Where do yall get the hatches from??
What kind of paint to use on an old deck to stop fiberglass itching. I started working on my boat and I am getting ate up.
Paint is metallic candy apple red. And fading !
Always making Tuesday evening awesome!👊 Always learning something new, thank you for sharing your hard work.
Awesome! Thank you! We'll continue to aim to help out!
I’ll give you a hole saw trick. Your hole saw arbor will hold 2 hole saw cups. Making your second hole saw cup the pilot bit. No more screwing wood on for the pilot bit.
For example taking a 2” hole to 3”
Take your arbor drill bit thread on your 3” cup then thread on your 2” cup. Now the 2” cup is your pilot bit
Man getting ready to start my first old boat restoration an old silverside with a 130 Volvo inboard I got it given to me by my father in-law I’m pretty skilled at many things restored cars homes and work with plastics a lot but your video is very informative and get viewing thanks for all the info you guys seem very organized and good at what you do
so... how's the project going? lol
Look forward to these videos every Tues. Thanks for taking the time to put them together. Hope you all survived the hurricane ok.
Awesome! Thank you for all of your support :) we didn't see much from the Hurricane, it stayed pretty far from the keys :)
definitely want to see more restorations like this!
Love hydraulic steering when I was in Florida that salt water wrecked my push pull steering. And any bilge pump wiring totally rotted away automotive wire I used.
That trick is called "Nesting". Usually it's done using two hole saws instead the wood filler. You place the smaller size hole saw on the front of the larger hole saw's pilot bit. You have to have a long pilot bit, but that is something easily done.
Still cleaning up from Dorian here in eastern NC, but I'll always make time for Tech's Tuesdays! Another great video full of useful information.... Thank you!
How bad was it? Did you see any damage, or just trees and landscaping pick up? Thank you!
@@BornAgainBoating We've been through 10+ hurricanes since the early 1990's. In comparison of some of themo, this was minor and mild for us, especially because we had only 1.5 feet of flood waters. When we get 3+, the water gets in the house. We were on the weak/west side of the storm, and the winds quickly shifted to the NW which blew the flood waters back into the Pamlico Sound. Because of this, our favorite water-destination, Ocracoke Island got their worst in recent memory..... For us, this time just downed trees and debris.....
Little People would make great marine technicians. I'm serious, I had a SeaRay Sundancer and it was so hard to do anything in the engine compartment. Same thing for airplanes, etc. Turn a perceived negative into a positive.
Terrific video. very informative, learned a lot. Brings back good memories. Thanks a lot.
Glad it was helpful!
Looking just like my project, so I greatfully appreciate the video!
This is a top notch channel, keep up the good work. Side note: Awesome that y’all are using resources you have to help others.
Thank you!
funny i see alot of rotten wood you didn't remove. i viewed that while you were painting the transom. a piece that should've been solid wasnt. and was very clear it's a board that was not replaced.
Amazing job beautiful work thanks for posting
Your videos are the best! 👍🏼👍🏼
I think those pursuits are some of the prettiest looking boats
Enjoyed the video but......
1 tip for anyone else doing marine wiring.
USE DRIP LOOPS IN YOUR LOOM/WIRE RUNS
Quick Google should show you but it'll save a ton of potential problems in future (back of switches getting wet etc)
Just found your channel. Im moving to Florida next year to attend uti in Orlando to become a marine mechanic. Watching your videos just makes me more excited to go ! Lol
Best of luck!
Hey man I’m going to that same school… my start date is September 7th… when are you planning on attending?
Fantastic. I love seeing older boats restored. I’ve never used Starboard before. Looks to be strong but not really heavy. Is that correct?
I know I am a bit late to the party, but how about "adjustable hole expander" ?
I love to see stuff get resurrected, people are just to darn quick to through stuff out these days. Great work.
love this boat as a resto project!
Pursuit is a very fine boat.
Talented bunch of guys!
Great video thank you for sharing
I was hoping to hear more about the addition of the bracket to the hull. I would like to to that to an Aluminum Starcraft islander but don't know where or what bracket to use.
I spent all day last year changing my hydraulic steering seals... I had to use a puller to get the little arm things on the side off... then I watch you knock them off with an extra long air hammer in 5 seconds!!
Lol yeah, they can take a long time without that air hammer lol that took about a half hour to get that changed out lol ;) that extension is a life saver!
Born Again Boating ... I have an air hammer now, I bought it a few months ago for one job I had... now I use it all the time. Back then all I had available was a pulley puller.
