    Dr Bhatti recommends scheduling breaks in advance. He proposes stopping the medication every three months for a period of two weeks. It is a different approach than Vikram and Knudsen, but I believe that taking this precaution is harmless for those who are not affected by the build up and at the same time is preventive for those who are going to be affected by the build up.

    Dear doctors! I wanted to thank you for bringing the field forward so willingly. Your discussions are quite valuable. As top pioneers however, I believe you may want to address the Post Finasteride Syndrome that's increasingly receiving academic attention and the potential innovations in the field that should be studied - meaning new/other advanced solutions to replace finasteride. Isn't it weird that we're using something that was primarily designed to fight prostate cancer? Can't we create the same effect in a more targeted manner?

    • @Skareremakes
      @Skareremakes Před 3 lety +5

      It hasn't been receiving any academic attention. It's been on hair loss forums since 2009 (the oldest posts I've ever found). Just like new advancements for hair loss medication, studies for PFS are something coming in near future. So like in over 10 years, do you think nothing would be found about an issue so big. Also tell me one thing why is it propeciahelp and not proscarhelp even though proscar has been around for a longer duration?

    • @downo
      @downo Před 3 lety +4

      @@Skareremakes, not sure whether you are an academician or not, but I do have to disagree based on easy-to-find findings. To me it seems there are hundreds of emerging studies about what the side effects of finasteride - and quite honestly, there will always be considering what a sizeable issue this is.
      Also you seem to have mistaken my comment: namely, I never suggested whether I think PSF is an accurate representation of finasteride as a hair-solution. Instead, I press to importance how much of a major concern it is. We must ensure clinical research is committed to PFS to make treatments healthier.
      Also, I am not able to answer your question because I lack information concerning propeciahelp and due to both of them being used in different dosages over different schemes and treatments for distinct treatments. In fact, I do believe you have a full disbelief to the potential side effects of both medications we've talked about and I can only think that this is not a healthy approach to finding a more solid key.
      Are you an active user of finasteride? Do you claim it is too safe to even have scientific discussions over? Curious!

      @@downo my man. I do believe in side effects. I got severe ed from finasteride use within 3 months but they went away within. Month of discontinuation. Sides are very much real and are always due to hormonal imbalance. Estrogen being high and testosterone being low (simplified explanation) what I find hard to believe is how PFS is a thing. If the patient starts to loose hair after discontinuing then he should also be working completely fine as the effect of drug is over. I don’t disregard pfs in any way for sure. I sympathise and pray for them. But to your comment I just meant to say no big scale reputable studies are being done on pfs. Only studies are being done are by pfs foundation and propeciahelp, which the medical community disregards always as their is always biased towards their agenda.

    I quit Fin for about 3-5 months to switch to a more natural treatment - saw palmetto and rosemary essential oil. For a time, it actually looked like my hair was improving, then it all came crashing down. I now have noticeable thinning on the top of my head with excessive hairloss after showering.
    Restarted Fin about a month ago along with minoxidil and Nizoral shampoo and felt stubble on my scalp.
    But it’s difficult to tell if it was due to miniaturization, or if it’s new hair growing in. Time will tell.
    It’s stabilized again, lesser hair loss with no progression of balding. Goal is to stop progression of hair loss and hopefully regain some, if not all, of what I lost.

    If you take finastride and then stop, I understand that you'll lose new hair you've grown, but what will it do to the thinning hair you started with before starting finastride that it helped to strengthen? Like I have some hairs that had been thinning/getting weaker before I started taking it. Will they revert back to their normal weaker state or will I lose them all together? Basically I don't want to come off finastride and end up with less hair than when I started.

    You say the half life is 28 days... is that of the drug itself or of the inhibitory effects of Finasteride on 5-AR? Many sources claim the drug has a half life of between 5-8 hours which prompts the reasoning for daily dosing.

      Don't take finasteride if you want to concieve, personally I waited untill I had all the children I wanted before starting. If your already on it then speak to your prescriber they have a duty to help or speak to your doctor.
      You do not want to concieve a boy while on finasteride, it can really mess with them. You should stop taking it for a couple months (but check with a doctor) then concieve and get back on it once your partner is pregnant.

    Thank you very much for valuable information.I've started using finasteride and minoxidil a while ago. I could start only with finasteride but I've lots of miniaturized hair around and I wasn't sure if finasteride by itself would be sufficient to make them thicker again. My question is: Hopefully once my hair loss gets stable, can I quit minoxidil and continue with finasteride only? Would it cause to loose my previous gains from minoxidil? Thanks.

I heard some people telling this, but it doesn't sound logical to me when I think about the mechanism of finasteride and minoxidil. What would cause the loss if I already eliminated the root cause of hair loss ? Addiction maybe? Let's say a non-androgenic alopecia sufferer used minoxidil to get his hair back. Will he also loose the gains once he quits using it? I've searched for it but couldn't find any information.

      @@mray3308 late response, however: minoxidil works interely different than finasteride. The hair gained from minoxidil is a result from the increase in growth factors, such as blood circulation, to the scalp. Once you quit taking it, since the conditions for extraordinary growth are no longer present, hair gained from it will fall out and not return, regardless of DHT levels
