As the weather warms up, we’re looking forward to some summer adventures. Check out our Jeep kitchen that keeps us well fed while on the road.
Thank you. Your camp kitchen is so well thought out and organized. Practical. Simple. Inspiring! Yes, I'd love to see your summer camping trips.
(...love your channel and family values.) Concerning additional storage...we installed a trailer hitch and that opened up a world of extra storage from a cargo rack that you can attach and or bike racks etc. It really opened up a lot of additional storage options. Thanks again for producing all your videos and really engaging the CZcams community in a very family based loving environment!
We so appreciate the encouragement! I've been looking at adding a hitch for those add-ons you mentioned. Unfortunately, the Jeep project is a never-ending money pit.
We just returned from the Overland Expo West in Arizona (a yearly event where you see all sorts of camping ideas), and we got to use our dual Dometic fridge and freezer - Love it. My husband built our trailer himself from drawings that he sourced. The interior is not done yet, so we really only had a camper shell and a mattress, and we are now planning our kitchen space, and you have gave me some great ideas. Thank you for sharing.
I would love to make it down to Flagstaff one year! It must have been like a dreamland lol. We can never go back to camping without a fridge. That's so cool that your husband built a trailer.
Fantastic setup you two.
After the loss of my hubby ,I downsized our big rig rv for a solo camper van the size of your jeep .
It had everything in it ,even a porta loo,but no bathroom, and a sink ,gas burner x fold out bed with a soft top lift up roof gave me weeks of happy camping.
So know it can be done.
Thanks for great memories of those days ❤
I send you all good health to enjoy your days out, best wishes 👍as usual top class vlog☺
Sounds like an ideal setup! Thanks for watching and your kind words!!
This setup is so cool! Nice & organized! Love the sliding fridge n the trailgater!! Never seen a scottle... Interesting! Gotta watch more vids to see how it's used!
Ur kids seemed pretty comfy on the trip too!
You guys are so checked! Really impressive. Kim and I have the 2 door soft top version and pull our 2017 E-Pro 14fk camper with our labrador and love it. Especially when we do our Food Review tours. You've definitely opened our eyes to some new ideas. Oh, also enjoy your cooking shows :) Best wishes, Kim & James (Treasure Hunt Traveler's)
The CABINET, the SLIDER for the fridge, the FRIDGE, COUNTER on door, NESTING BINS and TUBS per need, are f a n t a s t i c !!! But the TRASHAROO just takes it over the top! CONGRATULATIONS on being the best equipped campers on the road! HAPPY TRAVELS! : )
The Trasharoo has been surprisingly useful. Compared to a lot of "Overland" setups, ours is primitive (and a lot cheaper). However, we've enjoyed the utility of our setup.
Preparations makes great campvacations...very nice set up thanks.
What great timing you have. I was trying to explain to my husband a couple of weeks ago, how you had the Jeep packed up with everything you would need for camping across Canada. Now I can show him exactly what I was so impressed with that I wanted him to see. I think you thought of everything.
Glad the timing of the video worked out! With camping gear, there's always more to buy 😉
I took the family camping in my 1976 Dodge Aspen station wagon many years ago. Now inspired to repeat the experience but with a more up to date vehicle. Thank you for this.
Car camping life and available gear makes it almost luxurious now
Great camp setup! We’ve been campers for 47 years & I have to say this is THE best use of space I’ve seen to date😀! Thanks for sharing & God bless your amazing lovely family🙏🏼❣️
What a compliment, thank you!!
Ditto what Dude said! We are by no means “seasoned” campers. Thanks so much!
this was worth the watch just for the intro. *chucks ball* "FWAHH!"
It was a satisfying throw and catch. And for the record, it was “PP-WUAHH!”
Great channel. Great ideas... gives me more thoughts for my Jeep overlanding.
I've never seen a fridge like the one in this video and I'm very interested in it. Thanks for including the link to the fridge. I can't wait to see your camping videos for this summer. Oh and that Aeropress looks pretty awesome also. Great video.
Thanks, David! My 2 favourite road trip accessories!
Good morning Flo, awesome camping video boy how i missed those days, have a wonderful trip!
We're not headed out yet 😀 but thanks regardless! Thanks for watching!
Excellent camping setup !
I would always take a portable retractable clothesline and clothespins. Clothespins also double to secure open bags.
That setup is cool! Literally 🤣🤣 I like that Dometic fridge/cooler. Super handy! I love the trailgate. The aero press. Lol! Must have coffee! I bring my airstream camping. Lol! That’s roughing it for me. Haha. I’m sending your video to my son in law. He’s a big Jeep dude. That would be a great set up for his family.
cool...#iseewhatyoudidthere 😊 Ahh...Airstream roughing it. Sounds like torture 😉
Wow, you guys have a nice setup, Mahalo for sharing!
