Not gonna lie this feels like a breath of fresh air takes me back to when you where doin the brzs nothing crazy just a nice simple rebuild (as a simple as a rebuild can be)
next episode: "I'm gas turbine swapping my WRX!"
For real! Lamborghinis are nice but this is just fun to watch. Hopefully he doesn’t engine swap it, cause the Subaru rumble is a1
I actually agree
Relatable builds are always welcomed 🍻
came to write exactly this
I would drain the engine, differential(s), transmission and anything that may retain water. Change brakes and flush all fluids. Congratulations on your purchase! Look forward to hearing more about the STI. Best wishes and Peace out!
The wiring will be a beast
Mechanical is easy to sort out. I would be more afraid of all the electrical problems down the road.

Take the door panels off, you'll find the real flood line.
Arturo Galindo if it was flooded in Texas there is no flood line, it's completely covered I know I lived in San Antonio for 15 years it's starts at a couple inches turns into five or six feet in 10 minutes
@@spankthemonkey3437 it's not that bad not calling you out but I lived in Houston during harvey it really depends where you live 😂

For the oil to look like that the car would have been running when it flooded or it could of had a blown head gasket before the flood. I would imagine that the rod bearing would’ve spun if it was running when it flooded, I would recommend doing a rebuild or swap. If all the electronics were working then I think it was a blown head gasket then sat in flood water to claim insurance.
Blown head gaskets are really common on these
Yeah these guys dont really fix cars they just do enough to sell them and make money on youtube
Ryce Yanez yeah I’m thinking that too, blown head gasket and engine pulled apart sitting in the garage when the flood happened
Also looks like the car was tuned and has TGV deletes on it so take good inventory on all the parts you have because the car won’t run right without a correct tune for the aftermarket parts or put everything back to stock and it should work fine. If you need to change the ECU you might have to pair the immobilizer to the ECU.
Owns a Aston, two lambo’s and still no heat or a lift lol

looks like head gaskets blown and the owner used drove it into floods just a little as in excuse to get it fixed or written off.
Smart guy
Or simple hydrolocked with those open pod filter..boosting in flood...
Wont happen that easy if it still have oem air intake box fully intact
Exactly sometimes you find some nice salvaged cars at auction that you think how in the -$;& is that totaled when its easily repairable
Because the insurance company is the biggest racket around. That's the entire reason people purposely "accidentally" damage a new car they are behind in the lease on so they can get their money back. I've seen cars declared totaled out because of some panel dents and a few scratches. Because they tell you in order to fix a dent or a scratch you have to remove and replace the entire panel and repaint it, at the dealer, at OEM prices, with OEM labor charges.

@@MidwestDankAlumni no they arent lol if they were toyotas it would have the inline 4
I feel like there are some pretty obvious things overlooked when assessing the history of the car. The SCCA sticker on the back driver's side window is a good hint the car has been used for racing. This is reinforced by the aftermarket aluminum radiator and the Mishimoto radiator cap. Others have already pointed out the milky oil could be a head gasket issue which is probably a decent guess considering the water level was not high enough to flood the engine.
Regardless, save yourself a step and rip out the engine and start a rebuild. As you mentioned, Subaru parts are really easy to find and replace in Portland. Lots of places will sell you a rebuilt EJ for under $2K.
This will be a fun build to watch. Partner with some of the local Subaru Performance companies like Perrin or Nameless and make a beast.
also the offset turbo inlet coupler, means it had a hard pipe inlet. (which you need to pull the intake to get out)
I agree with you and it kinda makes me mad when CZcamsrs who do this as a career blindly overpay in bidding wars against people who just want a car to build themsleves for a good deal. Outa respect to keep prices low he should at least do his research. I'm sure it'll be a sweet build just don't like all them raising all bidding prices on cars we all would love to build as our only toys not fleet of exotics. Means nothing to over pay for him for totalled vehicles but isn't helping everyone else bidding against people like him.
I wonder if the car was flooded while it was being worked on....
Benjamin Wells the rear windows look like they could have had the carbon slip in vents that a lot of the subie guys love. Previous owner probably just yanked them out and left the windows down that far.
I saw the SCCA sticker and my first thought was Autocross.
This is looking good so far.. looking forward to this build with you guys
Hey chris, I have a little trick we use to do for flooded pwcs. It worked every time. Of course it’s no 100% for longevity but we never had an issue. Drain oil and replace with diesel fuel. Run at idle for a few minutes. Drain. Do that again till milkshake is gone. Then start replacing it with cheap oil, then good oil. Trust me, brought back a lot of pwcs doing that. Even took one apart afterwards to see and the diesel cleaned everything
I have waited my whole life for this.. lol

