That kicker didn't lose the game. Alabama defense gave up 48 points. That's bad. Very bad.
I think folks underestimated Auburn due to previous losses. The referee calls seemed a little home town slant, which is maybe why Sabin was so mad. Comment about Bama defense is right on- you can’t give up 48 points and expect to beat most teams. No Jalen, no Tua- the guy did his best but too many bad throws.
And the bama offense gave up 14 pts in int’s

Interceptions are fair and square, as are missed field goals. Free field goals when the half is clearly over and you have no timeouts?? Not so much. Say what you want, but those three points are the difference in the outcome - an outcome caused by the referees, not the players.

Especially because it was the holder's fault. Place holders are supposed to angle the ball towards their body to prevent the ball from hooking, but he held it straight up.

Yung_Baller We’ve had bad kickers for ten years! The problem is our kickers are under coached. Our kickers are very good, and the coaching staff ruins them at Bama. They receive training from professionals in the summer, and during the season, they have to figure it out on their own. Each team is allowed 10 assistance only. That’s why our kickers suck. The coaches neglect our kickers. It’s the coaches fault, not the kickers. You’re right! I stand corrected.

I remember being at this game with ROTC sitting right next to the goal post. That metallic clang only lasted a few seconds, but I remember everyone going quiet and looking around at each other to verify if that really just happened. I love college football

It wasn't necessarily the kicker's fault. The holder had the ball lean to the left when he placed it on the ground. The kicker kicked it as if he thought the ball was supposed to lean towards the right that's why he hit it more on the right side causing the ball to travel towards the kicker's left side. If the holder had leaned the ball to the right the kick would have gone straight. However, based on the holder leaning the ball to the left, the kicker would have had to place his plant foot slightly to the left away from the ball so that his kicking foot would make contact with the center of the ball. Then it would go straight. Seemed like a miscommunication between kicker and holder. Hope I explained this clearly. If not, I can demonstrate it.