I loved your vlog from last year's trip across Canada. I watched everyday. You guys are so innovative! Have fun on your camping trip and stay safe. You guys make me want to camping but it's already too hot down here in Texas. I need to visit Canada. Love y'all, Lisa :D
!
Some amazing camping not far from you in Utah & Arizona! We went several years ago and what I loved most was NO bugs!
What an awesome set up! Thanks for sharing!
neat set up, gives us ideas for our rig.
Thank you for the great tips!
Super cool! Check out “tailgater tire table” I just bought one and haven’t used it yet. Also anker powercore powerbanks are sooooo tight!
How do you keep it all clean? Love ❤️ the channel and the thoroughness
Great ideas and products
This was a great video and so helpful
All of the items you have there are necessary when preparing to go camping. I have similar items and even more, but hope not to have to use them though. You all are ready to go camping in your Jeep and that is a nice travel vehicle to go anywhere in.
Safe and happy trip Flo Lum Family:) Much fun and adventure;)
Not headed anywhere yet but thanks!! 😃
Wow. That was so helpful
great setup,, cant wait for my Canada trip and was that Ron Jeremy @0:30
Hi Flo 😊love your channel a lot. There is a trick to clean plastic, instead of sponge, use a piece of paper towel with dish washer soap to clean. Try it.
Thanks, Rachel! Will keep that in mind!
One of the first couples I've seen that uses an Aeropress, I use mine fishing a lot.
I love your setup. My husband and I are buying a jeep in a few weeks and we're already planning our camping setup. I'm paying a lot of attention to the kitchen portion aha.
The kitchen is the MOST important part!
We bought a harbor freight 4x8 trailer. 249.00 on sale. Built it myself and added some side rails. Drilled and threaded the hitch =no rattling or bucking trailer. It frees up a ton of space in the car when going camping.
Sounds awesome!
Excellent!!!
Nice Jeep ... I want to get a used JKU 2013+ ... this is a good setup.
Thanks! It's a work-in-progress. The mods are never done...
I would love to go camping with the lums sometime! haha. I would be so well fed. hahaha.
LOL! That’s for sure! 😉
coolest tip I got just last year (never thought of it DUH) store your zip locks IN a ziplock bag, throw away the box, and use a BIG 1 gallon to hold them all...... doesn't seem like much but its more space in your chow box....
We have a Jeep too!! I love your kitchen, genius!!! Where did you get tailgait counter!! And the cooler??
Thanks! The fridge link is in the description and the trailgater was purchased through Rebel Off-road.
Awesome
Wow great setup. You forgot the mortar and pestle and sushi mat.
Our family love camping. May i ask Where did get your mini fridge and coffee maker?
Great video!!! You mentioned Newfoundland. Are you guys from Canada? We are in Winnipeg.
Lots of good info in your vid and I subscribed. Planning my retirement down the road and am learning lots about living on the road!
Thank you! Yes, we are Canadian and we travelled across the country last summer. Love being on the road. Here are our vlogs, if interested: czcams.com/play/PL0O1SCoxqo0Ujxlf4idzzoqKLJodDHMDk.html
Have fun
Looking forward to a summer of adventures!
Love the jeep cooking set-up...Do you have dimensions available for the fridge and bin storage. I would love to build for my jeep. Much appreciated and thanks for all the great info!
Dude doesn’t know all the dimensions. It’s best to check out the Amazon listing for specs and our set up has changed this year. I wouldn’t rely on Dude anyway. 😉
Nice 👌 👋
Excellent video, thank you. What type of water filtration system do you recommend? My son is going to college and a filtered water pitcher is important.
I’ve been using the Norwex water filtration system. It uses magnesium tech so adds it into the water which is supposed to be good for you. I also like the taste of the water, clean and almost sweet, no matter where we’ve used it. If you are in Canada, you can purchase directly from me at flolum.norwex.biz. Thanks!
If by camping, you mean my hotel room balcony overlooks the forest, I like to bring comfy pjs, slippers, and a good book. 😁
That sounds like my preferred glamp life 😌
Flo Lum, I camp vicariously through you guys!
Awesome vid. To poke a little fun at you though. Coast to coast; Van to Nfld. I think you forgot Vancouver Island. so I guess you will need to rectify that. LOL. On a more serious note, ref your trash a roo. with rash in there isnt there concerns ref bears etc? I use a 5 gallon pail with a sealed lid and then that can stay secured inside the jeep. Again, nice vid. Ciao
Ha! We’ve been to the island many times in our lives; there was no need to start there. 😉 Trash, mainly to get it out from wherever we are to drop off in a bin and not have to have it in the Jeep at all.
