    Thank you for this video. I am 28 and am a certified pre-Primary Montessori school teacher... But I want to go back to school for Social Work and through that, working with youth.
    One of the parents of a kindergarten child in my class is a Social Worker for an elementary school and when we got to talking about what she does and my yearning to go into social work, I went online to look up experiences of people in the field.
    This video is enlightening and while part of me feels like I am too old to go to college for a degree, my boss just told me her sister is a social worker... and got her degree when she was 50!
    You're never too old to want to make a positive difference in the world! ❤

    I just subscribed! I am 47 and changing careers. I am interested in school social work because I like all the aspects of helping kids but my main interest is to stop bullying. I was bullied all through school and no matter what others think, it sticks with you your entire life. I want to help change that.

      Hi Jodi! I'm glad to hear that you are perusing your passion. Bullying has certainly become a problem in schools and beyond, especially with cyber bullying on the rise.

    You're doing great work! That bit about a student with no shoes really got to me. It's so fortunate that there are people out there willing to help out others in need. I really struggled in high school with depression and would have benefited tremendously from a school psychologist or a social worker. My school didn't have those back when I was a student but I recently found out that they now do have a school psychologist and many students with mental health problems are getting the help they need. But I think there are only 2 psychologist in the entire school district so here's to hoping each school getting its own psychologist/social worker on site to help students! Also hoping to become one of those social worker haha

    • @SocialWorkScrapbook
      @SocialWorkScrapbook  Před 5 lety +2

      It is unfortunate that social workers are spread thinly throughout school districts. School psychologist are even more scarce. The mental health and resources are needed -- cant wait till you are out here as well -- making a difference for students in need!

Anyway, I do want to ask however, do you typically get a decent lunch break, or little breaks at all throughout the day, or would you say you’re non-stop from 7:30-4:30? Thanks again!
