when the Shahrastani gave an account of the doctrines of the philosophers of Islam, he relied upon the work of Avicenna, whose metaphysics he later attempted to refute in his Struggling against the Philosophers (Musari‘at al-falasifa).
Avicennan metaphysics became the foundation for discussions of Islamic philosophy and philosophical theology. In the early modern period in Iran, his metaphysical positions began to be displayed by a creative modification that they underwent due to the thinkers of the school of Isfahan, in particular Mulla Sadra (d. 1641).