Greetings from Athens Greece!
Nice rig and set up even if I' m a Toyota fan! 🙂
Any link for the counter on your door please?
Thanks! We got the Trailgater from Rebel Offroad.
Where’d you get the music for the beginning of this vid? Sounds like Vince Guaraldi on the keys
whats the brand of the knife safe holder for the blade on your santuko?
Ok. Nice vid but what’s a SKUTTLE? Have no idea nor have not heard of one. And didn’t notice a reference below. Why is it handy to have?
I didn't see a link for the trail gater
Great video. What is your sleeping arrangement? Rooftop tent?
No rooftop tent... yet... We still sleep in a regular ground tent. 😩
We have a 40 foot RV so that’s what I like to bring. 😏 But, when I saw the episodes with the skottle I began to seriously think about getting that to take on the road too because RV stovetops tend to be less useful due to space on the burners. If y’all had an RV, do you think you would still wish to have the skottle?
Wow. I could get used to RV life ☺️ As for the Skottle, it's quite a bit different from cooking on any stovetop. Being able to grill and fry on a large surface is pretty nice to have. Also, cooking on the skottle would keep the food smells out of your RV living space. Just saying 😷
Dude, that’s true about the smell. I had not been able to justify the cost as of yet but now I can thanks to you. I can tell cooking on the skottle would be a learning curve indeed. Perhaps you and Flo wouldn’t mind doing a few recipes/episodes focused solely on learning to use it? I watched your travel episodes and loved what I saw made on it on those. I’d be ever grateful for a few tutorials.
I quite enjoy the skottle. We use it a home instead of a grill. Way more surface area to cook on compared to our camping stove and I also find it heats up way faster than the pots.
Oh and yes. RV life is a sweet way to travel. You can rent them so if you want to try it that might be an option.
Flo, now I’m super interested in getting one. If I order one, would you show me/us how to use and care for one?
Great Video. . . thanks!! I have seen many of these fridge's online but I just can't get my arms wrapped around the idea . . . If I go up into the mountains and park for a week how will it keep my food cold. . . would I need extra battery (s) . . . solar panels? assuming it would run down the car battery. . please help me understand.
The fridge is very efficient but it's still a draw from your battery. I have a deep-cycle AGM battery that will allow for up to 3 days of fridge operation. Any more than that, you'll need solar or run the engine to top it off.
@@dudelum, Thanks!!!!
Do you know how many AH or Amp Hours your battery is to get the three days?
Love everything you have presented here, camping something from the 1970's for me interesting and worth while if you are into it. Skills more people should have if needed and if you would like to explore. Choice of automobile for this life style is less then good. Jeep? No. Just the way I feel about this automobile.
Do you have any more videos on using the skuttle? Would I still need to lug the Coleman for my son's pancakes?
You can see more skottle recipes on my skottle recipes playlist. The skottle is not completely flat in the middle. I have not tried making pancakes on it. I still use my frying pan on the camp stove. I will give it a try this summer.
Flo Lum thanks for the reply. I should have looked before asking. I was excited about learning more about it. Please let me know if you try pancakes in it! They are a staple food for my son. 😊
where did u buy your plate?
You had me at chopsticks at :20. Ha ha. I am wondering if you think that a Coleman stove could be used on that tailgate tray or would it be too close to the interior of the Jeep in terms of splash and smoke.
We use our Coleman stove on it all the time. No issues.
Flo Lum Great. Thank you!
Really interested in a fridge, do you have the 35 or the 40 quart? Also do you leave it on when your not using it? I was thinking about a second battery set up for it.
Ted Jackson it's the cfx-35 which I believe refers to the capacity in litres. According to the product description, it's 34 quart. We currently run a single battery setup. I'm looking at a larger group 34 deep cycle upgrade.
Thanks Dude!
Hi Flo,
What kind of knifes are you using? I particularly love the wide knife you're using :)
Thanks! It’s either the 8” chef’s knife geni.us/Wusthof8inch
Or the 7” Santoku geni.us/WusthofSantoku
Thanks millions ❤
I love your videos...I can feel and sense your joy.
Blessings
The skottel is from South Africa. They call it a "skottel braai" and a "braai" is a grill. Skottel is Afrikaans (in modern Dutch it is "schotel") for a large dish, i.e. exactly like the shape.
Thanks for the info!
Is more jeeping videos on the way
Which dollar store did you get the wash buckets and dish rack and lid from?
Daiso!
Dearest Flo. Ive officially given you the title of " Queen of instapot "
What was that cooking thing a gas wok? you only showed it for a couple of seconds. I’d like to see that being used
It’s called a skottle. Check out our skottle recipes on the channel.
