Hasan is completely right but debate bros aren't bad. Being "right" doesn't really mean anything to your average person who doesn't have the time or energy to interpret numbers, read up on history, or listen to both sides of an argument. Thats why debate bros try to condense ideas into entertaining soundbites for their audience. That's why we turn numbers into charts, turn speeches into soundbites, and turn manifestos into slogans.
I always wondered why leftist types are the only people who are actively scared of debate (and playing politics) or debate bros when virtually every other ideology loves their little e-celebs and slimy political figures. It's like they love being a niche ideology with little actual support.

Overtime I've come to understand how fucking stupid Vaush was not because all of his ideas are cracked but because of how terribly he explained himself and how he genuinely believed he was this perfect leftist with godlike debate skill when in reality in order to defend him, you have to spend literal hours of sifting through extremely poorly put together arguments and even when I had tried find what he was trying to say, I just got fed up with him constantly being lazy.
His behaviour after the Professor Flowers debate also annoyed me because he continued to smear her despite it being very obvious that Flowers was trying to talk about resistance against apartheid and imperial powers and Vaush was talking about Autocratic Grifting and violence in Africa. Not realising that he and her were talking about resisting the same fucking thing.
Vaush just has this amazing talent of talking to someone who should logically agree with him in nearly every point and becoming the worst enemy and categorically misunderstanding every point to the point you begin to question if this Mfer is doing it on purpose. Gamergate and the alt right and what have you (yes faaaaar worse than now). But breadtuber essayists and a certain debate streamer came along and I swear everything shifted. A particular debate against Sargon of Akkad and a particular video essay about alt right fascism signaled a big change. Nobody who watched that would care. They would just say their guy “won” - Hasan talks to plenty of people who disagree with him, he just doesn’t want the contention of a “debate”

@Icynova Who did he talk to? The latest, most prominent one i can think of is the Piers Morgan one.

I think Hasan said he would to open to talking to Ben Shapiro multiple times. So did Sam Seder from Majority Report. Yet the entire Intellectual Dark Web keeps ducking them.

I have a hard time with Hasans perspective here. Isn’t a commentator just a debator who isn’t challenged? Hasan is presenting or reacting to news from a particular angle with the goal of convincing masses to his side.
Just because he doesn’t have an opponent on the other end doesn’t make him demonstrably distinguishable from the people he’s critiquing.

to me there isn't an issue because well the goal qould be to develop his point without debating semantics and personnal attacks to break tgmhe chain of thought. He is open about his opinions and biaises (as far as i know). So instead of meaningless debates you have someone at least attempting to develop his point of view and his opinions. It doesn't make him right or wrong but you can judge the value based on the ideas shared rather than on who talked louder, faster and used more 4 syllable words.

This is a prime example of a debate bro smooth brain. You're playing semantics instead of actually addressing the point Hassan made

A Debate is just BS because people can lie and mislead as long as they keep straight face, without being stop right at their tracks to be called out by the the moderator and scolded or deducted points for it, in fact the moderator 99% knows shit about the topic so you can BS your way as long as you look confident, is a sport a game of deceit and argumentation that doesn't have to be attached to the truth.
