    Music is life, and Mahler's music is the very seed of life. Thank you for this performance full of life.

    52:32 Good performance. Not sure if i like the editing, but I was so happy to see there was a close up of the snare drum's only bar in the piece. Even though the music is ferocious that brief moment always puts a smile on my face.

    The ending is like a persons last moments on earth before passing away. So peaceful and beautiful.

    Grandios.

    Oh, Gustav's marvelous wonderful world. It seems that after it few people created the same large-scale world of music at 1 o'clock

    Who knows where Mahler would have gone if he had lived past 50? He was already halfway there.

    Brilliant symphony, especially the adagio...pity about the camera blackouts though...what was that supposed to mean? The WDR is one of the most improved orchestras around!

      In the original TV broadcast of this concert, images were shown in between, for which no online rights are available. So, unfortunately we had to cut out these parts.

      That is Camilla Kjøll. At the time she was concertmaster of the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester and helped at this concert.

      If she is the concert master of a big-league orchestra, she will get the solos. and play them well.

    At 1:04:49 Saraste has decided to go twice the speed. The score clearly say "stets gehalten".

    • @remomazzetti8757
      @remomazzetti8757 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Unfortunately many conductors speed up here which is the exact opposite of what Mahler intended. Bernstein does the same thing, especially in his late recording with the Concertgebow orchestra. Try Abbado's Lucerne version to hear the passage done correctly. And most conductors play the last page faster than the rest of the movement which makes hash of Mahler's marking of Adagissimo.

      @@remomazzetti8757 Cheers. Off the top of my head, Bertini and Dorati are ok on this point.

    Too many fade to black during the piece. Otherwise very fine playing, a super reading of Mahler’s ninth. Also, many seconds, adding to minutes on poor closeups. Never saw conductor full length, or did I miss that? Worth another look and listen.