Cannot find the tailgate fold down table. CAn you help? I searched "trail gater".....................no luck
Look for "Trailgater", it's made by Outback Adventure Products
🔥🔥🔥 Nobody smokes anymore. What do you take with you to start fires? 🔥🔥🔥
Loved your Canada trip series! I was wondering about the fridge power source. Do you have it connected to the car battery, and if so, does that mean the power goes out when you turn off Archie?
The fridge is directly connected to the main battery, so it's always on unless I turn off the fridge. Hope that helps!
Did you disconnect when you were staying at the college? Do you bring a battery backup? I would be nervous about not being able to start the car all because of a drained battery.
The fridge is on 24/7. While we were on the road, we were never in one place for more than 12 hours without starting the Jeep. We have a compact Lithium ion jump starter that's worked very well. Also, when the fridge is packed full, it doesn't work as hard to maintain target temperature. Modern 12v fridges have built-in electronics that will turn the fridge off before draining the starter battery.
Thank you so much!
What kind of cooler/freezer is that
Https://geni.us/Dometic
How did you get the trailgater into Canada? I haven't found a site that will ship here
I ordered it from a US supplier and had it shipped just across the border. I think Epic Adventure Outfitters in Surrey BC started carrying the Trailgaters locally.
@@dudelum thanks dude
Oops. My bad. Just found your reference. Mongolian bbq? 🤣
Who makes the tailgate table?
Outback Adventure Products
Where did you get the trailgater?
At a local aftermarket offload accessory shop.
I am a New Uorker , I hate bugs and tents are out the question , I need a 5star hotel with mints on the pillows
Hippies!
What is the size of the fridge? Thanx!
34 Quarts. Link to the fridge details in the description.
DudeLum THANK YOU for the fast reply. Size appears perfect for the Jeep JK setup as it still leaves plenty of room above the fridge to store items.
You're welcome! The fridge capacity worked for our family of 4 on our long road trip. I'll be filming a walk around of our JKU shortly, covering mods and upgrades.
I'm to old to tent camp anymore.
I'm a cabin guy now
Cabin life is great too!
Flo, this is VERY nit-picky, but you called your vegetable peeler a potato peeler. It is a handy device for peeling things like carrots and cucumbers, but potatoes are meant to be enjoyed along with their skin, because the skin is where the flavor comes from. If you'll stop peeling potatoes altogether and simply scrub them before use, you won't regret it. If you 'absolutely must have' mashed potatoes, then roughly mash the cooked, unpeeled potatoes with your fork, on your plate.
I'll forgive you for being nit-picky because you gave me a good laugh in a comment in another video. 😉 I grew up with it being called a potato peeler, but you're right... I usually keep the skin on my potatoes too and use the "vegetable" peeler only for carrots and yams.
Thank you Flo, for being tolerant and forgiving, and also for sharing that you're a fan of unpeeled potatoes. Your CZcams channel presentations are entertaining, informative and delightful!
How did you keep your battery charged while you had the fridge running? Dual battery?
So far, we haven't been at a camp site for more than 24hrs without driving the Jeep. Hence not needing a dual battery setup...yet. The starter battery is showing some weakness, so I'm currently looking at a dual battery setup or a single larger, deep-cycle AGM battery, like the Odyssey Extreme Group 34
@@dudelum Hey Dude, did you ever pull the trigger on the dual battery (or single larger) setup?
I picked up an Odyssey Extreme battery! I talk about it in this video: czcams.com/video/2AXjQsqAxU8/video.html
Tailgate folding table $348.00 ya...Gonna pass on that. I know why that was not on the list items you listed. There are many other products the same far less cheaper, And they don't rattle.
If you haven’t seen this already, check out Trail Recon’s LED light strip for the rear hatch...pretty cool and pretty cheap and easy mod that may prove really helpful. czcams.com/video/P2RI8fl0a5I/video.html
i feel like this was a reupload of an older video where you guys did the cooking disk video
Why didnt you use paper plates? More convenient to just throw away and not have to deal with washing dishes.
Because trying to be better citizens of earth.
All that preparation and organisation but you have the largest bottle of ketchup and it's almost empty? 🤨😁
It was driving me nuts. Your face, your voice, your speech cadence and expressions. I was like...I've seen this person...who is she? But no, it's just that you are a twin of Lan from America's Test Kitchen.
🤣 I’ve had several viewers who have asked if I was her.
its a good presentation and I learned a lot of useful info. I just want to give a little constructive critique... IMHO, try to refrain from using the word "my" with every item you describe or present. it's actually redundant because each item is obviously yours, so there really isn't any reason to keep saying "my" with each one... again, take this constructively... no offense meant. Keep up the good work!
That counter is way too low
Where did you get the trailgater?
I ordered it from Rebel Offroad
