IS-2 is a good value and should be in many lists as black box support. Strong FA, that TA2 that is so important to nullify standard infantry and most artillery, AT than pens anything short of a Ferdinand, FP2+ counteracts German AFVs with 2+ Remount ratings, and the assault performance will be great.
For a point of reference, consider that 4 Panzer IVs with FA6/SA3/TA1/AT11/FP3 are the same price as 3 IS-2s with FA10/SA8/TA2/AT14/FP2. Panzer IVs have ROF and Careful, but that doesn't matter when you can't penetrate the opponent's armor and their gun auto-pens your FA at long range!
Lots of other cool stuff. RPG-6 command card is boss. And you can get Tiger or Panthers cheap with spearhead - you can put them in formation for Hero Motor dudes as a nice bonus!

I've read three reviews so far which all leaned towards the opinion that "the book was needed but they went too far". Images of Soviet armies being banned from tournaments once again popped up. But after seeing this video, I don't understand what they were complaining about. The Soviets now have very diverse lists and options, but it'll always be the player that makes them successful.

Not sure about going to far, but with the book just out I think it's a little early to call. I mean gut feeling is these guys can be really good but OP? I don't see it yet.

Nice! I just ordered my first Russians, a pair of the older starter boxes (the ones with T-34s, not KV-1s). Do you know if the new T-34/85 kits have the -76 early and late turrets along with the -85 turrets?

A really comprehensive book, lots of options for the Soviets, don't seem so one directional anymore.

I kind of miss the history / fluff info that the big FoW v3 series books tended to have.
This is just lists and units.

Great run through Jon. I was surprised at the sheer amount of gear in the book; there really are lots of plausibly "good" options for Soviet players now