@@TylerDuysen same
Nah it will be a car frozen in a lake 😂
The Dodge ram from twister
The engine is easy to turn because it doesn't have compression. It's likely that it hydrolocked and pushed water out the valves that are rusty. Water got into the engine through the exhaust system and into the oil by getting past the piston rings. I've seen this exact thing before. I'd recommend a compression test before doing anything else with it.
I'm really enjoying the change of pace with this build, I look forward to seeing how it turns out!
If there is water in the engine, its from the hoodscoop letting rain water in with the intake manifold being removed.
I'd tear the motor down to at least the short block. It's too easy to do and could prevent further damage caused from trying to crank it.
I’d rebuild all the engine, its the best way to solve problems
@@JonHowes1 If that were the case there wouldn't be as much water in the oil nor would there be corrosion in only those two valves and nowhere else. It also wouldn't explain the low compression.
If he had aftermarket parts in, he probably had a Cobb accessport and aftermarket or cobb factory tune. If the owner had no chance to reflash you may be rebuilding a vehicle on a tune, so the ECU may be flashed. Somthing to take into account.
T B because the fans were cycling, there’s also a high chance that the previous owner was able to unmarry the ECU and accessport.
@@robnorthem7723 well either way, this guy know what he's doin. Hopefully it all goes smooth for the rebuild.

finally some content im excited about from you, i stopped watching when you were playing with exotics cause thats not my thing, i dont care about them. But subaru's ohhh boyyyy i love me some blown headgaskets and ring land
Blown head gaskets are less common on turbo EJ engines.
Ting Lee Not when people modify the engine 😂
Carl Strandberg literally any engine has the chance of blowing a head gasket. It’s not exclusive to Subaru.
Just ej25 things
Dont forget blown rod bearings on the fa20. And theres a recall for the valve springs. Oh and the throw out bearings go out very early on. Oh subaru...

You got a great deal dude. Just the BBS stocker wheels are an easy $1000. I had a 04' STI. Worst case scenario you get a used EJ257
Wheels, tires, the big brake kit, body kit, STI seats, STI trans, STI diffs, he'd make a killing if he parted it out. But definitely cooler to rebuild it.

Why are you saying that,it's performance car,not base model ??
B is for Blown Headgasket 😜😂
not on turbo EJs
Dude I bought a little outback like 6 months ago. Great little go cart of a car. But the fucking head was blown in a way that was pushing exhaust into the radiator system and making it puke it all out. The car was a 4 banger automatic with like 300,xxx miles on it so not worth the rebuild. Sold it off for like $800 to the next guy to wash my hands of it.
Beat me to it😂
N/A EJ's have head gasket issues, non of the turbo models do.
Cosigner22 turbos blows headgaskets, NAs blows headgaskets, H6s blows headgaskets they all blow headgaskets
Really excited for this build. Since a young teen I have always wanted one of these.

Pull the spark plugs, flush cylinders with a water hose to remove mud/dirt. You will not harm the engine parts with clean fresh water. Drain sump of all oil/water mix. Then fill the engine sump and cylinders completely with diesel and let it sit for a day before draining (refit spark plugs before filling) . When you see what comes out you'll know if it can start. You can also use compressed air in dipstick hole to empty it completely of all diesel residue before changing oil filter and filling with oil. Best wishes to you and your new sti.
