HealthWise: Is gallbladder removal safe?

  • Gallstones are pebble-like collections of cholesterol and other substances that form in the gallbladder and cause chronic inflammation and pain. At least 10 million people in India develop gallstones every year, yet misconceptions about the disease persist. Many people believe no treatment is needed for gallstones that are small or are not causing pain. They’re wrong. Gallstones are the most common risk factor for cancer of the gallbladder. A safe 30-minutes laparoscopic procedure for the removal of the gallbladder removal gets patients back on their feet within a couple of hours after surgery. Dr Pradeep Chowbey, chairman of the Max Institute of Laparoscopic, Endoscopic and Bariatric Surgery, separates the myths from the facts.

@@sophiasaleh1705 I did look into it and consulted my Doctor. I have had surgery and it went really well, now eating anything with no problems except still have to take it easy with lifting heavy things. Apparently it takes some months before your body fully adjusts. Im afraid to say the Gallstones wont go away on their own unless they are ejected out of the Gallbladder like mine, but your then in danger of the stones getting stuck in the Pancreas duct causing Pancreatitis (which I had) which can lead to sepsis that can be fatal. If you have Gallstones. your Gallbladder is not working properly and overtime will only get worse causing you more problems. I can only say for me surgery was the only option and way forward, and it was very, very safe with me spending only a night in hospital. Im afraid I dont subscribe to alternative medicine for this I think surgery is the only option and the better one. czcams.com/video/HXontLUGbJU/video.html

      I had a gallstone operation 2years ago.But I still have occasional pain that I can't bear.I dont know if I have gallstones.
Except for a few days,I have unbearable pain on the right side of my abdomen, the pain goes away after a long time of taking painkillers. I'm very worried about this.

If only gall stones are removed there are many chances that stones will be developed again in the near future. That's why in many cases Doctor's advise to remove the entire gall bladder. My father had a surgery just couple of hours back to remove gallbladder, please pray for his speedy recovery
