@will86 I think hes saying it more symbolically. You don't gotta be so literal, anyone with half a brain knows you don't sing when going literally into battle. Though I have this theory on why soldiers are to shave and sing cadence, and I think its to look fresh in the face of the enemy. Your enemies want to fight tired, sleepy, unmotivated, and hungry soldiers, not freshly woken and energized soldiers. Having enough time to shave in the morning means you also had time to eat and maybe even sleep. Calling cadence shows that they're motivated and have enough energy to do so. While on the front, or even somewhat near it, you shouldn't ever call cadence. However, when infantry back in ww1-2 didn't have reliable motorized transportation, and had to march vast stretches of land, they weren't gonna sneak entire brigades or divisions through enemy spies and (for lack of better term) partisans, snipers, etc. So they called cadence to keep the men's spirits up, take their mind off the march, and potentially to show the enemy their strength and let them know (or make them think) they will be fighting fresh troops, not tired ones. Just my though process, ive got nothing to back this up even from my time in the army. Obviously being shaved is also just uniform and looks better but traditions nowadays come from aged ideas and strategies.
When I was stationed at fort Bragg, the Majors driver was a private E-2. He got caught shoplifting at the px, in uniform, while driving the majors humvee, in-between his two morning meetings. He could rock a cadence and was physically fit though. They gave him a slap on the wrist. And he got multiple wavers for promotion. He made SSG in just over 2 years. Crazy world. i wrote this in 1966. There are may variations.I was in the Air Force. our T.I."s let us have the lead on any march. I'm glad the other services picked it up. i just penned the initial verses up to Vietnam. I am glad some have added to it for the recent wars. The first verse says it all, as does the chorus. God bless the American servicemen and women who goes to war.
+bullstriker1992 i just wrote this as I went thru basic, and then Tech School. Good T.I.'s and good "Ropes" as they called the leaders in schools. Red Rope was a Squadron Leader, Yellow Rope was Flight leader. I wrote it, as a cadence, for a long march and we had many others, to take the stress off a long march. It was 1966. If the TI was good, all we had to do at the start of a march, was Raise a hand, and call cadence, once we had the left, right left down in marching in basic. The first time it was heard, my Commander insisted we use it, after we finished basic training at Lackland AFB. I took it to my school at Shepperd AFB. I guess it was picked up by other services. I never copyrighted it or wrote a title. It was just something I felt about war. We had a lot of very strong feelings for the Vietnam war. We did not kid ourselves, we knew we would be assigned to the war zone after training. I lost many of the friends I grew up with in SEA. It is the basic understanding of who we are when we enlist, and write the check to serve our country.

He - "Behold the Breath"
Vav - "Behold The NAIL"
Same, this guy is real talented. Wonder how hard it'd be to track him down and get him to do an album hahaha
"Road guards, post!"
I was always a road guard during my NAVY bootcamp because I was one of the tallest in my division and everything we did involved the Height Line system.
I was the tallest guy in my Navy Boot Camp Company. Sixth Squad Leader, which put me in charge of the outside clothes line in the dead of Winter at Great Lakes Naval Station. A thankless job that totally sucked!
That voice is soo memorizing.
I'll never forget the road crossing back to Charlie after a good meal. Clear left and right Tangos, fly on!
This is brings back pleasant memories.
Indeed
Road guard - Post!
Ah, nostalgia. Takes me back to my youth. I like the cadence and he's good, no doubt. Dunno about the best, though.
The soul of the Army is passed down in its marching cadences.
It's Up there . ..

YaH The Heavenly FATHER HIMSELF was Who they Crucified for our sins and “HERE IS THE PROOF”
From the Ancient Semitic Scroll:
"Yad He Vav He" is what Moses wrote, when Moses asked YaH His Name (Exodus 3)

Yad - "Behold The Hand"
He - "Behold the Breath"
Vav - "Behold The NAIL"
i wrote this in 1966.
+Eve Stewart how did you name this song ? Can I find it somewhere to listen it to sung like that ?
+bullstriker1992
i just wrote this as I went thru basic, and then Tech School. Good T.I.'s
and good "Ropes" as they called the leaders in schools.
Red Rope was a Squadron Leader, Yellow Rope was Flight leader.
I wrote it, as a cadence, for a long march and we had many others, to
take the stress off a long march.
It is the basic understanding of who we are when we enlist, and write the
check to serve our country.
God bless the USA! Thank you for serving!
I remember that day. We were on our way to class. AIT Ft Eustis, VA 2008 baby!!!!!
They're calling cadence like their trying to get a freaking record deal
Maybe. But bet they are enroute to the chowhall.

This is what Cadence is all about. Perfect Rhythm and Clarity that keeps all the Solders nicely in step. Good to see and NCO doing it right.

good cadence calling DS was literally the only thing that kept me from blowing my brains out in basic.

The Marines have long been my favorite branch of the armed forces, but this is a pretty empowering cadence.
Good memories on that road. Long live 1/222nd AVN!
I'm agoraphobic & when I need to get out of the house I listen to this over & over. It has been a godsend. Thank you for this

This was posted about a month after I graduated. Dover was a hard man but do what you were told and you didn't suffer his wrath. Mad respect. Got out in 2012 and working with my A&P at Gulfstream in Savannah.
This description made me do a double take...my dad, SFC Dover, retired in 1990.
