The once-popular beaches of Odesa, Ukraine’s resort town, are now covered in mines and off limits to visitors. In the first weeks of Russia’s invasion, the Ukrainian army planted mines to combat an amphibious assault. The closure of the beaches is another hit to Odesa’s hopes for a rebound in tourism.

Not matter how many times we clear it, out of nowhere there will be one lying at the beach waiting for us to remove. Those sea mines were from WW2 some Japanese and some British. I remember the first reported case was in the the 70s. It was there for weeks and everybody thought it was a buoy till a Sgt went on a picnic with his family and saw it.
