The Stylistics are a Philadelphia soul group that achieved its greatest chart success in the 1970s. They formed in 1968, consisting of singers Russell Thompkins Jr., Herb Murrell, Airrion Love, James Smith, and James Dunn.
This is one of the best songs of all time
This song should never end
This song tells you the world coming to the end
Could this be the end.... the times we are living... Alhumduallah
I like
many of the Stylistics hits. Good harmonies doesnt necessary mean it's the end of a relationship.
When lyrics, harmony,an instruments melt together ....the outcome is magic. When the world is reminded of LOVE...WE HAVE NO NEED FOR ANYHING MORE.
Classic Russell Thompkins Jr. heavenly vocals
Russell Thompkins Golden voice. His voice was so amazing. Thom Bell saw a big future in him...and him alone! He actually wanted Russ to leave the guys or get new singers but Russell was determined to stay faithful to the 4 guys...Arion, James D, James S and Herb. I actually love this arrangement and song. Russell hits those high runs like it's nothing new for him. What a singer. And he still is at age 71 with his guest singing with famous groups and with his new Stylistics. You go Russell ! 🎶🌟🎶
Lush...the strings ...very deep orchestration by the great tom bell .....this song was slept on ......
Yesssss!!!! I'm a young buck going back and listening to their music. This was definitely a stand out to me
Beautiful ❤️
Absolutely agree, this and Love Come Easy was their masterpieces, to me!
One of the coldest songs you'll ever hear. Thom Bell showed out on this one. Love how Russell's voice walks through the song
Indeed it's very dark and eeriely presient for the time of now! I think of end times when I here this and it makes me want to pray. 🙏 This song could also apply to walking alone (and lonely) at night, wondering if ones life was prematurely drawing to a close in any eerily quite and decayed town.
This was written by Bruce Hawes, Charlie Simmons and.Joseph Jefferson.. Thom Bell was arranger- played keyboard and sang on backup along with Hawes, Gamble, and other MFSB studio singers and musicians. Haunting song and Russell kills it with his golden 4 octave voice. Wow! 🎶💫🌟🎶
Thom produced this,
but didn’t write it.
It was written by
Joseph B.Jefferson,
Bruce Hawes,
and Charles Simmons.
Russell sang the lead,
and the background vocals were by
Thom,Kenny Gamble,
Bunny Sigler,
Carl Helm,
Phil Hurtt,
Linda Creed,Barbara Ingram,
Carla Benson,and
Evette Benton.
Thom didn’t liked the rest of the
group’s voices,
and only wanted to work with
Russell because he believed in his falsetto voice.
As a result,
the group didn’t sing on the three albums he produced.
Thom Bell helped on music but Hawes wrote song . With his partner. Beautiful song. Should have been single. Scroll down and you will find both Thom Bell and Hawes comment on this...

Thom Bell was the KING of smOOth! With Linda Creed, PERFECT combination! Motown was King until THE PHILLY SOUND took-it to a WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL!Motown NEVER had beautiful music like this, NEVER!!🎶
I wouldn't go so far John to say that about Motown but for me it was Philly all the way! Bless up!
@@ralstonbaker2970 Actually, I would agree(I spoke too fast)
Russell Thompkins jr singing every song on first 3 albums and 12 of 14 top hit singles. Lead singer over 30 years. Left at end of 1999. Started his own group Russell Thompkins Jr and New Stylistics. Still singing.
You go Russ Raymond and Jonathon. Kenny and band.
Such a smooth song!
Tom Bell was a master at writing solo love classic songs, truly one of the greatest writers of all time.
And The stylistics is one of the greatest singing groups of all time. So smooth! 💖
This holiday season I am enjoying listening to my team of Thom Bell, Linda Creed, Jospeh Jefferson, Charles Simmons, Barbara Ingram, Carla Benson, Evette Benton, Carl Helm, and me, #TSOP Composer / Singer
R.I.P. Bruce Hawes.
With lead singer/ soloist of Stylistics. Russell Thompkins Jr of course with his amazing voice. 3:20
Unbelievable voice Russell. Falsetto and tone perfect
🎶💫🎶
So excited to read a comment by THEE Bruce Hawes. Honored!
Wish I could thank you for this song!
Rest in Heaven Bruce! 🎶⚘🎶
Unsung background singers FOR REAL!👏❤
Those of you who remember what it was to get your favorite beverage, then get your girl up on the floor to Slow Drag ♡♡ to this one.
Them background ladies need BIG credit!(they put a 🎶sweet tune🎶 to EVERYTHING that Thom Bell did!(Linda Creed🥰 wrote, BUT give her credit for backgrounds TOO)❤
🎶You CANNOT beat these guys for "smooth" & polish!❤
Very beautiful background from Bell and Creed (among other's). This seems a very spooky and almost (prophetic?) and I always wondered what the hell this song was about! Seems very sad surrealistic end times vibe to it. This song honestly gives me shivers!
Barbara Ingram,
Carla Benson,
and
Evette Benton also known as
“The Sigma Sweethearts”
are the other women singing background on this along with
Linda Creed,
Thom Bell,
and his other friends.
Thom used the Sigma Sweethearts for most of his recordings to sing extra background vocals when
the male vocal groups sang too low.
Thom discovered them back in
1970.
Gamble & Huff used them as well.
TOP FLIGHT UNSUNG LADIES OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY!(there are none better ANYWHERE)-Respect always to these ladies!👏❤
❤❤the message is in the music the best song of all time
Love this song 🎵
R. I. P Dad and my beautiful uncle. I love you ❤️
Such a "haunting" melody to be so beautiful!❤
That’s the Stylistics ❤ Beautiful, sad and depressing all at same time

Vanilla beats
Very underated song which is fitting with today's turbulent times sweet honey to the ears The Stylistics
One of thom Bell best.song
@@timgreene8403 only the voice of Russell Thompkins Jr lead singer of Stylistics. The other 4 steppers did not sing on most of hit recordings first few years. Just Russell and MFSB.
Nyce best good vocals. Russell didn’t look his voice...
This was Just Russel with No other Stylistics, with background vocals by Thom Bell, Linda Creed and some hired background singers. Other actual Stylistics apart From Thompkins only sang on a few of the studio recorded songs from the Bell/Creed years, though they did sing live on stage and latter in studio durring the Hugo & Luigi albums.
I always though this was a very spooky song (I wondered what it meant?) and it now seems almost prophetic! Very sad and eerie song.
@@jKLa Yes, I saw Russel T.in an interview and he said the same thing. that music industry is a tough one. Shocked that he Bell/Creed team didn't want the entire Stylistics. Tough business.
@@listen2music811 many said they couldn't sing good, not smooth enough. It's true the actual full group that you can easily find singing live on old video or on the Hugo & Luigi albums mostly didn't sound super smooth like most the Bell/Creed songs but they could certainly sing! Arrion Love sure could sing though (he sang co-lead on a couple Bell-Creed songs) and had (still has) an incredible beautiful voice!
@@jKLa
