It's hard to put into words what Laibach means to me.
But I'll try, and I hope you, the reader, are with me.
Friends and I saw Laibach at gigs in the UK in 1985, chatted to them after the gigs, and saw them in a similar light as other contemporary post-punk groups, such as Sonic Youth, Psychic TV, Coil and Foetus, that we also met post-gig in many cases, and had a good natter.
We had also visited Slovenia in the mid-80s.
I left the UK in the early 90s.
I've been almost 30 years out of the music scene.
Laibach's evolution has been amazing, however. Their stance, their videos, confound and mesmerise.
"The Whistleblowers" is an incredible track.
I have to see Laibach again, before I die.
Their music, themes, and nuanced outlook is a light for me, and hopefully others. Rock on!
I hope you get to see them. I saw them in Romania in 2017 during their Also Sprach Zarathustra era. It was amazing, I can't even describe the abundance of emotions that have engulfed me, I lack the vocabulary for that. I can only say that it was sublime and I found myself crying without even noticing, that's how hypnotized I was by their music.

You've expressed that beautifully and truthfully, for my experience of Laibach, also since 1985. I left Germany for Australia - and was able to see them in 2019 at the Fomo festival, ...4 times, as well as talk to Ivan Novak.
I reject the concept of 'fandom', usually, but the one exception I make is for Laibach.
These guys are my benchmark for truly great art in all its facets.
There is hope in the songs of Laibach. Freedom, brotherhood, no egoism, no totalitarism. I like their poetic hymns.

I don't think this is the sound of hope. I think it's the sound of the alarm. Wake up, Europe is turning nationalistic again. And, look around, they were right. That's why it's called whistleblowers. Yeah, in the end there might be hope. The flower. But until then it's Europe turning nazi and kids going through training to be tough and be able to blow up stuff (pots).

Laibach's music is some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard.
This has to be one of the most creative videos I've ever seen.
This video is truly a masterpiece. The feel fresh, new and ground breaking and yet it still retains a familiar Liabach Ideology. This is a new and exciting facet to Liabach. Liabach needs a country to themselves.

I personally don't find their approach to be as original as Laibach's. Laibach are more of a moving target in regards to what they put out. Rammstein is generally quite heavier.

When Laibach released spectre, they were few years ahead of everyone. The whole album is amazing, layered masterpiece and analysis about modern times and issues. Everything is still just as relevant to what's happening now, as it was in 2014.

Love this catchy tune. When i was a kid... Dated a girl who loved this band. Early 1993+- and have fond memories of hearing there early stuff. I wish i could still get hold of... So on a wim placed a order for any vinyl out there of them hoping my supplier could find me the old stuff i knew... Anyway 3 months later here on the tip of africa Capetown, I receive two vinyl, didnt even know these guys where still going! so "Specter" was one of them. I cant stop listening.
It is good to know that Laibach is a band for all time, for all generations, passing the torch. Thank you for the strength.

If you are serious, you do not quiet get the point of Laibachs song. They want to show that popmusic is just like propaganda. With life is life Opus Dei, a cover of the very famous austrian song life is life from Opus, they showed that the song gets a whole new meaning, when played on traditional instruments. So presenting their country with one of their songs would just be completely against their conviction.

I only recently found out about Laibach, and as a rammstein-loving *Croat* I never knew there was such a great band this close to my country. I just love this song, Opus Dei, and Geburt Einer Nation. I love Laibach and great support!!
Early in Rammstein's career they were called Laibach-copycats, and there's more than a little merit to it.
Be sure to check out the Laibach albums Nova Akropola, Kapital and Volk. Those are their best IMHO.

Well obviously nobody was tearing down schools after the fall of the Soviet bloc. the remnants of the past era are no being repainted and refurbished.
+Radi0he4d1 It was just repainted, windows were changed to modern ones and walls were coated with styrofoam, thats all, but architects who refurbish them, do it in proper way, preserving original architetonic style. Noone is going to destruct buildings, they will stand for 300 years, they are made of solid bricks, and most of them has atomic shelters in basements.
Not really. You are talking about blue prints but as the matter of fact, most of the Soviet Era schools in my country (Poland) are at best in acceptable condition from the engineering point of view. If you tear down plaster from walls you'll see low quality bricks, very low quality concrete mixed with boulders and rocks in weak proportions (ie: 2:2:1 instead of 3:1:1). Central heating, if communist era built got huge heat lost, pipes and drainage is mostly for total exchange and basements are usually wet and without proper air circulation.
It will be miracle if maintained buildings will survive another 50-80 years and in many cases, it's simply impossible for those to not fall in the next 100-150 years.