Awesome! Hey, you gotta use what you got when you need to lol
Great video as always keep it up 👍👍
Thank you!
How cute that Pursuit
I love theses kinds of videos I never new of your channel but I subbed with the bell on keep making theses awesome videos
Thank you! Got a new one coming out next Tuesday and every Tuesday after that :)
Okay great! Looking forward for those vids
Nice job. That transom. Came out 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you! It's a sweet boat now, for those that like cuddy's :) I'm more of a center console kind of boater lol
@@BornAgainBoating 100%%% C/C LOVE THE SPACE. CABIN TO THROW THE JUNK AND GRAB THAT SPECIAL, UNIQUE SMELL. 😁😂🤣🐟🎣
Double cut glory hole adaptive saw device. Harbor freight coupon friendly too
Lol Harbor freight! Guaranteed to work at least once ;)
You make it seem so easy
The wood piece you use on the hole saw is called a pilot hole guide.
The pilot guides I use are metal because I work with aluminum and mild steel.
With a transom replacement as well
Nice boat. Y'all done a good job fixing her
Thank you!
Thank you
Great Video !
Loved this video
thank you!
Great project!
This dude never takes the shades off
Like always very good work if i move down to Florida i wood like to work with you best Tim
Nicely done however always sand with 100 grit previously painted bottoms!
G FLEX IS MEANT for hard plastic I use it on paddle boards I use it on air line ends. On wood ordinary epoxy is ok for sealing wood
Great video!
Thanks for the visit
So this isn’t an I/o conversion, it’s a previous conversion tidy up.
I enjoy the longer videos
Awesome! We'll try and keep them this long :)
I would love to buy one of your rebuilds 😁👍
Can't beat the aesthetic of an inboard. but outboards are so much more convenient.
Outboards are loud. As hell. I will take an inboard any day.
Flat black Valspar paint from Lowes works great....lol
Still addicted to watching what I do every day. Keep it up! Coming back to Florida soon. New boat shop new adventures!
Awesome! Where abouts in Florida?
@@BornAgainBoating Not sure yet. Grew up and cut my teeth in Pompano Beach. Where ever makes sense with all factors involved.
Hey Aaron enjoyed this full vid frm start to completion .....was that white marine paint or flow coat you used good work mate
Hey, Thank you! It was just marine paint I guess you would say, it's made by Interlux and is called bilge kote, it's basically a cheaper paint that is used for coating inside of compartments and places that aren't topside and visible all the time :) Great stuff, easy to work with and lays out pretty nicely!
@@BornAgainBoating Yeah i know the stuff just couldnt read it on the tin thanks for that
Um cant put trilux on metal parts without the primer. You need 5x coats of primocon before putting ablative like trilux
Nice boat!
I know this is a pretty old summary, but is/do you have a detailed video on just how to reinforce the transom to the boat/stringers/??? to allow using the outboard/mount? That's got to take a lot of stress, I would imagine, and an I/O wouldn't necessarily have that strength. Or would it? Thanks.
Keren.... senang menonton video anda.... sukses yaaa
Just stack hole saws to get the same cut
I learn a lot from this channel but I really have a hard time with the helium pop soundtrack.
Thanks folks. Two things: (1) I’d have liked to see the video conclude with a view of it OM the water at speed. (2) why did you leave the Starboard label showing? Why not paint it up nice to show the finished product? Just sayin’.
Pretty cool!!!!! New suscriber!!!!!
Welcome!!
Like always great video!
One question, do you paint or glass the starboard panel at the back?
Thank you! No, I just haven't peeled off the plastic cover yet lol I was waiting until I was completely down, but to be honest, I still haven't peeled it off lol
Born Again Boating
Ah no worries, that makes sense the
I haven’t used it before but am planning on getting some.
Keep up the good work mate 👍🏻
Cool! Yeah, it's super easy to work with! Depending on where you live, you can get it from anywhere, home depot, most hardware stores in Florida, or you can even buy it and have it shipped to you from Boat Outfitters! www.boatoutfitters.com/
Any video on how to wire outboard engines to helm
Hello Born Again Boating, when painting the bottom how do you paint spots on the hull where the supports are located?
Hello! We just pick the boat up and move it forward about a foot and hit those pad spots :)
Hard working guys
Those little plastic rivets that hold the rail cushions in.
Where can I purchase those?
Who wants to help a first responder with a glass and gelcoat repair in central FL?
Good job guys
Thank you!
