Edit: Vincent Castiglia is the artist I was thinking of, his stuff is cool.
Once it dries, it doesn't have that rot smell. Just... Kind of a musty metal/rust. And even then you have to be close. The key is thin layers and let them fully dry before you add another. That way, it doesn't stay moist long enough to putrefy.
Makes a neat wood stain.

so i like to think they are royally pissed if the method that was used to summon them was the sacrifice of a virgin soul instead of goats blood, so i like to think upon being summoned an seeing an innocent soul on the alter they become royally pissed an wreak hell onto the cultists who summoned them. before waiting for an angel to arrive an collect the innocent soul that was killed in order to summon them.
and those demons are then tasked to protect the soul in it's next life as punishment which they gladly accept so every guardian angel that someone has is just a demon that was made to keep them safe because of what happened in their past lives which is why people can't remember how they died in a past life.
because they were made to forget that part of their life in order to save them from the nightmare which is why people like that will have dreams where they are falling or walking in an endless field of roses or to have a dream of a faceless figure whom they feel as though they met but never seen before waking up confused yet happy.

Edit: Modern culture has done a very good job of making demons and devils seem far less dangerous and malicious than they truly are in myths and legends. They don’t like virgin sacrifices because it sounds evil, they like virgin sacrifices because the breaking, torturing, and defilement of a, supposedly, pure/innocent soul is one of their favorite past times.
