You're aware that current Matchless amps are built the same as the "Sampson Era" ones, right? In fact, design improvements have been implemented, making them better is some respects. Now you know.
They are close but not the same. Mid-range sits in a different spot and Vox has a touch more grit in the mids to me. Also a completely different league when it comes to reliability.

Sounds like a modified Fender bassman. Just like nearly every other guitar amp.