Hey Born Again Boating, coming back to this vid with a question... should I use thick “battery wire” to run from a battery to my fuse box or should I use “thinner” wire like 8 gauge(depending on my footage travel)
Good video!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Quick question, what do you do with the boats after you're done..sell them, have you every raffled one off or ????
Usually we'll use them for a few months or so while doing another boat. Then sell it and use the most recently finished boat :) Nope never thought about raffling one lol that's not a bad idea!
Grease is good I use anti seize
I got a 1976 wellcraft v20 steplift i/o rebuilt motor an out drive need help restoring it. HELP, got in way over my head
I need to seal a Transom access cover containing a quick opening hatch on a 23' Cobia. It should rarely need to be removed since the cover actually contains an easy plastic hinged access cover to get at the sump and live well pumps. I am hesitant to seal it with 4200 because it will be a real pain if I ever need the extra access in the future. Since this is an often wet area underway do you think a gasket would work? Something like an EPDM material (Trimlok) under the flange where the perimeter screws are what I was thinking. Or should I just go with 4200 and forget it forever?
No worries! You don't need to use the 4200, that is a little much, honestly, I wouldn't go with the gasket, just get a tube of Boatlife Life Seal, or Elastomeric and seal it up with that. You can get either from Amazon: amzn.to/2A9bbik and amzn.to/2A4sDVn the elastomeric is harder to clean up, just a warning ;)
no sealant will stick to starboard
You Fellars need to discover Kroil penetrant. Even loosens salt crusted bolts and parts.
Paradise 3/4 way down in the keys must be your home address doesn't look commercial
great job
Hi friend, this is a very nice boat. And what its length and how much its price, I would like to know that thank you bro.
All through hull fittings are double clamped ...
Question: when doing an inboard to outboard conversion how do you determine how much hp and or number of outboards
Length and weight of the boat :) plus what the hp of the inboard was. I tend to try and overpower any of my boats though lol :)
@@BornAgainBoating is the lenght included with a engine floatation bracket?
Great job
Thank you!
They say you can mix cayenne pepper with your paint too, if you don’t wanna use legit bottom paint
I've heard of that too, seems to be fine for a few months lol
Why? What’s the advantage?
Great to see a professional at work 👍🏼
Thank you!
Born Again Boating what brand shrink connectors are thoes? I can't seem To find a good brand. Where you get yours?
Those are seachoice, we get them from Land-n-Sea. The anchor ones aren't that bad either, the Seachoice are just a little cheaper :) You can find them on Amazon too: amzn.to/2LOInkS
@@BornAgainBoating Thank you for the link👍
What about those cushions
Why'd you leave the starboard logo paper on the transom panel? That looks mickey mouse!
plz is it possible to make a roof on small boats like this one that you can sit on it

Variable Hole Spreader
hole-no.......we drilled out the helm mount using a Hole-no.
Hole saw wood cut out trick? How about calling it "the hole over inlet"
Love your videos man keep it up
Thank you! Will do!
How do I get one of those bimini tops sir. I have a 1988 17' Mirage Magna 170 Cuddy. All the ones I see, do not attach to the windows. I have the buttons already in place. I am looking so hard for one for an affordable price. God bless
I would so pay to see someone sitting on that porta potty where it is
How about a video showing what the 300hpdi can do moving this heavy weight pursuit?
It pushes it really well! Sorry is didnt have time to get all the footage into the video :/
@@BornAgainBoating Nice! Dont be sorry, when the weather is friendlier just compile some clips of the how is sits with added weight, shot out of the hole, top speed & overall impressios. Im sure youll get to it one of these days but until then love the project! & still love 2-stroke over 4 stroke!
All that great work, but you neglected the Yamaha cowl paint! A little sandpaper, and some Yamaha Blue spray paint please.
Yeah, that cowl is pretty neglected :) It might get a little love before the new owner takes it :) we've got a few half cans of the Yamaha paint in the shop!
Curious if I made a mistake.. I had my Yamaha 115 V4 rebuilt and drained all of the old gas out of my boat and after putting new gas in, I replaced the fuel filter and used a vacuum pump to suck fuel through the filter. Is that okay?
Just to prime up the system, should be alright, next time just prefill the water separator and use the primer bulb :) save ya some time
How bad is it to convert and I/O to an outboard . I found a nice older boat but it’s an I/O.....I’d rather have a four stroke Yamaha for for fuel efficiency and they are pretty quiet .
What are some good motor brackets and where do I get them.
